ok, first off, my stats in the above post were wrong (but the other site's back up, yay!) brown led (regular season) in wins, gaa, minutes played and shutouts. jakaitis led in save percentage, and faced more shots.

as some have mentioned:

state beat uno 4-2

u/m beat northern 4-1 :(

lssu beat miami 2-1

notre dame beat alaska 7-1 :crybaby:

i'm hoping for a huge comeback from nmu and alaska (i can dream, right?), a sweep from lssu, and for the state/uno series to go to 3 games (in the odd chance that either the wildcats or nanooks make it to the joe, someone will be tired :sly: ) GO 'CATS! GO NANOOKS!

Jakaitis proved he's better than Brown, stopping 37 of 38 shots, stopping Miami's high powered offense of Davis and Jones.

i don't want to turn this into a brown vs. jakaitis debate because, frankly, i'm not sure who's better, but, how do you figure that this game makes jakaitis better than brown? both only let in one goal. it's true brown only faced 17 shots, but he's been better when facing more shots (like a lot of goalies), which lets him get into a groove (for games with 23 shots or more, he's 16-0-2, for 22 shots or less, he's 10-5-1). also, the score was 7-0 in favor of the irish when he let in that one goal, no doubt he was day dreaming for much of the game (it was an ugly game from a nanook perspective). again, i'm not saying one is better than the other, i'm just wondering what your logic is. obviously, miami is a tougher opponent than alaska, but it's not brown's fault that he had to play them.

hawkupaloogie- It can be hard to tell who is better because they are two of the best goalies in college hockey. Jakaitis has a better Save percentage (Jeff is .933 and Dave is .927 as of now) and to have a higher saves percentage on a eighth place team compared to a first place team proves something to some extent. Have a lower GAA (which Brown has) means squat. You could have a league leading 1.50 GAA, but has a crappy .880 saves pecentage. Also Jakaitis finished higher than Brown in the Perani Cup standings, but that might mean squat as well.

Dissapointed with the Cats losing tonight, but they lost Game One at Ohio State last weekend. Hopefully they'lll repeat this weekend. THey need big performs from Santo, Oliver, and whoever starts goal (Stewart or Zaniboni). I'll try and watch the game on FSN.

YES!!!!!!!! Lakers are going to the Joe in the CCHA Playoffs from the first time since 1996!!! The Seniors have really stepped out, mainly Jakaitis, Rainville, and Campbelll, I'm so proud of these guys.

Jeff Rainville scores both goals and Jeff Jakaitis stops 44 of 45 stops. The Lakers might be the Cinderella team of college hockey right now. I wonder if Miami still makes it to the NCAA tournament? Might be a close call, but I'm sure that is good news for Michigan State seeing Miami swept.

The Lakers will play Notre Dame and Michigan will play Michigan State on Friday. If Jakaitis can play as good as he is right now (he stopped 81 of 83 shots for the weekend), the Lakers can definitely pull an upset.

OUCH! Michigan just killed Northern tonight and Hensick had a hat trick. Sorry, hawkupaloogie about Northern's abrupt end to it's season. I'm sure you hope Santo doesn't leave Northern early to play professional hockey. He is definitely NHL material.

Great job by the Spartans to sweep UNO. Glad to see the old Spartan team is back, not the one that lost to Western and BG. With the sweep, MSU moves into a tie for 8th in the PWR with North Dakota and scUM. Miami dropped to 14, they could be left out of the NCAA's, depending on what else happens.

Nice job by Lake State too.

yeah, it was an ugly game :( i'm sad they lost, but i'm not at all surprised. our team wasn't very strong this year, and honestly, i'm just happy they got past ohio state. santos had a pretty breakaway goal, though :D personally, there's really nothing left at northern for santorelli, he's going to have even less help next year, which probably doesn't won't help his rookie offer. i don't really want him to stay, cuz it'll probably be a dumb move for him, and i don't want him regretting it half way through next year's season. i don't think he'll be in the nhl right away, but he definitely has the potential to get there. he's drafted to nashville, and they just have too much depth. he's also got some maturing to do, he's often too pretty or puckhog-ish (understandable sometimes). i wish him the best in milwaukee, though.

congrats to the lakers, good luck against notre dame.

also, there's something called the Lowe's Senior CLASS Award. it honors seniors for loyalty and commitment to their respective schools, and their dedication towards graduating, while competing in a D1 sport. 10 senior finalists were selected for hockey from all 58 teams, and the final list is:

Matt Anderson (Massachusetts), David Brown (Notre Dame), Billy Devoney (Air Force), Glenn Fisher (Denver), Curtis Fraser (Alaska - Fairbanks), Jeff Jakaitis (Lake Superior State), Michel Leveille (Maine), Kirk MacDonald (Rensselaer), Ryan Mahrle (Western Michigan), and Nate Randuns (St. Cloud State).

