edicius 3,269 Report post Posted July 17, 2007 (edited) what happened there? We were there celebrating my mom's 50th birthday. Before we had even A) finished our meals, B) gotten my mom her birthday dessert, C) paid the bill, the "bouncer" (best description for him) came up to our table and was like, "Okay, out. Now." At the time, my sister's fiancee was not quite 21 yet and because of that, they were trying to force us out (they knew the relative ages of our party going in, but they also knew that this was a family dinner and not some teenagers just hanging out). We were sitting in the dining area, not at the bar and we weren't causing any trouble. I think I was the only one at the table drinking and I had only had one beer. We weren't the only people in the dining area either. My dad ended up having to struggle to get the manager - the "bouncer" initially refused to get the manager and when he finally arrived at our table, he was just as rude) and thankfully we were able to at least complete our meal and get my mom dessert...with the "bouncer" and another staff member hovering over our table the entire time. Really put a damper on the whole evening and because of that, we've never returned there. It's seriously some of the worst treatment me and my family have ever received at a restaurant in my entire life. EDIT: Typos. JayUp88 1 Report post Posted August 8, 2007 So last night i finally got to go and i would recommend it to everyone. I went down to the Tigers game last night about an hour and a half before the first pitch with the intent to stop at Chelli's or Hockeytown. We picked Chelli's and walked right up to the bar. If you wanted to sit at a table for a more dinner feel the wait was a full hour and i really didn't feel like missing the opening of the game. Anyways it was really cool inside. the building was had a great atmosphere to it. tons of Tigers fans having a couple drinks before the game. We went up to the second floor and had a couple beer and some nachos, which i would recommend to anyone. All and all i would say it was a great place to go. i would love to go there before a wings game or go to watch a tigers game from the roof.

Guest snowman89 Report post Posted August 8, 2007 i dont understand why it would even matter if you had someone in your party that was under 21. i just went to the website and didnt see anything about having to be 21 years of age in order to be in the place. My friends and I tried to go there a couple of years ago and they would not let my friends wife in because she was not 21, which was ridiculous because she was pregnant and she was not drinking anyway. There was some sort of sign at the door when you tried to get it in. I have been to the one downtown several times and had nothing but excellent service there, the atmosphere seems a lot more open and more fun at the one downtown than the one in dearborn. There also used to be a shuttle that goes between the Joe and Hockeytown Cafe on game days, not sure if it still runs or not.

Mickeyisms Rule! 0 Report post Posted August 9, 2007 Its a law in the state of Michigan that a place that calls itself a bar or tavern can not have anyone inside of it after 9PM under the age of 21 unless they are "plainly marked as such." Basically, that's why if you are under 21 and go see a band at a club you get a big black X on your hand with permanent marker.

redwingfan19 293 Report post Posted November 21, 2007 (edited) Thought I'd bring this thread back to life. Anyways going to the Joe for the Dec 1st game a against the Yotes and thinking about getting some grub and beers after the game to make the 1 1/2 drive home more enjoyable. I am so excited to go because I love Chili and the fact that it's Cheli's make it 10 times better. Anyways just want to know a little about the place just to know what to expect, such as atmosphere, prices, ect. Do you think it will be real busy after the game? any input would be good oh yea going to the downtown one. Edited November 21, 2007 by redwingfan19
