Captain Zetterberg

Bertuzzi being used on the Shoot-out

Rate this topic

How does everyone else feel about Babcock using Bertuzzi, in his first 2 games playing in several months to put him into the shoot-out ? ? ?

With the possibility of putting another skilled player, there is a chance we could have won both of those games.

Is Babcock trying to make Bertuzzi a hero too fast by letting him do this, and as well as letting him play the first line with Dats.

I'm not surprised that any coach would want to put Bertuzzi in the shootout, but I am surprised he put Bert in during his first two games back. That being said, there isn't really any strain on Bert during the SO, and I'm sure he's been working on it plenty since he's been back on skates.

I'm OK with it. Bert is usually pretty good at shootouts and came really close on both attempts so far with the Wings. Just the size of that body headed for the goal would put the fear of God into some goalies... it's worth a try! :P

Most of the goals Bertuzzi scored on the Wings were break-away type goals...except he just ran right through the defenseman, :D I like him on the Shoot-out can you imagine the shoot-out line up: Datsyuk, Zetterberg, Bertuizzi? sounds good to me!

I'm not suprised that he's used him. It's pretty rare for a guys first two games with a team that both of them go to a shootout. Especially with Zetterberg being sidelined, I don't find it suprising at all that he has used Bertuzzi.

Babcock could put Lilja on the shootout but he'd probably turn the puck over at the blue line.

 I'm not sure which is worse. Lilja turning it over at the blue line or Samuelsson shooting it from the blue line.

In his first game back since Oct. 18, it could be considered overkill.

That being said, Bert's shots proved otherwise (except neither of them found the twine).

On normal teams, guys like Bert are in your Top 5 if not Top 3 best on the team.... Those are the ones you put in the Shoot Out. Guys like Sammy have no business (and showed it) being in the shoot out.

I agree with everyone saying it was alright to use him.

He proved in both games that he played well.

He was a better option then some of the other Detroit players.

He had two good chances too, so I say why not continue to use him.

Bringing him right back and putting him under pressure like that is good, gets him right into the swing of things.

First shot he beat norrena easily, just put it over the net, the second was a good save by bascashiua (sp)....i think he'll find his rythm soon, and hopefully put some in the net during regulation too...hes had chances galore

They probably won't even get the chance. There's only 6 regular season games left and the odds are none of those games goes to a shootout. After that it doesn't matter since they don't use shootouts in the playoffs.

Well yes, I realize that, but just stating if they went to another one.

I mean hey, we had only a few shootouts all year, it seems like we had at least 3 this past month.

So you never know.

sorry, don't like it at all. Not when you have Filppula, and Hudler on the bench. Seems like a lot of pressure on Bertuzzi.

Filippula was used in the shootout where Berts first made the appearance... he missed the net entirely on a weak shot, so that wasn't that big of a deal, Bert was helluva lot closer to scoring than Filp was. I was upset that Huddles did not go instead Sammy offered up his impressive knack to be uneffective during a 1 on 1 with the goalie.

We do play columbus twice more... they are always good for shootouts! I have been to 4 columbus games in the past 2 years and 3 of them were shoot outs :)

The Red Wings had 8 shootouts in the first 76 games, roughly one in every 10. I hope we don't go to another. Our record (2-6) is craptacular.
