Islanders' Ice Girls claim abuse by Rangers

I wholeheartedly agree.

The shootout must go. :P

Honestly I think the ice scraping girls (or whatever they're called) is pretty cheesy. Just send an arena guy out there to do it. It's just funny to me how irritated some people (females *cough*) seemed to be by their very presence.

i wholeheartedly agree.

as far as the ice girls go, eh, i don't really care either way. i don't get much opportunity to see an nhl game live and i certainly wouldn't let something so trivial ruin it for me.

oh, btw, i'm female.

An interview with an ice girl:

"Something your fellow Ice Girls don't know about you: I can out eat anyone on the team"

I got that mixed up for a second. blush.gif

Ahahaha yeah I had to read it twice. I was like "WHAT!!?? AWESOME!!!" Then I was like "ohhh... fat ass..."

Oops meant to make this my sig, accidently hit send or whateer.

Agreed.

let me guess... you're a guy? :P

Seriously, I hope the Rangers drop this and nothing happens to Lundqvist. Perhaps Rangers management should just drop the ice scraper chicks (and hire kids or old fat men) during the playoffs so as to not to upset/distract their players? ;)

Ya think? Being female myself, I can see through this sort of thing. Agenda: get close to potentially rich hockey player, land same, marry and be pampered hockey wife. Ta-da!!

I doubt any of those ladies have degrees in Ice Slush Management, or see this as a way to further their careers.

This is about the stupidest topic ever.

First of all, as a male, I love attractive girls. I especially love it when they're dressed in tight fitting clothing. I love it even more when I get to see them during breaks of a hockey game.

Think about it, hockey + hot girls....hmmmm......does life really get any better than that?

As for the puck bunnies or skate chaser comments. I think that's retarded. Nobody knows any of these girls. Most of them are probably college students. We're aren't talking about strippers or hookers for pete's sake. Maybe you shouldn't judge people so harshly, especially when you don't know them. But my guess is you're probably a wee bit jealous, no?

As for the players, one would think they'd be trying to get the girls instead of spitting on them. I find it unlikely that that happened.

As for Lundqvist, he slashed at the girl's squeegee? Are you serious Henrik? What a little ******* ***** you are. They're cleaning up around the ice. Get over your ******* self and just sit there and ignore them. For the referees to have to intervene to get a professional athlete to act like a professional and not a child is ridiculous. I'm not surprised Colin Campbell nixed this thing as fast as possible. Talk about bad press. Hockey players slashing at and spitting on young girls.

Anyway, I hope the spitting thing isn't true. And Henrik needs to get ahold of himself if he thinks he can act that way. Martin Brodeur doesn't go around doing that stuff so who the f*** does Lundqvist think he is?

Let the girls do their job. And seriously, way to paint a broad brush stroke over all the girls who peform some function like this.

As for you being a female you ought to be ashamed of yourself for stereotyping these girls you don't even know. What do you do for a living? How would you feel if people thought you did what you did just so you could screw your boss and get a raise or a nice phat ring. You ought to know better.

thanks for the lecture. I don't know any of those girls, and don't care to. You don't know me at all, so don't attempt to judge me or project your opinions on me. I am hardly ashamed of myself, by the way. If they are working their way through college, good for them. I worked my way through college and two graduate degrees, but not doing anything involving a squeegee. :)

It is my opinion that the girls don't belong on NHL ice, but the marketing groups in some franchises think the ticket buyers want this. Perhaps they are correct. I don't like it, and neither do a lot of other people I know, male and female. If you want to go look at scantily clad girls, there are other places besides a professional hockey game to do that, you know?

Three pages of this is plenty.

Okay, an Isles fan weighing in with a few points:

* Anybody here meet many LI girls of that age group? One word: S N O T T Y. Period. I can just HEAR the girl in question, in patented nasally LI voice to Lundquist:

"Excuse me.....Excuse me......EXCUSE ME!!!" Then the disgusted, I-can't-believe-I-have-to-deal-with-you-do-you-KNOW-who-my-daddy-is snort, followed by her PUPOSELY jamming her squeegee against Lundquists goalie stick.

* Just a guess, but I'd bet good, hard-earned money that Isles Management encouraged this little bit of Drama. It's not the first time they've done so. Anything to make an Isles/Rangers game even NASTIER. Especially at THIS time of year, and with the implications of this Game.

* NO NEED for these girls to be out there, BUT......If they ARE gonna be out there: They're going to have to learn to EXPECT to be treated like "shovel chicks". Society is harsh. Out in the big, bad world, NOBODY cares about you, honey. Get used to it. Whining and crying only reinforces the fact that you ARE a "shovel chick". Rise above that stigma, and adopt a more dignified, mature response. EARN any respect you feel you deserve. That's the way the Law of the Jungle works.

* To those wondering what these girls could possibly be aspiring to in hoping to be "discovered, for what?" as an Ice Girl? Jill Nicollini got a nice spread in Playboy based on her in-crowd interviews during commercial breaks. And that's perfectly fine. These girls do personal appearances, commercials for local businesses, meet and greet type of gigs, photo shoots. Who KNOWS who they might run into at one of these engagements?

Some tend to forget that many people, men AND women, don't aspire to attend college, nor to earn two Graduate Degrees. It's perfectly fine to get by on your looks alone, if you can swing it. It's good work, if you can get it.

