One Last Pre-Season Game: Leafs @ Red Wings

Isn't that an automatic suspension for Newbury? Or do I not understand the tie-down rule?

I believe that it's up to the ref to decide whether or not the tie-down was properly attached.

Edited: It's covered in Rule 47.13. The player's jersey must be "not properly tied-down and loses his jersey in a fight"

He pulled a Maltby, except it was executed poorly and he wasnt far enough behind the linesman

Not that it matters considering he was jumped from the side. He popped the guy in front of him then Harrison dropped 'em and engaged. All things considered it didn't end nearly as bad for Igor as it could have. Took him a couple shakes to get the mitts off though. Not something he's practiced I guess.

Great game.. The Datsyuk line looks soo good, good to see Cleary getting his nose dirty early in the game and mad props for not turtling after Newbury jumped him, hopefully he realized that once he started to fight back it was pretty much even and gains a bit of confidence outta that. Loved Grigorenko's fiestiness, hopefully he learns to pick on guys a little smaller so he can hold his own lol.. I was really hoping to see Lilja go with Ondrus or even Newbury, he didn't fight but he played physical and got involved in a few scrums which is good to see. If Downey does make it as the 13th/14th forward and plays the odd game, and guys like Cleary, Drake, Lilja, Kopecky don't shy away from challenges I think overall that would be a huge improvement in team toughness

When you throw a shot at somebody you're absolutely fair game, thats not being jumped.

He's definitely fair game, but Harrison isn't the guy that Grigorenko glove-punched.

Totally agree ska. If Cleary and Grigs play like this alot more this season, we may not be as soft as we once thught.

Do you realize that if the major way to gauge how tough a team is is fighting totals the Phoenix Coyotees were the 2nd toughest team in the league last year?

That doesnt matter. When a teammate gets slugged, anybody has the right to respond. Thats defending your teammate. It wasnt vicious by any means dont get me wrong, but Harrison has every right to engage at that point imo.

I agree, but Grigorenko was still jumped, not saying it was the wrong thing to do by Harrison, but throwing punches at a guy who wasn't even looking at you is the definition of it.

It's really just splitting hairs, Grigorenko got what was coming to him, too bad he couldn't get his gloves off in time to respond.

The Yotes are a pretty tough bunch, just have no skill other then Doan and Mueller.

Im just saying I'd like Grigs and Danny to drop the mits in those situations, wouldnt you?

I'd go beyond saying that Harrison has a right to respond and say that Harrison, as a good teamate, has a responsibility to respond. Good men do not let their family members, friends or teamates get abused - especially not in a preseason hockey game that means nothing. This ain't Russia - if Grigs wants to be a chippy bastard he better either learn to fight or get used to getting his ass handed to him.

I just dont think jumped is the right word, the word jumped is associated with an innocent victim. It may be splitting hairs, but the fact the guy Grigs glove punched was facing him doesnt make any difference.

Igor took a poke (not a slug) face to face at a guy a full head taller than him. Igor isn't some feared fighter, so it's not like some goon picking on a smaller guy. If you're going to jump in and save your 6'4" 225lb teammate from a non-fighter at least spin him around and square off. Muir was in no danger from Grigorenko. Hell, Muir should have gone himself.

Muir is 6'4" 225lbs! Does someone need to jump in to protect Lilly if say Steen had taken a poke at him had they been jawing back and forth? People around here would have torn Lilly to shreds for having someone else fight his battles.

Unsportsmanlike 2 Min

Interference 2 Min.

Fighting major 5 Min.

Game Misconduct 10 Min.

Game Misconduct 10 Min.

 That's kinda bat-s*** crazy. Apparently Grigs had sex with the ref's Mom, because he certainly didn't earn 29 PIM in that 'fight'.

I'm guessing one of those Game Misconducts is a typo as I'm fairly certain you can only get one of those per game. I think.
