Someone here at the office is offering up their tickets to this game. They are selling at face value of $182 a ticket (section 115, row 16). I thought that was a pretty steep price for a freakin exhibition game.

You'd be paying above face to get them anywhere else.

MacK, someone on XM was saying that Stralman has the potential to be the next Nick Lidstrom. What have you heard on him (I could have the name wrong too).

I'd say that while that statement seems ludicrous on the surface, the kid has the potential to be that good.

He plays a game very similar to that of Lidstrom and handles the puck on par with Kaberle right now. He's played three exhibition games and was the best player on the ice for either team in two of them.

He's got some adapting to do to the NHL game (angles, play in the corners etc.) but he has all the makings of a very special player.

I'd say he'll start the year in the AHL purely based on numbers, but he'll be a regular in the NHL by the end of the season. They just won't be able to keep a kid with that much talent in the minors for very long.

While I don't see him being on the level of Lidstrom in the grand scheme of things, he should be a top-pairing kind of guy. He just turned 21, so the next few years will tell the tale on Anton.

Thanks for the info.

One other thing, the same guys on XM were saying there might be issues with him and that he might leave to go back to Sweden. Is this true? And if so, is it over money or playing in the AHL?

Yeah, he's got a wife and infant child and I think he'd rather go to Sweden and make six-figures for the year and play in international tournaments and the such.

I think the Leafs will make it abundantly clear to him that he's the first call-up and he won't be playing the entire year in the AHL, if it comes to that.

The Leafs have toyed with the idea of keeping 8 defencemen, which I assume would be in the event that Stralman puts up the ultimatum that he stay in the NHL or go back to Europe. It remains to be seen.

I can't say I blame him.

I have 2 boys and it would take a LOT for me to cross the pond to play in a league far away from them.

Hopefully he gets the callup or can have his family move over.

He's already bought a condo in Toronto and the wife and kid are coming over in the event that he makes the Leafs.

It's a bit of peculiar situation, I just think it comes down to him not wanting to play in the AHL, like most European players. Whether it's money-related or whatever, I'm not sure. Of course, it may just be a ploy by Stralman (and quite probably, his agent) to give the Leafs extra incentive to keep him on the big squad.

Antropov on the top line is not a good move, even by Maple Leaf standards...he'll probably fall over and get injured from the wind generated by Blake and Sundin skating past him. Ponikarovsky needs to be the RW on that line, he's got size, speed, work ethic, and most importantly dominates in the corners...not to mention he played a lot with Sundin last year so I imagine they have some sort of chemistry.

Doesn't really matter I guess, they're not going anywhere until they revamp that defense...and offense...and GM...and ownership...

We have to pay full price for our tickets for preseason and can't give them away.

Antropov works well with Sundin and is nearly impossible to knock off the puck in the corners, just like Ponikarovsky. Those two are pretty interchangeable. Antropov keeps Sundin out of the corners in those battles for the puck, which is very nice.

With Blake and Sundin on the line, Antropov isn't relied upon to carry the puck down the ice at all, so he isn't the liability that he could be. Still, it would be nice to find somebody of higher quality to play with Sundin and Blake.

The defence is actually pretty good, is fantastic at moving the puck and joins the rush quite often. They gave up the 8th fewest shots in the league last year. Defence wasn't a problem....goaltending was.

Whether or not Toskala is the answer remains to be seen.

I read a foxsports review of upcoming Leafs players and some of them sounded pretty good (one guy in particular, I can't find the article to give the name). Are they not close enough yet or what? This lineup looks pretty similar to last year's.

Probably either Jiri Tlusty or Nikolai Kulemin. Both will be on the team next year.

I'm not prtetty sure about Jiri Tlusty... however, I followed Nikolai Kulemin during the past two years. I would say that you guys in Toronto have the best russian prospect playing overseas. Great hands, size, vision,...very close to Malkin, actually. I was really scared when we decided to draft Cory Emmerton when Kulemin was still available.

The organization is pretty excited about him. They said on the day they drafted him that they had him pegged as an early-to-mid 1st rounder, so they were ecstatic to grab him in the 2nd round.

The Leafs brought Battaglia back? That's news to me. Of course, he goes wherever Paul Maurice goes, so it's not a total surprise.

(keep in mind that I do like Battaglia, but it's a fact that he plays wherever Maurice is coach).

It's also fact that he only plays effectively for Maurice.
