gowingsgo 3 Report post Posted February 18, 2007 Thats one hot team out east. I dont know if they have the defense to go far in the playoffs but they are hot on the Devils' heels in their division. That's one fun team to watch play with Sid and Malkin, not to mention Staal.

akustyk 84 Report post Posted February 18, 2007 They won't make it past the first round. they have >8M $ cap space so their GM may pull the trigger to some major trade(s) and fetch some playoff experience from the market (i.e. Guerin or Tkachuk likes - but I don't know how's their situation and whom they may need). with some added veteran depth they can do it. and if they get past 1st round and gain some confidence they can be one hell of a team to beat. for now they indeed seem too young and too inexperienced to make some noise. as the old saying goes: possibly but not likely
bcwingsfan19 0 Report post Posted February 18, 2007 I think that they would probaby go for a defenseman rather than Tkachuk or Guerin.

YoungGuns1340 1 Report post Posted February 19, 2007 There an explosive offensive team in a conference that rewards...explosive offensive teams. Teams will figure them out and shut them down in a 7 game series.
wingslogo19 281 Report post Posted February 19, 2007 The pens are my second fav team, been so since 1992.. There a great young team to watch with a ton of talent.... Will they win the cup this year, NO probably not, but for the pens to get into the playoffs will boost the confidence for the team and if they win a series they could just keep on rolling.. Playoffs anything can happen

toby91_ca 620 Report post Posted February 19, 2007 They're also a one-line team, and a very good one. Not so much this year, especially the last couple months. The 3rd and 4th lines usually do not chip in much offense, but they have been doing well in their roles (especially the 4th line). I think if they put their best players on the first line, they would be a one-line team, but they don't. Crosby is so good, the line is able to be productive regardless of who plays on the line. They are then able to play Malkin and Staal together on the 2nd line. I have to be honest though, I wouldn't mind seeing Staal playing with Crosby occasionally. Crosby and Malkin work well together in isolated situations, not sure it would make sense to play them together a lot, mostly because both of them want the puck all the time. Malkin is more of a shooter than Crosby, but he still isn't that pure sniper that would work best on Crosby's wing.
Wings_Toledo 233 Report post Posted February 19, 2007 They're also a one-line team, and a very good one. Not really. The Staal, Malkin and Christensen line contributes just as much as the Crosby, Recchi, Malone line and in the past 4 or 5 games all of the lines have been scoring. I think they have a fairly good offensive touch on all four lines so that if Crosby doesn't put up big numbers in a game then everyone else seems to step up. Sorry Crymson, looks like toby beat me to it.

Christiansen doesn't play on the 2nd line I don't think, at least not regularly, the third spot on that line is held by Oulette or however you spell his name. While some of the other lines are starting to score, they have still only won 1 game when Crosby goes pointless (luckily for them, that doesn't happen too often). Bob_Essensa 0 Report post Posted February 19, 2007 How many young first rounders from years past are in that lineup??They'll never be able to afford to keep all those guys together a few years down the road.Crosby,Malkin,Stall,Malone,Fleury..imagine the price tag for all that in the years to come!!!It'll be nice for them while they have it though. If they can secure some good defencemen, they'll be a major force next year.As for this season,i'm guessing first round exit unless they make some major moves soon. Heroes of Hockeytown 694 Report post Posted February 19, 2007 They definitely get tons of credit from me for being where they are. I'll eat my crow on this one, I didn't give them much of a shot at the playoffs (also didn't have Crosby penciled in for Art Ross). But they've gone out there and exceeded expectations. The gap between in and out is still pretty small, can't say for sure now that they will in fact make it, but even being this good so far is a shocker to me. Look out, now, because I'm going to lowball them again: I still think they've got first round exit written all over them.
Guest ZetterBurger40 Report post Posted February 19, 2007 I would agree that I don't see them making it out of the first round, Atlanta on the other hand...
BobRouse03 31 Report post Posted February 19, 2007 I would agree that I don't see them making it out of the first round, Atlanta on the other hand... I see Atlanta as a team to go out early, that is if they manage to even make the playoffs. They are such a Jeckyl and Hyde team. They could be a bear in the playoffs or a total flop.....Im under the impression they would be a total flop. Then again I thought the Hurricanes would lose in the first round last year so what the hell do I know.
gowingsgo 3 Report post Posted February 19, 2007 Hate to admit this, but I NEVER miss a Pens game when I find my way into Pittsburgh for a football game trip. They are one of the funnest teams to watch with Crosby and now Malkin. They definitely need more defense than offense and they have 2 very good lines and a decent 3rd line. They will make a splash in the playoffs. I wouldnt want to see this team come playoff time.
Guest Crymson Report post Posted February 19, 2007 If the Penguins are to be undone by anything, it will be their defense. In any case, the Pens will be able to romp for a few years--they'll take a hit once they actually start needing to pay Crosby, Malkin and Staal. I'll give you that one. They are fortunate in having several extremely good, cheap (rookie salary cap) rookies. BlueMonk 102 Report post Posted February 19, 2007 I didn't start believing in this team until recently, but count me in. I think they could do major damage this year. For one thing, the East sucks. They'll have a much easier path in that conference.
Kp-Wings 3 Report post Posted February 19, 2007 Now that Eric Cairns is back in the lineup, the Pens finally have a designated tough guy to protect Crosby. That being said, I see very little weakness with this Pittsburgh team.

Bob_Essensa 0 Report post Posted February 19, 2007 They said on TV today that they have 7 first rounders in the lineup. WOW!!That's insane!! Tanking on purpose will do that for you. Heh, yep!! They'll never keep them all in the long term though, so I really don't see the point of doing that.I guess they could trade some in various deadline deals for prospects once they're upcoming UFAs though.
