Boston Herald: Nabokov for Glen Murray

I cant find the article in the Boston Herald itself, but on CBS Sportsline it says this:

Rumor: Nabokov for Glen Murray

News: The Boston Herald reports there are rumors surrounding the Boston Bruins and the San Jose Sharks. A rumored deal has the Bruins acquiring G Evgeni Nabokov for veteran F Glen Murray.

I dont see this deal going down. The Shark's top six is extremely potent as is, consisting of Bell-Thornton-Cheechoo and Michalek-Marleau-Bernier. The Bruins also have Toivonen who will be a great goalie soon so I dont understand the logic behind them taking on Nabokov's $5 million for what, 3 years?

Sportsline goes on to speculate that if this deal were to go down a third team would be involved.

Not sure that Toivonen will be a _great_ goalie, but didn't they get Rask in the Raycroft deal, and there lies there great future hope.

Not sure Nabokov can salvage the Bruins.. and his contract.. sheesh.

+ Joe's current wingers are better than Murray.

Mark Bell is better than Glen Murray?

Mark Bell's career high in goals is 25, a number Murray has cleared five times.

Mark Bell's career high in points is 48, a number Murray has cleared six times, including a 92 point season.

Mark Bell this season, playing with Joe Thornton, has scored LESS than Glen Murray this season, playing without Joe Thornton.

How is Bell better than Murray?

Maybe Murray can score more goals than Bell, but that doesn't mean he's a more complete player. Bell can skate and check, things that Murray doesn't really bring to the table.

i swear to god the sharks could do better....though the arguement of Murray over Bell or Bell over Murray. Whatever neither is gonna take the others spot. One is LW one is RW you can not be this blind. They bring in Murray he is not going to replace Chechoo. I think this rumor is BS. I think the only thing the Sharks need is perhaps a solid vet on D to teach and guide their blueline hotshots...oh and perhaps another goaltending prospect.. Other than that there in damn good shape.

Murray can play both wings.

If th Sharks made this trade Murray probably plays with Thornton, just because of past success with that combination. Bell would be moved to the third line with Brown and Grier.

Of course, while we're thinking about trading Nabokov for one of Thornton's former winger....

Mike Knuble anyone? Esche is a joke, Niitymaki is still young....A deal centered by Nabokov for Knuble is probably more likely than a Murray deal.

I hate when people bring up career stats when arguing in defense of an old player. This is all that really matters eva - 05/06 Murray 24G 29A 53Pts, Bell 25G 23A 48 pts. Very similar numbers. Now, lets factor in that Bell is a more complete player with the monstrous advantage in the physical play category. So yes, Mark Bell is better than Glen Murray. What Murray did 5 years ago has no bearing on today.

Mark Bell 9 GP, 4-1-5, 11 PIM WITH Thornton.

Glen Murray 9 GP, 4-3-7, 6 PIM, WITHOUT Thornton.

THIS SEASON.

Also...Murray posted over 50 points last year, something Bell has NEVER done, and is not on pace to do this year. Murray, on the other hand, is on pace for another 60+ point season.

Those numbers are still pretty similar, with Murray only having 2 more assists than Bell so far. Besides, San Jose is a new team for Bell and may still be getting used to their system, whereas Murray has been in Boston for more than a few seasons.

New coach, new teammates, new system in Boston.
