dallas27 7 Report post Posted October 3, 2005 (edited) There are still shots of this play on the net out there and it's tough to call. You can see the ball moving into his chest untill the fourth one, which he is out bounds, so I guess it all comes down to your definition of control. It's not like he is bobbling the ball or anything so you could argue that he did have control the whole catch but on the other hand if the ball doesn't stop moving into his chest untill he is out bounds it isn't. I'm surprised nobody mentioned this but they didn't waste much time reversing that call, the ref only looked at the play for a minute, and he was ready. BlueMonk 102 Report post Posted October 3, 2005 I didn't see the kind of evidence on that replay that overturns the call made on the field. But regardless, the offense looks awful. They wasted a really good effort by the defense. The offensive line finally showed up, but the backs and receivers looked awful. The receivers were flat out quitting on some of their routes, and when they had a chance at a catch, they just dropped the football. Harrington throwing it behind them didn't help. It's always something. Good pass, dropped ball. Bad but catchable, dropped ball. Great catch, ball is out of bounds.
Matt 1,049 Report post Posted October 3, 2005 FYI: He took almost the full two minutes allowed for the review (1:53), so it wasn't an "easy" call to make. I agree 100% with what Peter King says in his MMQB column: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2005/writ...eek4/index.html It was a bulls**t reversal.

He stated they just "wanted to mix things up." You have a back that is capable of being one ot the best and you don't play him? I was ready for KJ to bust out considering how pumped up he got after he destroyed that db and got the td. I guess Mooch thought otherwise. *edit* As for Harrington throwing it behind them and all over the place, it would probably help if he didn't throw off his back freaking foot 80% of the time. darko99 0 Report post Posted October 3, 2005 Between the Lions performance 2 weeks ago and yesterday, I don't know if I blame Harrnington or Mooch more. They are terrible.
Matt 1,049 Report post Posted October 3, 2005 I used to be a staunch Joey supporter, but after the first three games, that's long gone. It's time for a change, IMO, but the Lions are in a Catch-22. And I can't stand Mariucci's (like Tollner made a difference?) and Jauron's game-planning. (Though the defense, aside for two big plays, was fantastic yesterday.) (Though the defense, aside for two big plays, was fantastic yesterday.) Mooch is too nice, the Lions need someone that will strike fear into them and beat them down with a belt if they mess up. The defense is underrated, last I checked they were 6th in the league. You can't blame them for the Chicago game, they were on the field 75-80% of the game. He's barely played this year e.g. his 8 carries!!!! Lazy!!?!?! He ran that db right the f over, they went to a shot of him sitting on the bench and he was still hurting. I don't get Mooch and this team....

Matt 1,049 Report post Posted October 5, 2005 dallas -- I agree with the opinion on the defense. For all of the talk they got they started last season strong as well and they've easily been the best part of the Lions so far this season. Even though Mike Williams may turn into a stud (and the reasons the Lions drafted him even more solidified with recent events) it's hard to not wonder what the Lions linebacker corps would look like with Boss at SLB, Lehman in the middle and Derrick Johnson on the weak side... He's been absolutely sick for KC so far this season.
Matt 1,049 Report post Posted October 5, 2005 Can't argue with that article at all, either. I've seen glimpses of it in the past, but it's just not coming together. It's getting close to where it's time to just cut bait and move on.
BlueMonk 102 Report post Posted October 5, 2005 The situation with Harrington really sucks. I agree with Matt, it's at the point where the team really needs to cut the cord. Sad to invest that high pick and all that time in the guy and not have him pan out. The truth is that it's common with high draft pick QBs. It could happen with Leinart next year, you never know. But just once, it would be cool to see the Lions get an actual break at the QB position.

Heaton 1 Report post Posted October 5, 2005 Just watch -- Harrington will move on and thrive under a different system. Just wait. Yup, he'll go to a Tampa Bay type team and be fine, Detroit just isnt the right system for him, Detroit needs a Drew Bledsoe type guy.

I might get yelled at for this but I'd like to see how a mobile qb would fit into Detroits system. Figure in the o-line and I don't think it wouldn't be too horrible to have a qb that can bootleg it and scramble. Michael Vick's brother is supposed to be better and from what I've seen he is. He isn't as mobile as his big brother is but he passes the ball MUCH better. Now I'm not saying waste our first two round draft picks to get him, but if he is available in the 3-5th round I say draft him. Rivers is getting super po'ed over in S.D.... I don't think Joey will jump out of the gates in at a new team but he would certaintly do better than here, him and the wco don't go together.
BlueMonk 102 Report post Posted October 5, 2005 Harrington and Rogers will end up on another team and become the new Manning-Harrison tandem. That's usually how it goes for the Lions, yeah....

Didn't he come from a "West Coast offense" type team - Oregon?? Lion need to dump some crappy management (ie. Millen = useless) if they ever hope to improve.... dallas27 7 Report post Posted October 9, 2005 Another impressive half for Joey Harrington :/ And for the record don't get mad at Pollard for dropping that pass up the middle. Ray Lewis would have took his fukkin' head off and probably out of the game/season.
