Ducks respond on hit.....

I don't think that's what he meant, but w/e. There's no point in putting in my thoughts because I get told it's biased and BS.

The only thing I would say if Pronger was on my team would be "I'm glad Holmstrom is OK, glad our top D-guy isn't suspended for more games... see you guys in Game 4!" Us Sharks fans have been booing him every time he touches the puck...EVERY TIME... since he was with the St Louis BLues. This is the Pronger we all knew and hated... and apparently he still is.

The only thing that bothers me about some comments I've seen by Duck fans are those that come from people that obviously have never played, or just plain miss the fact that you need to have a certain level of respect for other players. Sure, it's no Eddie Shore hit on Ace Bailey... but one of these days we're going to see that again, or worse. And this is how it's going to happen. And if the league doesn't crack down harder, it will. Trust me... until you've been hit from behind or knocked out on the ice, or take off the fan glasses, you can't really appreciate just how dangerous what Pronger did was.

Ducks fans biased? Try the GM.

"We disagree completely with (NHL disciplinarian) Colin Campbell's decision here. But we respect the process, the Ducks general manager Brian Burke said. "If you watch some of the other views, it looks like a dangerous, high hit. If you look at the end zone view, I think it shows best that Chris Pronger went to hit Tomas Holmstrom at a 45-degree angle from the boards.

"At no point is Chris delivering a hit toward the boards, a dangerous hit. He's coming in to finish a check at a 45-degree angle. Rob Niedermayer steps into the player (Holmstrom), pins him, you get a high finish."

right.... a 45 degree angle hit. Hey Burke, nobody gives a crap about the boarding... it's the elbown to the head. Does this look clean?

There's a great video with Barry Melrose about the hit....

What Brian Burke said about the Wings was nice. But Pronger definitely deserved a suspension.

Oh yes, that 5-0 win really made me cry.

Tears of joy maybe  I'm not bitching about anything. I was making a statement. I can banter with you if you'd like. I don't know if I have the energy, but I can try. I was just trying to get people to not look in such a condemning manner at Scotty. He's doing the same thing any Captain would do.

Dude, I play the game. I know how dangerous that hit is. I hate boarding calls no matter who delivers them. I love Jiggy to death, but if he was to board someone and they got 13 stitches, I'd hope to GOD that he got suspended, because it's wrong. So I hope that wasn't directed at me.

Neidermayer is just upset cuz he knows their f***ed without Pronger. When he was out this year, they were barely an above average (.500) team.

He's not whining. He just wants to know why his brother got the penalty and Chris is the one being suspended. He's the Captain. He's allowed to do that.

They both should have gotten 5+Game last night. Since Pronger was skipped in game 3, he'll serve game 4.

Scott should know this isn't an either/or situation. Both were at fault (Pronger a bit more than Special).

I think scott niedermayer is the man. I know Niks plus minus this year was exceptional but look at their ice time and points and it isn't so clear cut.

The sheer fact that you are going purely by typical stats proves you dont watch Nick Lidstrom enough to have a knowledgeable debate about who the obvious winner of the Norris should and will be.

But since stats is the only language you understand, how about that +40 to a +6 when Pronger was able to capture a +27 on the same team as Scotty??

And you wanna talk about Ice Time? Do you follow hockey or are you just a Ducks homer?

Regular Season Ice Time

Scott Niedermayer: 27:30

Niklas Lidstrom: 27:29

Wow. HUGE difference there.

And then you wanna talk about points?? OOOH a whole 7 pts difference. You wanna know where that comes from? It comes from Nicklas Lidstrom playing 15s less a game on the PP and playing 30s more a game on the PK. A 45 second differential in which scoring is half as likely per game (60 minutes total on the season) will do that to you.

And one analyst said it best "Scott Neidermayer was not nearly as good when Chris Pronger was out of the lineup." Right he was. In fact, over 16 games without Pronger, Scotty averages out to a -1.

