SouthernWingsFan 854 Report post Posted February 9, 2007 (edited) Definitely not a time to break out the champagne and celebrate as there's still plenty of hockey left to be played and the postseason, but I have to admit, I'm fairly surprised (and happy) how things have gone so far with the Wings this season. I really wasn't worrying about missing the playoffs completely, even after the horrid start b/c there was still plenty of hockey left to be played, but I definitely didn't expect the Wings to quite possibly win the division if you asked me a few months ago. Up to this point in the season so far..... 76 points so far, one of the best in the league, in spite of not having Yzerman and Shanahan on the ice. Hasek remaining healthy (knock on wood/crosses fingers) and being one of the better goalies in the league this season at a really good bargain The defense not giving the opposition that many chances overall Guys like Hudler and Cleary that have stepped up, guys you might not have expected to mention first in that type of category Markov being a fairly solid stay-at-home defenseman adding some strength to the blueline Not too shabby of a job done so far by the Wings. arnoldbuck 0 Report post Posted February 9, 2007 This season has gone fairly well, only 1 or 2 skids which had some reaching for the panic button. I really didn't like Zets and Dats start to the season but with the way they have been over the past 25ish games, can't complain. Few dissapointments, not some much Lil's, but def in Williams. Angrifying to get a raise and not step up. And my biggest concern is our difficulty with the Ducks and the Sharks ... can we beat them come playoff time. Overall, from what expectations were at the beginning of the season, and even around Christmas, I am very happy with how we are doing right now.

Can't really complain about this season at all.. i guess the only down fault is osgood being hurt soo often and hasek playing more than he should
toby91_ca 620 Report post Posted February 9, 2007 To be honest, as a Wings fan, it has been a long time since I really cared to much about many games they have been able to win during the season. I spend some time watching how some of the players do throughout the year, but consistent with the last several years, this team will be in the playoffs, that's all the matters from the regular season point of view. My focus will be on how they do in the playoffs and how certain players perform.

That's very true, i hope that this is the year that dats FINALLY shows up during playoffs and we can make some noise and not go out the first round
Inultus 12 Report post Posted February 9, 2007 We are in the top 5 in the league. I'm happy.
Mila 0 Report post Posted February 9, 2007 The season seems running well so far. Players like Datsyuk and Zetterberg have to carry the team throughout the playoffs. If Datsyuk and some other guys play the same way like they did last season, we won't be a serious cup contender.
The Enforcer 13 Report post Posted February 9, 2007 The new NHL seems to suit the wings style, as predicted. you still need toughness and snarl in the playoffs, so we need a big tough winger, whether it be Guerin, Tkachuck, or Bertuzzi. Babcock was the right coach to replace easy rider dave, now it's up to Holland to tweak the team for the playoffs. Rest Hasek, or we are done. Osgood is a shadow of his former self, Hasek's all we got. I don't think 1st in the division matters as long as we get in.
