lars1970 1 Report post Posted May 31, 2007 (edited) I can't get my head around the fact that a team called the Ducks might actually win The Stanley Cup. Great point. Because "Penguins", "Hurricanes", "Stars", "Red Wings", "Maple Leafs", etc. are so much more 'manly' and hockey-like than "Ducks". What a stupid post. It's his opinion. You added the "meaning" to it, which is your opinion, I guess. I think it's unnatural for Lord Stanley to go to California at all, just as it was weird to see it in Carolina and Florida. Old School, here, I guess. The wings and leafs have had respect since the game was created.
Duckette 0 Report post Posted May 31, 2007 nah, D... I am much less impressed with Giguere than the rest of the world is, but he's OK. It's Pronger I despise, and I am sorry it spoils my opinion of your club that he is there, as does the association of Brian Burke, whom I also detest. Giggy is a little tooooo excited considering he wasn't exactly the reason they won. I know the Ducks haven't made it this far before. I think the Sens are displaying what pretty much everyone who watches hockey knew: the West is incredibly tough conference. Hence the Wings -- injured and depleted as they were -- took the series farther than they should have, really. Gave 'em a run for the money, as it were. The East is weak, hence Ottawa doesn't know what to do with the Ducks. Regrettably, having to face the Wings taught the Ducks how to win. They look very much like they did versus the Wings (minus Pronger trying to kill someone, I mean). Ottawa can't compete. I will be interested to see if the Sens play better in front of their own crowd. Fine with me! I love Jiggy! But I fell in love with him during the 2003 run, my first ever hockey game. You don't have to love him, I just thought you mean that what he did was unsportsmanlike and I didn't understand how that was possible You don't have to like Pronger. I'm not too fond of him myself, but I do love what Burke has done with this franchise. I like his passion that he shows, so it doesn't bother me I'm a very passionate person too, so it fits right in my book just fine

I realize that most of the people on this board are males under 25 and subsequently the posts are testorone driven and not well thought out. My post was. Once that wheel with a wing on it gets rolling, it'll crush a puny little duck. Duh. I thought even a hockey fan from California would realize that.

Pronger has a long history of trying to kill Red Wings, including a cheapshot attempt on Stevie Y which backfired, when Pronger ended up tearing up his own knee (playoffs 2002). Not sure if you saw that, since you started watching in 2003. But, it was poetic justice at its best. One can hope that sort of lightening will strike again, and Chris Neil will discover that physics stuff works on Pronger, too. One can hope. As for Burke, he falls into the Whine Gretzky category. You say passion, I say complaining. You can accomplish a lot of great things, without being a whiner and obnoxious about it. Bryan Murray, not surprisingly, comes from the same school of thought. They need to take lessons from Kenny Holland, Mike Babcock and Jim Nill, classy guys with hockey accumen to spare. But it takes all kinds, I reckon. Take it easy, D. Good luck to your Duckies in Canada, eh? Edited May 31, 2007 by puckloo39

But I mean Jiggy's passion, not Burkies. It's past midnight, I'm a little tired. Forgive me No, I did not see that hit. I saw ZERO hockey until Game 3 of the Western Conference Quarterfinals against your Red Wings. But I have heard about it. I don't approve of any cheap shots or cheating. When Teemu was caught with that illegal team, I was crushed. I wish Pronger would learn to control himself. I don't like for the Ducks to be tagged as a bunch of goons, because they aren't. This is an extremely talented team. I will be taking it easy, seeing how I'm on summer vacation (woohoo!) Have a great summer!!
RockyMountainWingGal 108 Report post Posted May 31, 2007 Well congratulations to the Ducks - two well deserved wins. I guess I expected more out of the Sens, but i'm a Western conference person and I rarely watch the east games, so I took alot for granted about the Sens chances from expert analyses and the few playoff games I've seen them play. The West is clearly the better conference. The Sens cannot even hang with the Ducks. If it's any consolation to us, we gave them a hell of a series that we came close to winning (kind of). Thus, unless the Sens can really turn it around and impress me, the Red Wings look like the second best team in the league. The last few SCF the West has not given the East it's best teams - the 8th seeded Oilers? I cannot believe the Canes needed 7 games for that one. Now were seeing what the top seeded West teams can do. Personally, I think the Wings could have taken it to this team like the Ducks are doing - which is kind of sad in and of itself to realize how close we actually were. The atmosphere (80% of the time) is nothing compared to the Joe, but it's on SoCal, so what do you expect? I love the Pond, its my home, but we can't compare to the Joe in atmosphere. It's not your fault he laid a dirty hit on someone - and not the first time he's done it. Personally, I thought the Ducks had a great team before they added him - he has been a great player for your team though and has seemingly pushed the Ducks over the top. I feel he's a bit lucky his suspension didn't cost them the series. If the Ducks win (looking likely now) he's really the only one most people don't like lifting the cup. But every team has guys other teams hate (like Bertuzzi is an angel )- I'm not going to lose sleep over it. I wouldn't like it if he got the CS though - I just don't think that would be fitting with his behavior - give it to your guy Giggy - noone could argue with that. If Giggy wins the Conn Smythe, he will be one of the few players who achieved such an honour. The only ones I can think of right now are Gretzky and Lemieux, and Roy. I believe Gretzky won it in '85, '87 and in '88. Lemieux in '91 and '92. Roy in '86 and '93. I can't recall who won it in '96. Sakic? Anyway winning 2 Conn Smythe Trophies is a hell of an achievment. I hate Giggy simply based on the fact he beat us out ... twice now. But if he were to be on the winnign team this season and win the Conn Smyth it would be very cool. Cuz last time he won it, he was on the losing team. Not too many guys can say they have done that.
