Guest DetroitIan Report post Posted July 14, 2007 I absolutely would LOVE to have Aves back in the winged wheel. He's a pest that knows how to throw others off their game. Yet he also has great passing ability and can put the puck in the net. He would be a perfect top 6 forward to add on. I really hope the Rangers cant re-sign him. I just wonder how much Avery is asking. Cause if it is reasonable, I see no reason why we shouldnt snag this guy ASAP. BRING BACK AVERY!!!
Cicada 4 Report post Posted July 14, 2007 i'd love Aves back... i can't see him getting on with Babcock at all though...especially with Steveie Y and Shanny gone... he still needs to be controlled
Guest jaytan Report post Posted July 14, 2007 I'd love to have him back. Man, was I ever pissed the day we traded him. I didn't even care that everyone thought we won the trade. It's great how well Avery's developed. I think he'd add quite a bit to the team. Is he actually a UFA? Why hasn't anyone been talking about this?
YoungGuns1340 1 Report post Posted July 14, 2007 Hes got some very underrated skills. However, Im not so sure hed want to come to Detroit. He likes being on a big stage. Detroits only a big hockey stage - not much else. I'd love to have him back. Man, was I ever pissed the day we traded him. I didn't even care that everyone thought we won the trade. Hes an RFA that will require New York to either demote or trade players if they want to re-sign him.

And since the Rangers are so close to the cap. If we gave Avery an offer. Most likely the Rangers wouldnt be able to match it. Therefore, he would be back in Detroit. Man that would be so perfect. IceMunkee 15 Report post Posted July 14, 2007 The Rangers will not be able to re-sign him. So he is an option. I am torn and with an good season last year as a pivitol part of the Rangers team he will get a bit of a pay raise. Some will pay him, we have learned that this year. I would love to have him back but only at the right price. I would say 2.5 mil is good and I think some team will give him 4 mil. He would make a great addition although there are rumors of him being a disease in the locker room. I know he is a lot of energy and grit and he brings hype with him and is a crowd pleaser. I would love to see him in the Wheel but I think it is unlikely... My bet he does not sign with us but he could fall into the squeez. Don't forget also the flip side of this years signings being so high is now the bargin bin players are being picked up. It is gonna be tough for guys like Avery to get big money and he might be caught in the squeez and may not get signed until just before camp by anyone. Fingers are crossed. Dammit ya'll got me hyped about him now...

Guest jaytan Report post Posted July 14, 2007 I'd give him a long-term contract at up to three million a year. He's worth it.

martyrme19 73 Report post Posted July 14, 2007 My how opinions have changed. I guess I cant say anyone who's already responded has changed their opinions, because i just dont know....but one thing i do know is that if this question was asked last season, or any other seaosn for that matter, it would be 90% people saying he is absolutely worthless and too much of a prick to ever want him back on the Wings. Then he goes to NY and actually shows people what kind of an impact he can make and everyone is singing his praises. Not that I can disagree, I've been on this guys bandwagon ever since his first day on the ice and haven't hopped off once. Glad to see people are coming around. He was actually playing really well for LA BEFORE he got traded to New York. Its just that New York gets more attention and had more talent, so Avery was able to show his own skills off. Avery was pretty worthless in 05-06, but because he had so many attitude issues and did cause trouble in the lockerrom, but after he was asked to leave the team, he had a sit down with the Kings GM, and he got himself straightened out. Ever since then, hes been more about the on-ice stuff than off the ice stuff. But he still keeps his mouth running, and in most cases, its actually good for the league. I dont have much doubt that the Rangers will find a way to keep Avery, even if it means dealing somebody. According to rumors, New York will probably demote Kaspairitus to the minors. That gets them 2.8M or so, enough to re-sign Avery and Hossa. However, as much as Kasper didnt have a good season last year, hes still a guy with good character, leadership, and experience. Personally, I think its going to have a bigger effect on New Yorks defense than they think, even if they are high on Girardi et al.

I thought even if you demoted someone to the minors you still had to pay him what he's signed for?

I found myself rooting for the Kings all the time because of Aves. And the Kings are usually a pretty fun team to watch.