Cindy Crawford is dumber than a ROCK. I'm guessing she doesn't have many money concerns, though. Alessandra Ambrosio doesn't appear to have much need for a higher education, either. Somehow, she's getting by. Both appear to be doing quite well for themselves.

And BOTH of them probably making a DAMNED sight more than someone with two, three, or even four, Graduate Degrees.

Again......Law of the Jungle.

You don't want anybody who doesn't know you to prejudge you project opinions of you? Wow, what a novel concept. Perhaps you should've taken your own advice before you chimed in on this topic to begin with.

So you know people who don't care for the ice girls. Awesome. Let's put that right up at the top of the list of things we need to correct for the game of hockey. I suppose it ranks up there with national TV deals and getting rid of Bettman.

They have cheerleaders in football, the most popular sport (Nascar doesn't count folks, sorry) in the US. They have cheerleaders in basketball. What's the big deal if these girls come out for like 25 seconds every so often to clean the ice. They aren't out there naked fooling around with vibrators are they? They aren't out there doing anything dirty or sexual. They're in tight fitting outfits and carrying buckets. Big f-ing deal.

Show me somebody who doesn't care for them and i'll show you 10,000 men who won't be able to speak to you because they're too busy drooling.

Anyway, I just thought it odd that you, a female would jump all over these girls. And then somebody does it to you and you don't like it. How hypocritical is that?

Does this "spitting incident" remind anyone of an episode of Seinfeld with Keith Hernandez?

I'm going to go with the second spitter theory.

April 3, 2007, Rangers-Islanders. The girls try to wipe the slush out of the goalie crease and it cost the rangers the game .. our day was ruined so we spit on them

This is my, and probably a few others' thing with it: What's even the purpose? It's a hockey game. We came to watch guys perform athletically and play their hearts out in a designed contest. Are we there to dress up a couple hot girls and send them skating out onto the ice for "fan teaser" time? A little eye candy? Some for you, some for the kids?

It's hockey. We've already got enough girls in skimpy outfits trotting around out there and showing themselves off, we can afford not going the way of the NBA or NFL.

Perhaps you're right. But if that's your stance, then in all fairness:

Why sell food at hockey games. Or better yet.....beer?

It's a hockey game. Fans came to watch guys perform athletically and play their hearts out in a designed contest. Are we there to ingest overpriced, unhealthy food, devoid of anything but fat and cholesterol and imbibe WAY overpriced and undersized alocoholic beverages?

It's hockey. There are plenty of eating establishments and bars on every street corner without having to peddle bad food and watered down beer to folks who hadn't the forethought to have dinner before coming to the game, or who simply cannot wait until AFTER the game to knock back a few cold ones. We can afford not going the way of MLB.

All a matter of simple perspective.....

So harsh. Everyone knows that statistis prove that being an Ice Girl leads to achieving a masters or PhD level education followed by a successful career in academia, research or aeronautical engineering.

And yet, as a Ph.D student, somehow I never meet any ice girls in academic circles. <_< We do have lots of those attractive AND brainy irresistible types, though. :)

It's probably because I view sexuality as being something that's more than a consumptive good like food or drinks. I see the usefulness of food and drinks: I don't for the former.

Let the kids do the ice-chip clearing. Besides, I doubt we'll see Lundy hacking at a thirteen year old anytime soon.

Sorry, but if i'm trying to grow the sport I'd think following the NFL might not be a bad place to start. It isn't rocket science. You take a sporting event, add in alcohol and thousands of men, its a natural evolution to add hot chicks to that equation.

And seriously, we aren't even talking about half time shows or anything. We're talking about intermission and tv timeout breaks where you don't even get to see the girls unless you're at the arena or have CenterIce and they don't break away from the telecast. Some would argue big deal, you barely get to see them. I say big deal, they aren't causing any trouble so freaking get over it. Like hockey is too advance or too classy to have cheerleaders or ice girls. Sheesh.

The beer and and food can kill you. The beer can cause you to drive drunk on your way home, maybe kill yourself or some poor schmuck. Not to mention the damage to your liver. The food, hah, the only thing that gets you is a trip to the doc someday for an angioplasty.

So that's usefull?

I'd say squinting at pretty girls is probably less harmful to you and far more useful to you than alcohol and high fat, high cholestoral foods.

Actually, I think it's pretty classy that they didn't. Is it a marketing move that can have real business benefits of drawing new fans in? Maybe, maybe not. I doubt you'd get that many new recruits based on the persuasiveness of hot girls in tight outfits though, to be honest. Let's not kid ourselves here.

And also, I think you're being a little facetious on the food and beer argument, unless you yourself really do maintain a reasonably healthy diet and truly hold that view of alcohol-consumption at massive public events. But if that's how you want to attack the other point, sure, I guess, go for it.

I didn't bring up the beer issue since that was a side-topic that wasn't worth it to me to hash up. I really wouldn't advocate either at a sporting event, all in all. But in the end, when it comes to "ice girls", I tend to go with that ever so obnoxious high road of saying: keep 'em out of the game. Even if their role ain't the same as their NFL or NBA counterparts. Go look at Maxim if you absolutely must spot some smoking hotties, pro hockey can definitely do without.

First of all, why is this even news? Second of all, why do Wings fans care? We've got the Datsyuk contract, Zetters back, Dom's age and like a million other things to talk about that are more important. I don't mean that the subject is unimportant, just that people tend to blow it way out of proportion. Lundy got pissed for a pretty good reason. He doesn't have to go through the same crap in most other places, why should he have to move for the NYI?
