Kp-Wings 3 Report post Posted October 2, 2007 This is fairly surprising news: http://www.freep.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article...1079/1053/rss17 The Wings' troubles selling out Joe Louis Arena during the playoffs have continued to new season. The team said Monday that tickets remained for the opener Wednesday night against the defending Stanley Cup champion Anaheim Ducks. Advertisement Prices are $9, $22, $44 and $54. Available at the box office and Ticketmaster locations, by phone at 248-645-6666 and online at www.detroitredwings.com. Interesting note: I had thought the $9 were only for preseason games. Apparently Illitch has finally decided to drop the ball and lower prices to reasonable accounts. This is surprising news. Last year, despite empty seats, we still sold out every regular season game. Now it looks like the trend of not selling out has carried over. Regardless, since tickets are cheap and still available, I've made plans to buy some. It'll be exiting for me, since I've never been to a home opener before.
SwedeLundin77 460 Report post Posted October 2, 2007 Even when prices are discounted for the first three months of the season, we still have trouble selling them out??? This just pisses me off. If I didn't have to work that night, I definately would be there in a heart-beat and I would bring every single friend or family member I could find. This is rediculous people, if you have nothing else going on and have $9 chilling in your pocket on Wednesday, than get your ass down to the Joe, show some support. There is no excuse, no Tiger's game to go to, no Pistons game, and no Lion's game either.... Let's get our asses in gear, Nashville has trouble with attendance, not the Detroit Red Wings. Quit the bulls*** and start spreading the word. Illitch has finally decided to lower prices, let's answer his and our team's call... FILL THE JOE!

Vladiator 116 Report post Posted October 2, 2007 Not trying to show obvious blame but I need to rant on this a little bit. The Unions are just messing up totally on this. So a person with no educattion, not even a high school degree can work at the big 3? And then they get to demand higher salaries and benefits because they are in a union?. Kind of funny how Michigan may shut down there services because of this mentality. Tlhank God I don't live in Michigan. Good luck on that. Blame the unions for what is gonna happen there. You voted them in, so now you get to deal with their consequenses.

Majsheppard 203 Report post Posted October 2, 2007 As far as I know, those $9 tickets are only available the day of the game. So maybe people are waiting? No the 9 buck seats are available in advance, but only from the box office at the JLA. You have to go down there to get them. Also I think they only let you get one game a month. I am waiting for someone to figure out that you can buy all of these seats at 9 bucks and try to resell them for the 22 bucks. That is how most sell outs seem to occur today. OsGOD 3 Report post Posted October 2, 2007 hmmm Michigan still sucks... new tax increases... well I for one have to work tomorrow night to put food on my families table... hockey comes 2nd... but I will catch the 3rd period.

OsGOD 3 Report post Posted October 2, 2007 (edited) i am glad they finally wised up and started only charging $9 for those sucktastic seats way up there. A lot better than the $22 i was dishing out last season for some games. In the e-mail i got they were only for Oct and November and then if deemed a good thing they would continue per month basis. However, you have to drive down the box office and working 9-6pm every day makes it impossible even being only a 1/2 hour away. Its all good though, i know i will catch some games this season... I am still waiting for the yellers to catch up to the $500 in games i dropped for the last post season alone... then we can talk Edited October 2, 2007 by OsGOD

How about we keep these ignorant, incredibly over-simplfied posts in the Political forums where they belong? As for opening game not selling out, I am shocked. Even with the Michigan economy and the other sports teams doing well, I still figured regular season (especially the first game!) was a gimme for sellout. Wow. Just wow. Even with all their extra charges. Many people either have their season tickets package or buy their tickets online. Its convienent in a world where we have to work 9-6pm everyday to put food on the table and pay the bills and im sure people would be willing to buy more tickets and take the family and friends that way instead of having to take time off, go down to the joe, buy the tickets, ect.... Think about it. 2- $22 dollar tickets.... Thats almost the equivelent of 5- $9 dollar tickets (even thought they only allow you to buy 2-$9 tickets at a time.), and if you take a wild guess, they're probably the same seats. If i had the time to go all the way down to the joe to buy the tickets, my dad, my friend, my boyfriend, my cousin and i all would have been able to go down to enjoy the game together, but i'm already going to be racing down to the joe on October 10th as it is because i have class all day and don't get out until 5 and live an hour away. Convience is key!!!!!! MAKE IT HAPPEN!!!!! Edited October 2, 2007 by redwingslady87

Anyone know if I can still buy tickets to the home opener even though itll be half over with?? I'm pretty sure you'd still be allowed to purchase tickets. I have got to go tomorrow. Most of my friends are working late so they can't go, but im going to ask my Dad. $9 a ticket to see the WINGS is something you do not pass up. redwingslady87 130 Report post Posted October 2, 2007 Tickets go down, price of concessions will go up. They will get our money, one way or the other.... There are certain things you can do to avoid spending a ton on concessions. Eat an early dinner and you won't have to worry about buying pizza , nachos, cotton candy, nuts and the whole nine yards. That really limits you down to getting a drink to moisten the throat after all the screaming. Yeah the drinks are pretty overpriced. 2.50 for a small pop was the price during playoffs last year, but you're only paying for a drink instead of a meal. Add up all the change I dropped on playoff tickets, exhibition games and even games early in the season (during the Tigers run) and I should have my own spot in the Party Deck suite. In all seriousness I can't believe a Wings home opener against the defending Cup champs isn't sold out. Lots of things factor into this.

Hey...It would be cool to figure out exactly how long it takes to get from Sweden - where I live - to the seat in JLA using "regular" transportation options. Meaning flight from Swe to somewhere like Amsterdam or London and from there to Detroit and then a taxi or something...Hmmm...
arnoldbuck 0 Report post Posted October 2, 2007 I live in BC, and I generally get to 2-3 games in Van a year, and I'm lucky if I find anything at $90. So, for $9, haha, well I just may take a trip out that way.
Kp-Wings 3 Report post Posted October 3, 2007 I've convinced a ton of people I know to buy tickets. I also plan to buy about 4 myself to treat my family to a game, since we're all huge Wings fans. It's time to start buy tickets people! If the Florida Panthers can sell out their home openers, there is no reason why the Detroit Red Wings can't. This is Hockeytown, so let's start showing our support!
