I thought he played for the Wings... I would just chalk that up to bad proof reading, I'm sure they meant to say FORMER....

C-TownWing 0 Report post Posted October 2, 2007 I would just chalk that up to bad proof reading, I'm sure they meant to say FORMER.... Really. If we're ever at a point where that qualifies as a "bad" ESPN oversight, we will have made significant progress with them.

toby91_ca 620 Report post Posted October 2, 2007 Ahhh, they simply just missed the word "former", not a big deal. If they had of written "Detroit Red Wings defenseman...", people may have been wondering why he was there, they were trying to establish his ties to the team and forgot a word...no biggie. auxlepli 17 Report post Posted October 2, 2007 Damn Kenny Holland for letting Cheli get away! Anyway people make mistakes all the time, and there's a ton of copy to proof for ESPN. That said, they tend to make more than their fair share, especially when it comes to the NHL.

SouthernWingsFan 854 Report post Posted October 2, 2007 The horror..... auxlepli 17 Report post Posted October 2, 2007 ESPN employees IMO need to do their job better, more objectively and without the self-congratulatory egoism. BTW I did give props to ESPN last week. http://www.letsgowings.com/forums/index.ph...t&p=1154027

The horror of it all..... /end extreme sarcasm I've never seen so many people in one place just ridiculously and overdramatically hate something as many members just overdramatize ESPN on here. Oy. May I introduce you to my best bud, SabsFan? She may be a chick, but holy cow, does she know her hockey. (my only consolation is that she IS rather rigid about some things-- so that I CAN occasionally call her out, but she's an idiot savant re hockey and usually trumps me. Argh). She loathes ESPN coverage of hockey, and, apres GD, will treat me to EVERY eejit thing said. I've learned a lot over the years from her, but... I don't get excited about the small details. She DOES. Strangely, it matters to her that people who make megabucks get basic facts right.

That's all nice and dandy, but I don't make the megabucks and certainly won't anytime soon, nor does she (I am assuming), so why get all riled up over the network then? Why waste all your time and energy then? If she cared that badly, write a letter to them, or get into sports broadcasting journalism or something. Your friend seems like a person that (1) would yell and scream at me for being so non-chalant about almost everything and (2) somebody that I would strangle after awhile for yelling and screaming at me for 45 minutes straight about such things. auxlepli 17 Report post Posted October 3, 2007 Maybe she's a journalist. By neglecting the "former" that photo caption is an Error in Fact. When I was at journalism school those weren't as bad as misspelling a person's name, which was an automatic 25-point deduction, but they were pretty bad. IIRC EIFs were maybe a -10, or -15. Now that's school, professionals are supposed to have higher standards. Maybe ESPN employees aren't professionals or maybe they just don't have any standards. You (and my buddy) may not make the megabucks, but you participate in activities which give other people the means to generate said bucks (ie, purchase cable). For the record, SabFan is more a bitcher slash moaner, not a yello-screamo. And you would seriously learn a lot from her.... but I do understand the urge to strangle her at times!
