Islanders' Ice Girls claim abuse by Rangers

they should quit. All of them. Now. Please? <_<

For all of you who bashed Dom for not moving out of the slush-shovelling wenches' way, he at least just stood there like a stone statue and waited for them to go away...

"A report in newsday.com reveals that the girls were cleaning loose ice in the blue-painted goaltender's crease when Rangers goaltender Henrik Lundqvist refused to move and used his stick to hit the squeegee used to push the snow during the first TV timeout, knocking the butt end into her stomach. He shouldn't have to. The good ones don't. :P

Your right, he shouldn't.

Except Henrik should of done what Hasek did and ignored them. I should expect slashing, spitting and verbal abuse from Sean Avery, although all of that wasn't his fault :P

Immature on the players part if it's true.

edit: spelling

i think the islanders ice girls are really hockey groupies

Ya think? Being female myself, I can see through this sort of thing. Agenda: get close to potentially rich hockey player, land same, marry and be pampered hockey wife. Ta-da!!

I doubt any of those ladies have degrees in Ice Slush Management, or see this as a way to further their careers.

they're basically cheer leaders.

i'm sure the 13 year old boys and girls who do this at wings games have degrees in ice slush management too.

i see nothing wrong with it, it's not like marketing is using them as a ploy for people to come to the games.

You're either just paranoid or something else, i highly doubt these "ice girls" believe anyone is going to marry them for what they're doing, it's just something to get exposure. People have been discovered in the same sort of ways.

This is one of the main reasons why I believe hockey should not have cheerleaders... Its one thing in the stands... but becomes another when there on the ice... Half of the girls cant even skate...

Quick question, does anyone know if they do both creases or just the visiting goalies crease? My buddy is a goalie and he ikes the snow shavings because it helps with sliding and could "possibly slow down a trickling puck."

I thought the funniest part of the article was when he suggested that he prefers to stay in the crease during timeouts to maintain concentration. Ummm, yeah.....I would think he really just wants to avoid having the crease cleaned so the build up helps stopping the puck. All goalies do it and all should be forced to move so it can be cleaned.

I play goal and the ice shavings are good for when i miss the puck, allowing me to reach back and get it before it is in the non-blue area....I wouldn't want them to take away my edge either...

I don't need a cheerleader to tell me when to cheer for my team. I understand the game.

Discovered? In order to do... what? Maybe I am paranoid, although I don't really understand the reference in this case. But, I am not naive. :sly:

that's exactly why the goalies who won't move don't like this, I think. That, and they may be concentrating on the game and don't appreciate the interruption/distraction. Both creases, by the way...

All of a sudden, my back got wet," Benson told Newsday. "I believe one of the Rangers players who was sitting along the wall spit on my back. It had to be on purpose because I wasn't directly in front of anyone to spit and not realize I was there."<--- that was the best part. She alleges, yet she never really saw someone spit on her. Could perhaps it have been that she got wet because she was indeed on ice- whish is in fact, water...... but if a player did spit, than that is just pure immaturity.

Much ado about nothing. Had Lunqvist really taken a "big windup" and laid a slash on her squeegee with his goal stick (wow that sounds dirty), he likely would've knocked it clear out of her hands.

and the girl who claims she was spit on said she felt something wet on her back, and assumed it was one of the players and they did it on purpose.

and yes, Dom and Lundqvist and probably every other goalie in the league is doing it to try and keep the ice shavings in the crease. If it were officials skating over to clear it, the goalies probably would take it more seriously and feel like they had to move out of the crease.

By the cheerleader girls or by someone else, the crease should be cleared. They've already got the supersized pads, they can live without a snow fort in front of the goal line.

I agree that the ice girls should leave and that they are annoying as hell, but that in no way gives the players a right to do what they did. Let the annoying chicks do their job and thats that. No need for the players to be a bunch of jackasses.

I'm sure the ice girls clean the opposing goalies net every TV timeout they get, and leave the Isle's crease alone. They're probably instructed to do so since it can "help" the puck sneak in a little easier.

The reason is clear why the ice girls clean the opposing sides crease, but now that its become an issue multiple times, its probably time to stop.

Sidenote: I agree that the players have no right to be jackasses (towards any teams non-direct personnel), but the ice girls should either clear both creases or neither of them to help alleviate the problem at the root of it.
