DyingAlive 27 Report post Posted February 22, 2006 I'm not a Lions fan, but I hope they give Orlovsky a good chance in preseason and training camp. He's a good QB

TheGoonSquad0208 1 Report post Posted February 22, 2006 Martz seems optomistic about working with Joey. Martz won't be using the West Coast offense so we'll see what happens.
gowingsgo 3 Report post Posted February 22, 2006 Martz should be able to open up that offense. That could help Joey, could also hurt him, but if Martz is confident in him thats a good start
dallas27 7 Report post Posted February 22, 2006 In no way shape or form is Harrington worth a $4 million bonus and a $4.5 million base salary...
Matt 1,049 Report post Posted February 22, 2006 The Lions have plenty of time to restructure his contract and the team is scheduled to meet with his agent at the combine later on this week. That said... I think the whole "Harrington is our No. 1" is a little force-fed and I'll believe it when I see it. Things might change if Brees is available for a reasonable sum, though his shoulder worries me.
Hockeytown Red Wings 245 Report post Posted February 22, 2006 I'll take Brees at 70% over Harrington at 100%. Well maybe not...hasnt the past 4 years shown people that its just not working? I am excited to finally be getting rid of the West Coast Offense and I wouldnt mind seeing Joey have a chance. But this is the Lions...of course it wont work. mannysBETTER3434 1 Report post Posted February 23, 2006 The Lions have to get rid of Joey if they want to win. Yes, I think Joey could still become a good QB, but even though we have new coaches we still have the same PLAYERS....You know the same players who bashed Joey during the season to the media? The players will play harder for a new QB.
Matt 1,049 Report post Posted February 23, 2006 Brees will be 100%. For the type of injury he had (torn labrum) -- and for a football player -- yeah, he should be fine. (Was it Tommy John surgery or something less?) But you forget one thing: This is the Lions we're talking about. If something bad can happen, it will.

johnogrodnickfanclub 0 Report post Posted February 23, 2006 The Lions have plenty of time to restructure his contract and the team is scheduled to meet with his agent at the combine later on this week. The guys on WDFN reported that Millen stated Harrington's contract would NOT be renegotiated or restructured.
Matt 1,049 Report post Posted February 23, 2006 John, that's not what he said. I heard the Millen interview and listen to WDFN every day and he never said that the team would not look to re-structure. Check the Freep from Feb 22nd for further backup to this. Check the Freep from Feb 22nd for further backup to this. i wasn't part of the interview. i listened to stony and wojo a day or two ago...and stony said millen said he would not look to restructure. they then started fielding calls...and of course, several people thought millen was the dumbest person in the history of the world...and they started talking cap and joey...stony said millen mentioned that there may not be a cap any longer in 2 years... betterREDthandead 58 Report post Posted February 23, 2006 Does this mean we're not getting Matt Schaub? On another note, the Lions also placed the franchise tag on Jeff Backus. Good move. They already need to upgrade the rest of the offensive line - the last thing they need is for the one really bright spot to take off as well.

That doesn't make any sense. MLive's Highlight Reel usually has transcripts of everything, yet I can't find anything pertaining to this interview or recall hearing it during Sports Chat Soup while on my way home from work. So you're saying that he directly contradicted himself from what he's said in every other instance when he's been asked about Harrington restructuring? http://www.freep.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article...349/1048/SPORTS For him to not even explore that doesn't make any sense or it's just because the team is going to cut him in June and pocket the $8.5M in 2006 cap savings that would go toward Brees. Matt 1,049 Report post Posted February 23, 2006 Does this mean we're not getting Matt Schaub? I like Schaub -- and Martz is high on him. If Miami or another club out-bids for Brees I could see the club forfieting their 2nd-rounder (the rumored price for Schaub?) to the Falcons for him and attempt to get Harrington's contract a little more managable. It just doesn't make sense to NOT renegotiate his contract when he's paid more than Manning, McNabb and Brady and he's the 27th-ranked passer in the NFL. Heroes of Hockeytown 694 Report post Posted February 24, 2006 Harrington is our man on the road to nowhere. We need a new guy to come in. I'm liking this Brees and Schaub talk. If it's one thing the Lions can do, it's overpay, so we should have a decent shot at these guys.

Brees would be good to get the Lions on the right track, but he isn't going to get us anywhere in the playoffs. He's a regular season QB.

Matt 1,049 Report post Posted February 24, 2006 Brees would be good to get the Lions on the right track, but he isn't going to get us anywhere in the playoffs. He's a regular season QB. Huh? The guy has played in 1 (!) playoff game so far and it was lost due to his inept kicker. How you can even come close to labeling a guy a "regular season QB" is pretty premature on a colossal scale. Geez.

He's a regular season QB. yeah, wait a minute, what the hell are we concerned about that for? saying the Lions can't use him cause he's no good in the playoffs is like saying Middle Tennessee State couldn't have used Reggie Bush cause he makes dumb plays in bowl games. mannysBETTER3434 1 Report post Posted February 26, 2006 Lions won't get Schaub. The Falcons would be stupid to let him go. Vick runs around way to much, and has the highest chance of getting hurt then most NFL QB's. One backup QB that I do think is available is Volek from Tennessee
