2002 Conn Smythe Trophy

OK, so I have been watching my DVD box set of the 97, 98, and 2002 Stanley Cup championships. After watching the 2002 (Red Alert Hockeytown 3) DVD, I was thinking to myself after listening to all the interviews from the players and all of them either talked about how great Hasek played for them or how Yzerman carried them on his back, never really heard anything about Lidstrom besides his center ice goal. That being said I was just wondering who you guys think desrved the Conn Smythe Trophy that playoff year. Maybe Yzerman, Hasek, or Lidstrom? I mean im not saying Lidstrom didn't desreve it but I think that Hasek or Yzerman(my pick) didn't get considerd enough for it. So what opinions do you guys have?

Any one of Fedorov, Yzerman, Lidstrom, or Hasek would've been the right choice.

Don't forget Hull. He led the team in goals scored &c.

Lidstrom was a rock on the blue line. He played more minutes than anyone else in the playoffs, led all defensemen in points, and had a large part in MANY notable plays.

Yzerman was probably the runner up. I never heard Fedorov mentioned as a contender.

Hull and Hasek would have been tied for a distant 4th in my opinion.

If I was picking, Fedorov would have been the guy. Yzerman also said that playoff year was the best he's ever seen Fedorov play, which says a lot.

Agree about the tie for 4th. As for the other three, I'd say it was a complete toss up. The inspiration and scoring from Stevie and then Sergei and Nick had about the same impact but at two different positions.

If Yzerman would've kept his point totals high in the latter series, he probably would've gotten a 2nd Conn Smythe. His inspirational play in the 1st round though was one of a great things to lead to a rally in that series, and the one that stood out most IMO.

However, I just really didn't see many mistakes out of Lidstrom throughout that playoff year. He just quietly produced and was quite consistent, which is why he deserved it most.

the day before the wings clinched the championship, a friend and i were discussing the conn smythe. i thought that lidstrom was going to win it.

aside from the center ice goal that saved the playoffs for the wings, he played near perfect hockey for the entire playoffs. he was rock solid.

Yeah, I wouldn't have had a problem regardless of who they picked, but if it was my decision, I would have picked Fedoorv.

I was going to say the same kind of thing, but you said it perfect. Point wise, Yzerman fell off a bit. Lidstrom was a rock and was the most consistant player that playoff year, he deserved MVP.
