e_mcgrath88 0 Report post Posted January 4, 2006 Drafted this kid in the 5th Round, 132nd Overall at this summer’s draft. He's currently leading the first place Medicine Hat Tigers in scoring with 45 points in 40 games. The WHL site has him listed as 6ft 182lbs. He's an 87 birthday, so he has time to grow. It's a little too early to predict anything, but at least this kid is showing some promise. Could be another late round steal. Keep an eye on him.
EstonianWingsFan#1 0 Report post Posted January 4, 2006 Yeah and he is 6th in WHL currently in scoring ? Let me check, sorry 7th right now and doing great. A little more bulk and BOOM. He is a promising player, sort of playmaking type. And 18 PIM in 40 games, it shows he is not the type who takes foolish penalties but more like Datsyuk, without Datsyuk's skills of course. norrisnick 1 Report post Posted January 5, 2006 interesting....more of a leanish power forward? Eh? At 6' 180lbs and 18PIMs in 40 games what draws you to the assumption that he's a power anything? peace
fightfan24 0 Report post Posted January 5, 2006 We may see 6'1 200 when he becomes a man -- best work on the wheels Darren -- you will need them to advance. Remember Dennis Holland!
J-Swift 0 Report post Posted January 6, 2006 Helm was a very nice pick in the fifth round. He is a very hard worker and is well-documented as being gritty by everything I've ever read about him. Darren was unranked going into the draft, but the fact that he's now producing in the WHL has raised his stock dramatically. I hope to see Darren Helm and his enthusiastic attitude on the Wings someday, but realistically, he's probably never going to be anything but a checking-line winger. EstonianWingsFan#1 0 Report post Posted January 9, 2006 (edited) How about his recent 3+1=4 points, +4 rating and first star of the game against Lethbridge. He is currently fourth in WHL scoring. Three points behind goddamn Setoguchi, who was drafted in the first round. Setoguchi is younger though. Still way to go Darren. I just love this guy, for a 5th rounder he certainly has some magic in his hands. Or skates. What the hell I guess both hands and skates. wingsfan27 1 Report post Posted January 9, 2006 i just saw that hes got like 28 goals already, never heard of him before. Its pretty impressive though hes on pace for like a 55 goal season , dont know if hes gonna amount to be anything but for any pick let alone a 5th rounder i belive to get a 50+ goals even in the juniors is still a good thing

EstonianWingsFan#1 0 Report post Posted January 11, 2006 Oh sorry my mistake, funny but somehow I remembered that Helm was born in 1986 not 87. Thanks for the correction. Even better.
