Oh god no. I love Rafalski, and think he's a great player, but 5 years/30 mililon? Are you serious?! Man, no more huge contracts until we get a few of them off the books. Zetterberg's is going to be added soon, and we're going to have a Tampa Bay situation on our hands. I hope the cap continues to skyrocket.

Well, at least we got a great player for that money.

just saw that, if we wouldn't pay schinder that money surley we wouldn't give it to rafalski maybe kenny is panicking.

Kenny is probably the least likely GM to pannick in the entire league under this new cap. The two things Im thinking are the reasons for Rafalski being easier to get than Schneider are that Rafalski places a high emphasis on winning, so that limits his choices, and that hes younger than Schneider and might sign something like a 4 year contract for less money than he would if it were 2 years like Schneiders.

Although I still don't like another huge contract in the books, Rafalski is outstanding, and should age very well (his game is similar to Lidstrom's). And honestly, Rafalski for 6m/year >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Schneider for 5.5m/year.

I'm alright with this, but honestly, NO MORE HUGE CONTRACTS!

I'm stunned. I think Rafalski's numbers will naturally inflate when he moves to a team capable of offense... 6 million seems like quite a bit for a #2 defenseman, but then he will be our #1 guy in the next couple of years (or few).

This is better than re-signing Schneider, though, and I think it was a good move. If Briere is worth 10 million then Rafalski is worth 8 million, so I'm happy with this.

Just a thought, anyone notice how accurate Eklund has been today? Seriously, he's called pretty much everything way before it happens. That's definitely a first.

I like this signing. Lidstrom ( hate to say it ) wont be around in two years, i imagine. Zetterberg can have some of that cash. Rafalski will turn nicely into the leader on the blueline that will be young. Lebda, Quincey,Kronwall, can all learn from a solid professional.

I believe people are becoming far to nervous about Zetterberg, Kenny knows what hes doing with Z, and will find space for him.

We have about 7 million left, right? And we want a 1 million dollar cushion, so we can still sign Hasek, a forward, and call up a defenseman.

Not to mention, Detroits financial future for the next 10 years is probably mapped out.

I like this, Schneider has been in the league for 21 years after this contract with the Ducks he will prolly retire. Rafalski has been in the league for 7 years, he's a young buck with many good years left in him in Motown.

Not young, no, but subject to the slow, lumbersome NJ development program... which usually turns out great players.

I'm predicting 60+ points for Rafalski, I think that's a realistic goal.

How is he on defense? I know he PKs (because he has a SHG).

And you will be happy to hear that he is a playoff performer- 8 points in 11 games last year.

I watched a lot of devils games this year and Rafalski has a knack for finding the open man especially on the powerplay. Plus he is really defensive oriented which will help. He may not have the slap shot of Schneider, but as for defensive he is better, and as for getting the innital assist he is a lot better. Good deal