there are 4 ccha players: brown, fraser, jakaitis and mahrle. for anyone who would like to vote, go to www.seniorclassaward.com, click on on vote, then hockey, then you can vote for up to three players per day. voting ends march 29th.

i kindly ask that one of your votes be for curtis fraser. he's been my favorite college player since i came to northern, even over all of my beloved wildcats. he's always played with intensity, and a bit of an edge, and is known as the emotional leader of the nanooks. i met him this year, when the nanooks played the wildcats, and he's a great guy. he even came up to me after the saturday game (i met him on friday night) and asked if i enjoyed the game, thanked me for my support (even if i was rooting for the wrong team :P ) and said he hoped to see me in detroit. all in all, he's spiffy.

Michigan will play Michigan State on Friday.
These two just can't get enough of each other. 4 regular season games. GLI finals. CCHA final four. Season series is even at 2-2-1. State holds the edge at the Joe 1-0-1.

Here are the winners of the CCHA awards announced tonight...

PLAYER OF THE YEAR

David Brown, Notre Dame

COACH OF THE YEAR

ROOKIE OF THE YEAR

Mark Letestu, Western Michigan

BEST OFFENSIVE DEFENSEMAN

Jack Johnson, Michigan

BEST DEFENSIVE DEFENSEMAN

Matt Hunwick, Michigan

I watched the awards show on CCHA.com. All my predictions were right except for CCHA player of the year. I was shocked when Hensick didn't win it. Oh well.

I knew the Irish would be too much for tthe Lakers and I was right. Our offense was just too puny for Notre Dame's super tough defense. Even with the Lakers losing, I'm still proud of these guys. I'm sure they will play with pride in tomorrow's consolation game against Michigan State.

Also Jeff Jakaitis broke a 33 year old school record by most saves by a Laker goalie in a season. He has 1,030 which now tops Pat Tims 1,028 saves in 1973-1974. Sure it's not the best record, but it's cool nevertheless because the record was held so long.

Double bummer now seeing State lose to Michigan. I think Hensick got robbed out of CCHA player of the year and tonight he proved it with a 3 point night. Sauer is getting better, but I think his goaltending isn't good enough for Michigan to make a deep run in the NCAA tournament.

Go Irish! I think their super powered defense will really shut down Hensick and company. They will win 3-1 and win their first ever CCHA Playoff championship.

I also predicti LSSU and MSU will tie 1-1 in the consolation game. You can watch it on CCHA.com, which I'll probably do.

I expect MSU to get in the tourny even though they lost. I really think U-M could make a run in the tourny if they had better goaltending. Sauer is good, but hasn't reached his peak yet. He will be average compared to other goalies in the tourny once they get there. Where are you Al Montoya!!

Yeah, Sauer has been way too inconsistent. In parts of Novemeber/December I think he was averaging like 5 or 6 goals allowed per game. Although, he has been much better lately (thank God). I was thrilled to see him have a strong game against state yesterday (especially with the penalty shot save  ) The problem is, if Sauer is bad, it usually means Michigan's defense is worse.... that said, they will probably lose to notre dame today (as much as I hate to admit it) and end up being a strong 2nd seed in the NCAA tournament.

GO BLUE!!!

Sauer has played much better of late, thank God but you always expect one of those weak shots to go in. I guess I am so use to last year. But, to his credit, Sauer isn't the problem ever--it is the defensive turnovers, like you said. If Michigan minimizes those, they can beat the Irish. Their offense is just as strong as ND's defense, so it will be a good game. Hope TJ keeps strengthening his Hobey Baker chances, and Hunwick and Johnson play well as d-man pairs. I can't go tonight, for obvious reasons called St. Pattys Day, but GO BLUE!

Yeah, back in December Michigan was embarassed by notre dame, getting swept. Maybe that's why I have such a bad feeling about today's game. I just have to hope that the reason we lost was because johnson & cogliano we're playing in the world juniors.

Have fun tonight schneids!!!

MSU beat LSSU. That should get the Spartans an at large bid.

The Spartans limped into this tournament. I'm not expecting much. The only positive I see is that BU isn't playing that well either. BC crushed BU 6-2 in the Hockey East semis.

From what I've read about BU, they're a lot like MSU. You never know which team will show up.

I think it's going to come down to simply whichever team wants it more.

You going to the game?

I agree. I know the question wasn't directed at me, but I am going to the game.

I was thinking about it until I saw the ticket prices. $35 each is a little out of my price range. I could go to seven Griffins games for $35.
