I suggested that I thought it was a clean hit, but wouldn't be scratching my head if a charging penalty was called, because I do think there is some merit to that argument. Gliding or striding aside, you would have to agree, in order for it to be a charge a player would have to go out of his way to make the hit. This just simply doesn't fit that mold. No way is it a charge. BTW, it is generally charging when a player goes out of his way to make the hit, and takes 3 or more strides without stopping to do so. StaticWithABeat 0 Report post Posted April 18, 2007 Just look at Phaneuf the instant before Cleary hits him...one skate on the ice, hunched over, skating backwards...he's going down even if he gets lightly bumped. It should've been a relatively routine hit but he was in a really bad position, which is why he got rocked like he did. It was NOT a malicious hit, Phaneuf just received the puck at an ill-advised time and wasn't in a position to take the check. There, now we can stop bickering and move on with our lives. Oh by the way you won 1 game don't get to happy your still down 2-1 and the refs were obviously in your favor tuesday night and if you deny it then your lying to yourself. Good call on Markov when he whiifed on the slap shot and was following through and the flamers player runs into him......... how the hell was that an interference call on him. Anyways Wings will win the series no doubt about it but we will be better fans and not flood your board like IDIOTS> HEY to the guy that thinks Phanuef will pummel Cleary i say bring it on. I think Cleary would woop his Arse all over the ice and knock him around a little more. Stanley & Campbell will have jobs for you after the post-season. I forget who it was, but I particularly dig the distinction someone made between "elbowing somebody" and "delivering a check, where the elbow, tucked-in, is the connecting point". This is one thing that people go wild about in their defining of an elbow, when there's no cause for offense in the first place. Kudos, mi amo-.. amores? amigos? Amores! Burninator 0 Report post Posted April 18, 2007 (edited) Phaneuf on Datsyuk = clean Clearly on Phaneuf = clean I've seen enough replays of the first hit to know it's clean. I would have to see another angle of the Clearly hit to be convinced if he used his elbow. TSN's angles show the hit is fine. His elbow just looked like it was moving up from the follow through on his hit. Phanuef just got caught in a weird position with the puck and his head down. Scrambled his brains there for a second.