EDIT: I forgot to mention, I readily admit that Niedermayer is a great defenseman and that he deserves to be nominated, but it goes to Lidstrom, hands down.

I can see why Niedermayer wants to defend his brother and Pronger, but his argument is comical. He thinks just cause the refs called one thing on the play, that Pronger should not be touched? It seems like he thinks Pronger should be off limits since Rob got the initial penalty.

Thats what we call 'video replay' Scott. Remember, the thing which got you the tying 'goal' in game 2???

I'm glad you find it funny. No where do I hear Nieds saying "Oh, but we're nothing without Pronger! F**k the League! Now we're screwed!" He was making statements, and after last nights outcome, I'd be pissed too. In fact, I am pissed.

You'd probably be even more pissed if it were Selanne's helmet-less head that was buried into the glass- especially if such a dirty ass hit took him out of the series (thankfully it didn't take Homer out, but could have)

no, I wasn't directing that at you specifically... but I do doubt that you play at a level that you have to worry about taking checks like that, or keeping your head up constantly. That's more what I was trying to say.

But it is good to hear that fans from Anaheim know the game and actually play. I live in L.A., and I know how hard it is to get stick time at any arena. I'm usually at the rink on Sepulveda in Culver City.

When i made that comment i made it because they were so evenly matched statistically. Henceforth i was correct.

Okay..i wasn't saying you weren't correct. I had no idea what Neidermayer's times were, but with Nick often playing 30+ minutes a game i didn't think anyone could possibly play more than him, it seems like he is always on the ice! lol

Ok, well then fair play there, but you should be more specific than that. I know off-hand that Lidstrom and Nieds are neck in neck as far as TOI/g goes, so that comment as it stands sounds pretty ridiculous.

I mentioned the fact that the Norris isn't so clear cut and ready to hand over to Lidstrom. That was my point i made it. With regards to the hit and Niedermayers reaction i expected him to probably run that route with his answers to avoid any backlash on chris its too be expected. While i feel it was a vicious hit i think one game was a satisfactory disciplinary action.

If you follow the ducks you might also know they were missing Beauchemin also,Scotts pairing d-man which puts a lot of stress on your defense.

Anybody else think Scott Niedermayer looked like a homeless person in that press conference?

Anyways, all Scott has to do is watch the replay if he's seriously wondering why the league is taking action against Pronger. The officials on the ice made a mistake not penalizing Pronger during the game, and now he's getting what he deserves for driving Holmstrom's head into the glass.

Burke made the statement more than once that it was the honorable to put the player back on the ice...rather than "packing him up" and sending him out [...to the hospial]. First of all, I'm very shocked that Holmer wasn't concussed after that hit and would think it would have probably have been in the best interest of Holmer's noggin to maybe at least sit out the rest of the game and maybe get checked out by a doctor.

I just don't see the "honor" in returning to the game. I see it as maybe on the irresponsible side, especially when dealing with a possible head injury. Most of the time when dealing with head injuries, we closely monitor patients. I understand hockey players have a history of re-attaching a limb ala Yzerman's knee or wanting to get back out there and not miss a shift but gosh, its the head!

Now maybe Holmers the exception, he stands in front of the net for a living with less protection than a goalie. And we may not always know what he is saying and attribute it to his accent...I don't know...

Can someone please shed some light on the topic?

You're right, which is why I don't condemn you for being mad at Pronger ;) I know what it's like.

And you're right, I don't have to watch for my head, cuz I'm a goalie. They just sit on me. And I'm in Florida playing hockey. I had to go to Florida to play ice hockey

I'm not really hearing him sounding like he's gonna cry or anything.

He sounds frustrated and annoyed. Whether that's with the stupid questions from reporters or about the suspension, it's hard to tell.

Not to mention the sound quality was so crappy it was hard to hear anything.

Does anybody remember when Pronger was hit in the chest by a slapshot when he was a member of the Blues. Didn't his heart skip a few beats. He needs to feel that pain again when he comes back for game 5.
