to tell u the truth, ive never like penner as a person..as a player yes but as a person know..ive met him, ive been around him plenty of times....hes cocky and arrogant....im happy burke didnt match, hes not worth that much...maybe in the future but not now....im not bitter, still enjoying winning the stanley cup.....

Good point, and it is true. I think it is pretty much the case for all fans. Love them when they play for your team, hate them when they don't. It's funny how simply changing jersey's can change the perception of so many people.

That's great that you got to meet Penner and all, but I guarantee if he came back to your Ducks, there is NO way you call him lazy or another Lupul-type player. My point was that just because Penner changed uniforms, he suddenly became useless.

I'm glad you are enjoying the Stanley Cup, and are not bitter about Penner. It must hurt you a little though that there are more people on LGW right now than there were at the Ducks victory parade.

I have to say of anyone on this board I have watched more Penner games by far.

Everyone of his games at Umaine was on tv and same with the pirates. So even if you watched every single ducks game last year you are still a ways behind me.

Penner is a work horse. How does a lazy player go from undrafted to worth 4.3 mil (yours, my eyes or Lowe's some one thought 4.3)!

i can't say i blame you, penner will not just fold in an oilers uniform.

lowe may have paid more than he should have but not necessarily because penner may keep a steady progression and this deal looks real good after a few years, especially in the new NHL.

the other key here is that penner hardly received ice time in anaheim's program and you can bet lowe will play him big minutes. penner scored more points as a rookie than anyone else with the same amount of ice time he was given. you are in complete denial if you think penner is going to join hemsky and horcoff and fall apart. he's going to receive top line minutes and make a BIG difference. you will eat your words so you're better off just admitting that you're a bitter ducks fan and sad to see penner leave the system.

as far as being cocky... who cares? i certainly would like to see star players be as humble as possible but if he scores goals for your team (or used to, sad for you he no longer will) and help lead the club to victories, he can be the biggest PITA on the ice and you can't deny his ability to carry your team. i bet you didn't care how arrogant and/or cocky he was when he was leading the ducks to the stanley cup. if you say you did, you've lost all credibility in my book, and i'm sure others' as well.

Adjusting Penner's goals and assists to Ryan Smyth's total ice time, you come out with 37 goals and 21 assists. If Penner can even get 30 goals and 20 assists, he's worth the money compared to what Smyth got.

Not to threadjack..but Smyth is seriously overpaid. I mean, 6m+ for a 31 year old player who has scored 70 points once, and it was 6 years ago? Smyth is not a defensive stalwart, he's not a top scorer, nor is he a power forward...what makes him worth better than 6m?

As stated by another poster, the only thing he did in Anaheim was get Scott N, who was coming anyway to play with his brother.

Now he has signed an injured and sub par Bertuzzi and an aging but great offensive defense man in Schneider.

Burke has 3 players currently on that roster that are signed beyond 08/09. Obviously that is a long time away and he will sign people in the next off season, but in two years that will be a completely different team.

OH BTW the three players he has signed are Giguere, Pronger, Allen.

I see your point with Smyth, that was stupid to just let him go (especially what he meant to that team and the city) it would be like the wings letting Yzerman go over 50k (inflation and pay increase).

Not stat wise or that they are the same player, but Smyth was starting to become that team and that city's Steve Yzerman.

It wouldn't be the same. Yzerman was an elite player in the league for most of his career. Smyth is not and likely never will be, yet he is paid as such. Penner is more likely to be an elite player on his current contract than Smyth is.

Very true, that is why I said not stat or play wise, I meant as far as being the leader and a guy that everyone got behind and supported. The city of Edmonton loved him and had he stayed there I would be willing to bet that he would have reached Iconic stature the likes of Yzerman in Detroit. But again, he is not the caliber player of Yzerman.
