Legionnaire11 0 Report post Posted June 12, 2007 no surprise. The minute that they trade Smyth, I knew that Hartnell would be one of their top targets this summer.
Williams29fan 6 Report post Posted June 12, 2007 I think it would be very interesting to see hartnell in Pitts. I think he could fit in very well there.
Guest DetroitIan Report post Posted June 12, 2007 Thank God! Maybe now we can stop hearing all this bulls*** about him coming to the Red Wings. I'll pass on a guy who does nothing but run goalie after goalie in his career. Ran 6 and injured 3. Thats not Red Wing material in my book. But it certainly sounds like Oiler material, thats for sure. Not to mention the guy spending 1/4 of the game in the box from night to night. Good riddance Scotty boy. haroldsnepsts 4,826 Report post Posted June 12, 2007 On paper he's a lot of what the Wings need. I just hope they find it in someone other than Hartnell. Especially since with the level of interest he's already getting, Hartnell may replace Witt as one of the most overpaid UFA signings under the cap.

GoWings1905 2,694 Report post Posted June 12, 2007 (edited) The Oilers certainly have the cap space to overpay for Hartnell. Being only 25, I'm sure the highest offer of money will entice Hartnell much more than going to a winning team at this point. I'm still holding out hope that the Red Wings can somehow still get him, but it looks like Slava Kozlov Part II seems to be more likely. Henkka 0 Report post Posted June 12, 2007 If I could got 4mil and joing the sucking Oilers, I'd just take the 2,5 mil and to the rising Pens. Just imagine what a chance to play with the league best player Crosby.

Lou_Siffer 1 Report post Posted June 12, 2007 Im not big on Hartnell, i think his toughness might be getting a little overrated. He doesnt fight very often, and when he does hes not very good at it either. Also, there appears to be some character issues, and no, im not talking about running goalies,...that doesnt matter to me. Granted if i had to choose between the Wings signing Kozlov and signing Hartnell, of course i'd go with the latter, but i'd rather see other options pursued. Unless you mean Aaron Asham, I don't see anyone who can bring decent play along with toughness as much as Hartnell can. Heh. He can have fun sitting on the sidelines come April next season, because the Oilers sure as hell aren't going to make the playoffs anytime soon. The curse or Ryan Smyth will haunt that team for years to come.

Also theres still Hudler who can be dealt for a physical guy if Asham signs elsewhere.

I figured it would be a given Bertuzzi resigns judgeing by the way he talked. He'll have to take a major cut though, since I can't see anyone, even besides the Wings, signing him for what he makes now. Ok, maybe Toronto will, but that's the exception. The biggest deadline deal the wings ever aqcuired, Tomas Sandstrom ! As much as he sucked here, Sandstrom is/was probably one of the best Swedish players to play in the NHL in his days with New York and LA. He was a bust here though, definitly. In fact, I think he was the only forward (besides Tim Taylor, who was not a regular in the lineup) on the 1997 Cup Champion team not to score a goal during those playoffs. Kostantinov, Fetisov, and Rouse didn't score either, but they were defenseman. Still though, he was a great player, just not here in Detroit.

I always liked Sandstrom , his 1100 PIM's in his career was great. 800 points or so. I mean , Greg Johnson for Tomas Sandstrom is an underated trade. Even though Sandstrom only have 18 points that season ,we still won a cup with him. I remeber the pic of Holmstrom ,Lidstrom , and Sandstrom with the cup , oh the good ole' days. haroldsnepsts 4,826 Report post Posted June 13, 2007 to me Hartnell is one of those guys like Darcy Tucker. I love almost everything Darcy Tucker brings to the game, except he's Darcy Tucker.
Guest Crymson Report post Posted June 13, 2007 Also theres still Hudler who can be dealt for a physical guy if Asham signs elsewhere. Also, there's the illegal drugs you're surely taking if you think we can deal 5'9", unproven Hudler for any physical player of value.
Legionnaire11 0 Report post Posted June 13, 2007 if I had to choose $4M from the Oilers. or $2.5M from the pens to play alongside Crosby... or Malkin... or Staal... I think i'd take the Penguins. Hartnell has scored 20+ goals on the preds THIRD line with no center. He had Greg Johnson two years ago, and most of last season was Fiddler, Smithson or Nichol. Not exactly any kind of great set up man. Imagine what he could do with Sid the Kid.
Lou_Siffer 1 Report post Posted June 13, 2007 Also, there's the illegal drugs you're surely taking if you think we can deal 5'9", unproven Hudler for any physical player of value. Obviously, im talking about someone for the 3rd and 4th line. Probably a guy that you would mistakenly call a "goon" most likely.
GoWings1905 2,694 Report post Posted June 13, 2007 Also, there's the illegal drugs you're surely taking if you think we can deal 5'9", unproven Hudler for any physical player of value. Hudler scored 15 goals last season playing about 8-10 minutes per game. If the Red Wings give up on him, there will be plenty of teams willing to take him and a chance on his size. I agree the value in return for Hudler wouldn't be great, but calling a guy with 15 goals in minimal playing time unproven is a bit of a stretch.
