Shanny hasn't made it back to the Joe yet.

Mac didn't have a choice is leaving, it wouldn't make sense to boo him.

And Igor, he'd fit into a category with Marty Lapointe, no one cared.

Point is, Feds is the only one getting booed. The fans (that boo) respect these other players

I know Shanny hasnt been back, but he wouldnt get booed

"Doesnt make sense to boo Mac"; so you must see the reasoning behind booing Feds

And I completly disagree that "no one cared" about Igor

Can anyone justify booing Sergei during a shoot-out attempt and not booing Vyborny or Kesla? Boo all of them or none of them.

Booing the only player on the Jackets that has made every Wings fan happy doesn't make sense. You're a douchebag if you boo him just because he left. Players leave, not everyone is Yzerman. Even Howe left.

Comes down to this: Fans pay $$ to attend a sporting event, as disrespectful as it seems to you, it's their dime, so they can do whatever the hell they want when in attendance.

before I get flamed I would NEVER boo poor Feddy. :P

True. It's just stupid that they manage to find the energy to boo Fedorov, but can hardly manage to make noise the rest of the time. A lot of games I've seen on t.v. the Joe is like a library.

Seriously, he is a fraction of the player he was... don't you think that playoff contenders would have been banging down the door to MacLean's office at the trade deadline if he was that great? There was actually some interest in Lang... Fedorov could have been had for the right price... Older, Slower, Big $$ in the cap era, WHINER!

You keep going on about how Federov was a whiner when he was here. Please produce some evidence of this fact. I'd even settle for an accurate example that's well documented. If he's as big a whiner as you say, this won't be a problem for you. Of course maybe you meant "winner"; that would be more accurate.

As for the people that are screaming "why do you care if we boo." How about this, your classlessness reflects on all Wings fans. I live in Columbus; the hockey fans here are a step below Nashville fans, and even they know what little class we have for booing Federov.

Yes of course. Nobody is arguing legality here; we're arguing that it's stupid.

Or it could be you can't produce any evidence, so you're falling back to the, "true fan would know" defense.

Also, FYI, I watched Federov from his rookie year on; my age has nothing to do with the argument.

A lot of other people said Fedorov wanted to leave. I'd be amazed if you could find any quote from him that even came close to it. Even if it was true, Fedorov has generally said good things about the team and chosen his words carefully.

Feds was definitely moody and it seemed like he wanted to be the one and only star, but I don't remember him ever saying he wanted to leave.

If I were watching some other team, like if Colorado was playing Nashville, and the crowd in Denver was quiet most of the game, only making a lot of noise to boo Peter Forsberg, my reaction would be "what a bunch of lame ass fans they have."

Actually, just because you pay money to attend the game does not give you free reign to do whatever the hell you want. You can't sneak in a monkey into the Joe and let it throw feces at the opposing team bench. Unfortunately, society doesn't consider rude and classless behavior like booing former sons of Detroit as unacceptable as feces throwing monkeys.

Anyway, I seem to remember hearing a statement from Fedorov at the time indicating that he felt the Red Wings were Stevie Yzerman's team and always would be and that he just wanted to go somewhere else where he could be a leader like Yzerman was here. I think that's fair enough. If Fedorov felt that he had what it took to be a great leader and captain, he should have the chance to show it, since it definitely wouldn't have happened here, not before Steve retired.

On him ever making a return, I'd be all for it. It worked out great for Selanne...

He was a great player, one of the best to play the game and he still is. The reason we boo him is how he left Detroit, he broke the hearts of all our fans, especially when he went to the Ducks of all places who swept us the previous year in the playoffs  . Anyways he gets alot of respect from our fans, but the way I see the booing is our show of disrespect towards him as we think he disrespected us when he left the team and organization. He really doesn't deserve it because he was such a big part of our 3 cups, but it is a "What have you done for me lately?" type of world today and he hasn't done anything for us so the fans boo him. I personally would love to bring him back and pair him up with anyone on offense or D. I think with his God given ability he can play another 10 years on Defense, just like Chelios is doing. He can thank Scotty Bowman for that.

Actually, I'd pay money to see a s*** throwing monkey. I'd rather not have to pay money to sit next to a drunken idiot who relentlessly boos one of the greatest players of the modern era, especially since we all know that same idiot would s*** himself and try to shake the man's hand if he saw him anywhere but a hockey rink.

People were heartbroken when Fedorov left. Its not about him sucking or his morals, etc - although people will use those excuses for booing him. Its about him being a standout son of Detroit and then leaving Detroit for another team.

Is it immature to boo him? Yeah. Personally, I think its getting pretty old, but its one of those things that will probably never go away and in some ways could be taken as a compliment. He wouldnt be booed in people didnt care about him so much in the first place.

Well said.

No. Some are drunk and some are idiots and some are drunken idiots.

I'm not saying that booing has no place in sports, but there are certain players who deserve nothing but respect and admiration from all fans, not just the home team fans. I was at a Sharks game last year and one of my friends (a sharks fan) started heckling and booing Steve Yzerman! I almost knocked him out!!! I'm not saying that Fedorov is at the same level as Yzerman, but in the eyes of long time Detroit fans, he should be close.

In this case, no, not much of a difference. One is coming from your hand, the other from your mouth.

If you have a legitimate point to boo, shaare it with the others in the class. Until you produce a quote that Sergei wanted to leave for money or didn't like playing here you are to be considered a classless fan.

guys, if we boo him, he wont wanna come back here. even though it doesnt offend me that he gets booed, i think we should start cheering for him, so when hes a free agent he will come back and play for penneis just to be a red wing again....i know, its a pipe dream

I wouldn't mind having Sergei come playoff time this year...wouldn't that have been a sweet pick-up?

I was at a game at the Joe when he got booed, I stood and clapped.

I don't think at this point he's getting booed for any reason other than its just a thing to do at the Joe. People don't even know what the hell they are booing about...just a fad...a really sad one.

I hope that when Shanny comes to town they play the jig for him.

Not much of a difference between being on the receiving end of boos, and having human s*** hurled at you? I should ban you for making this statement.

You Fedorov Slappies must have missed half the guys career in Detroit... He complained about ice time, about his role on the team, about playing defense, about not being "loved" by the fans in Detroit and on and on and on.

I did a quick archive search of "Sergei Fedorov" on www.detnews.com and the first four entries in 1999 were titled as follows:

1. Amid criticism, Fedorov chases elusive acceptance: Center denies report, says he is happy as a Wing

January 19, 1999

2. Fedorov grumbles about role: Red Wing remains uncomfortable over ice time

May 21, 1999

3. Frustrated Fedorov fires back: Slumping Wing upset over 'totally screwed up' situation

February 7, 1999

4. Fedorov seeks MVP form: Red Wings forward has new attitude, will accept any role.

September 2, 1999

That was just 1999... I would love to read the articles, but I am not paying for them.

You people need to wake up... I am not even here to defend the booing, just the incompetence of some of the people in here who thought Sergei was a heavenly hockey player during his time in Detroit. He was, and maybe still is, a very gifted hockey player, but he WAS a whiney little baby when he was in Detroit!

Stop drinking the Kool Aid people...
