RedWings Gone Wild 6 Report post Posted October 1, 2007 nice that they're giving him that honor. Was wondering who would be losing the "A" when i saw this topic, but I'm relieved to see it will be rotating because I can't imagine Draper or Zetterberg losing theirs. StevieY9802 6 Report post Posted October 1, 2007 Kinda cool. Good for him. I am very happy he's here for the long term. After the lockout and how he didn't seem to want to be here and just wanted the money I am glad he stayed. As for the A though does it really matter when you are rotating between 3 guys. Its almost like we are doing this just cause Draper is here for a little while still and so is Lidstrom. But when one of them move on you'll get it.

Elshupacabra 0 Report post Posted October 1, 2007 Magic 8 ball. SWEET! I've often thought to myself: "I wish the Red Wings would base more decisions on the magic 8 ball." Good to hear they finnaly wised up!
toby91_ca 620 Report post Posted October 1, 2007 Awesome! How will they decided when to rotate it? I'm assuming 1 will be non-rotating with the other two rotating between home and away games, or they will simply each take turns without the "A"...2 games on, 1 game off, and so on for each. NeverForgetMac25 483 Report post Posted October 1, 2007 Why am I the only one that doesn't find this to be that great? I think both Z and Draper deserve the right to bare the "A" night-in and night-out. I'm just not a fan of rotating it between 3 players. It may be good to help distinguish Dats as a leader, but I just don't like it at the expense of Z or Draper losing it every third game (if that's the way they're going to work this). I guess i'm the only one who doesn't like this. I don't like rotating letters. Especially when you have 2 great alternates already, why strip it from them from time to time to give it to somebody else? Will it matter on the ice? Probably not, hence why I don't think its a huge deal, I just don't care for it. Hey mac, you beat me to it. Great minds think alike, huh. I always liked that the Wings only had 2 alternates unlike so many teams in the league. I'm interested to see how this will work out. Sparty13 0 Report post Posted October 1, 2007 I think Pav deserves it more than draper. Draper is a great penalty killer and 2 way player... But so is Datsyuk. He back checks just as well as Draper and scores 70 more points a season also. Perfect decision in my opinion. I'm glad they're rotating.

I didn't say I liked it, I was simply commenting on how they might work the rotation. Personally, I don't like the idea of rotating the letters, simply because there is a 3rd guy who may be deserving. I'm probably like you, I don't like it, but it doesn't really make that much of a difference to me. What I dislike a little bit more is when teams rotate the C around to various guys throughout the year.

Great minds think alike, huh. i think it's a good decision. datsyuk is cornerstone of this team. he'll likely be red wing for life. he's lead the wings in points the last three years and he's a team player. he definitely deserves the a. at the same time so do draper and zetterberg. so i think this is a good compromise. datsyuk should have it and neither draper or zetterberg should lose it, hence the rotating. I think you are a little confused as to the decision making proces that goes into deciding who would make a good alternate captain. Personally, I think Draper has more leadership qualities than Datsyuk, granted, I'm not sitting in room. Who is the better all around player on the ice is completely irrelevant. Take Pittsburgh for example, Crosby was not given the "C" because he leads the team in scoring. That probably forms part of the decision (rightly or wrongly), but he was given the "C" because he leads by example, works harder than probably anyone on the team, etc. If you look around the league, you'll find Captains who are role players and pretty low down on the scoring charts for their teams in some cases. You'll have other cases like Crosby for example, where you have super talents that will dominate offensively, etc. and are given the "C", but it's not because they are super talents. Because guys like this have so much talent, the spotlight is always on them and they are looked upon by their team, the league, etc. to lead...they are pretty much forced to be leaders and naturally develop those traits. bringback91 2 Report post Posted October 1, 2007 Eh, real leaders don't need a letter on the jersey. That's why I don't think any of the three of them will bat an eye at the other wearing it for a period of time. They all lead by example, and really no one knows how they act in the room or on the bench. Dats showed faith in the Wings by signing his contract and now there showing their faith in him, nothing wrong with that. As long as the C doesn't move and there's only 3 A's which is allowed by the way, I don't see a problem. It's not like it's going to be someone different every game. And who knows, maybe it doesn't rotate unless there is an injury. It's not so much of "stripping" it from someone as it is "sharing" the work load.
