Aussie_Wing 354 Report post Posted March 22, 2007 There's a lot of talk about Crosby, Ovechkin, Stastny ect, ect, but this young lad doesn't deserve the recognition he deserves IMO. He is only 23 years of age and this season he has scored 35 goals, added 36 assists for a total of 71 points. However what really impresses me is his +/- statistic. He is leading the entire NHL with a rating of +40, four ahead of the next best who is Lidstrom. A dynamic offensive talent who will only get better in the coming seasons…
puckloo39 5,686 Report post Posted March 22, 2007 at one time, I would have said he gets no profile because he plays in Buffalo, but they've been very much on the radar this season. He's a very good young player. We'll see him around for a long time!
Heaton 1 Report post Posted March 22, 2007 It's pretty incredible considering that he's not a top line player this season and isn't really a two-way player either.
YoungGuns1340 1 Report post Posted March 22, 2007 Even Buffalo fans use Vanek as an example of whats wrong with the +/- stat. He is not even close to being a defensive player, but pure offense.
Jackrabbit 0 Report post Posted March 22, 2007 You guys are right on about Vanek being all offense. It was that way at U of Minnesota and before that, Juniors in Sioux Falls, South Dakota - the Stampede. Watched him play there and he was good, not record-breaking... Kp-Wings 3 Report post Posted March 22, 2007 Vanek is very good offensivly. He is a dynamic goal scorer, especially because he's so young at 23 and already has 35 goals while at that time not playing top line minutes. He is definitly an offensive force. His defensive game is stil very suspect though. I kinda consider him in the mold of Mariusz Czerkawski, because he has such dynamic offensive ability, yet very little defensivly. The Enforcer 13 Report post Posted March 22, 2007 good player.
datsyuk_13_fan 0 Report post Posted March 22, 2007 He has been a ton better this year, still has some off nights but overall much better. Plays a little on the PK this year as well. The line of Stafford-roy-vanek has been amazing, Stafford has been unreal for the sabres and got 2 goals last night including a highlight real one.
