you know what.... somehow I don't buy all this "Wings goinf for Floppa" rumors. it's so blatantly off Holland's style that I can simply not imagine a trade like this happening.

we will get Tkachuk or Guerin but no Floppa. whether Lang goes or not remains to be seen. I don't like this idea. he is blowing at times but he's a playoff performer and I don't want him go now. in the postseason - I'm OK with that

As great as Forsberg is, I can't see giving up Hudler, a prospect, and maybe something else for a "questionable" 33 year old when what the Flyers would receive might be two to three players who would be around for the next fifteen or more years.

My pessimist side says: Go for the Cup now and the heck with the future, and my optimist side says: Take care of the present and the future will take care of itself! Nevertheless, I'm skeptical of this deal.

When the Wings drafted Hudler one or more of the other team representatives said, "You may have gotten the steal of the draft!" And we haven't seen Hudler in the playoffs yet.

All I see from that press conference is that Forsberg said "no comment" in about five hundred words.

And that he wants to stay in Philly. i'm all for getting him but he wont stay he will go right back to philly after this year, this might be some owner and player working as a team to get a few player and get his big name guy back?????

Are you kidding me?! Forsberg is the biggest offensive name available. He is a veteran and a Swede. I can't think of anything more Holland than trading for Forsberg. If anything, Bertuzzi, Tkachuk or Guerin is not Holland's style.

maybe, maybe not.

in the salary cap era Holland tends to be very cautious about signings and not going any (financial) big risk. he prefers to sign cheaper players who get smoothly into the Wings system, rather than follow big names.

Floppa looks rather risky at his price, IMHO. therefore I don't see this trade happening. the other factor in this equation: I also can not recall when was the last time a rumor about big name signing in Detroit came out true. usually, we get to know about anything when the deal is said and done.

as for the other names: I can't see Bertuzzi (same reason as Floppa). but Tkachuk and Guerin are rather likely. Ken had a lot of opportunities to see them playing and they both "fit" Holland's trade deadline preferences, IMHO (older, proven, come at fine price, big but not huge name). and I most certainly like both more than Floppa and sacrificing a lot of our future - and yeah, unlike some people here I don't see Floppa coming for cheap. by far not

The salary cap era has enveloped a whole one and a half seasons.

Also, don't you remember the Lang trade? He was rumored to be on the way here for a while, as I recall. Him and Zhamnov.

He was just being PC. There wasn't any enthusiasm to those words. He's saying he wants to stay in Philly so that if the Flyers can't work out any deal, he hasn't burned any bridges. "I want to stay and be part of the rebuilding process" is the default answer to any question like that. Athletes are always happy right where they are, at least in front of a microphone. To give any other answer is basically to say "I don't like the city, don't like the fans, don't like the team or the organization." At least, that's how the comments will be interpreted.

yeah... and included names as Sammy, Markov, Greg Johnson, Franzenstein

right when Holland could fish much bigger names. he skipped over many

big names even among zillions subsequent rumors seeing him land Jagr,

Kovalchuk, Ovechkin and even Jesus Christ himself :)

EDIT: forgot to mention. all of those stars were supposedly traded for

Void Deveraux or Lillypads, as some of you may recall from LGW.com

I guess so. I don't recall it that good. but, correct me if I'm wrong, there were

more teams mentioned to chase him to the very last moment (like at least Philly

and Rangers too if I have it right).

but anyway... Holland shops much different under salary cap limitations. he's

very cautious and by far not willing to risk. what seems rather clear to me

is that he is aware of the moment and is smartly rebuilding this team but without

going top-to-bottom. and I really, really can't see him shoping future for playoff

rental right now. even more if I recall how steep are some prices now :(

we can dream of Floppa but he's gonna cost the shopping team huge assets.

Wings can not afford this.

no, I'm not Holland's fan. but I'm behind him not signing Floppa and not wasting

Wings (thin) prospects for a rental player

Man, people sure are going to be disappointed around here when the Preds snag Forsberg for picks and a young puck moving defenseman (which they have a lot of and which Philly desperately wants).

I'd love to see Forsberg here, but I just don't think we've got the assets that it'll take to land him.

As mentioned by others already, Lang was rumored to become a Red Wing long before it actually happened. I think the main reason Holland hasn't gone after big name free agents is lack of cap room, rather than a sudden change of philosophy. I think Holland is very interested in Forsberg. Personally, I'm not in favor of a Forsberg move. I imagine the asking price being a prospect, a 1st rounder and perhaps a conditional pick. I'd rather save a pick and take a chance on Bertuzzi.

What do you all think about this..This makes me think he wont leave Philly.

The first thing I think of is "Eklund". I wouldn't beleive Eklund if he told me Tuesday followed Monday.

You have as much information and 'sources' at your disposal as he does.

Think about it. Did he mention ONE thing about Stuart to Calgary or Nagy to Dallas? NO. In fact, I don't think Calgary even got a sniff on his "e-ratings" scale.

The truth is, if a deal is going to be done, none of the parties will divulge any information. The rest is just hearsay from the water boys to the trainers.

I agree. I heard that Ryan Suter is being used as bait to land a big forward for the Preds. How do the wings counter that? Maybe with Kindl. But I don't want to give up a potential top 4 dman (as early as next season) for an oft-injured forward who might only healthy enough for a cup of coffee.

It also doesn't make sense to me for the Wings to pick up another playmaking centre over a goal scoring winger.

Go after a top guy like Guerin or Tkachuk and then maybe some 2nd tier guys like Roberts, Sanderson or Kapenen.

Hey, he's a hell of a goaltender.

You know.

"Jesus saves!"

*tap tap*

This thing on?

hmmm... I'm fine with him as a goaltender as long as he's not messing

with his water bottle, and more precisely with its content :)

I actually really hope Detroit makes the move- Floppa to Nashville would be pretty scary.

Exactly what I have been thinking. As is, I think a seven game series with the preds would be pretty even, but not if they pick up Forsberg. If for no other reason, we may need to pick him up so the preds or ducks don't.

People are overstating the salary cap issue. Floppa would only count against for a little more than a million and a quarter for the remainder of the season. Leaving us with 750K area under the cap. If he doesnt work out, he's only a rental and we'll just let him sign elsewhere after the playoffs. If we want to get someone else, Lang will be traded for prospects, cash, or a cheaper player. It's not really a big deal since Floppa is UFA after the season.

get him so nashville doesn't get him. that's what i say.

think about this-what if, and i'm just curious about the reaction to this-he basically stays out all season due tothe ankle, doesn't do anything, but comes back and just OWNS in the playoffs and we win a cup.

what do we think then? waste of money? worth the young guys?

does it depend then if we resign him?

Haha, are you gonna change your name if we get him. It would be understandable if you did...

It's only a waste if he's hurt and we trade away a great player. If we get rid of some player who doesnt pan out and Floppa plays like crap, we're not really out anything.
