Lou_Siffer 1 Report post Posted February 18, 2008 Someone should have challenged Ott today? He was running Pavel and Hank the whole game, and none of our guys had the balls to do anything about it. It was really sad to watch. Yeah really...especially at towards the end where Ott just tossed Zetterberg down after the whistle. That was really pathetic and saddening to see nobody do a damn thing. Ott was out there when the final horn sounded too, and again, nothing but a staredown. Holmstrom shouldve at least shed the gloves, just go for the slam for crying out loud...do SOMETHING. The closest thing to fighting from Homer since the brawl in 97, was when he tookdown Rivet in the playoffs last year. This is why I want a Darren McCarty or a Chris Gratton, these are crazy guys who will KILL YOU if you touch Zetterberg or Datsyuk.

Yeah the Rivet thing is what i was thinking of, he's also dropped them with Quintal in the past (double minors i believe) and i i think Jason Smith in a preseason game way back when. But my point is that even though he's not a fighter, its friggin' Steve Ott...youve gotta at least make an attempt. Seeing nobody do anything is the kinda crap that makes me disgusted. As much as I hate them, they have the right kinda team. I was watching the game tonight, and Regehr gives Perry (who is a HUGE ***** btw) a cross check, and Bertuzzi and Getzlaf come over and like attack him. But my buddy Owen Nolan () comes over and jumps on Perry and settles things down. We need guys like that. (Remeber back in the summer when I suggested signing Nolan, and got laughed at. Yeah, well whos washed up now!)

Even their guys who dont fight are willing to drop them when the need arises, our guys? Nope. Look the other way every time. I was beginning to have hope too earlier in the year, but nobody gives a damn about defending each other anymore other than Downey. Nobody going after Ott at that point was just dispacable to me...seriously. The game's over, send a message for cryin' out loud! (still in a bad mood if you cant tell lol) Oh, and yeah...i'd LOVE to have Nolan right now.
Detroit # 1 Fan 2,204 Report post Posted February 18, 2008 Even though there not very good, The Oilers are a pretty entertaining team to watch too. There losing to there rival Canucks, so what do they do? START LINE BRAWLS! Go after Trevor friggin Linden, Sam Gagner is dropping the mits. What I wouldnt give to see Zetterberg throw down and kcik the s*** out of Ott. Or anyone actually, Draper, Lidstrom, Holmstrom, anyone. If we had some tougher guys, Imagine what it'd be like. The Ducks, they have panzies like Perry, Weight and Marchant challenging guys to drop the gloves. But since they have Pronger, Parros, Moen and May on there bench, they play tougher. They figure they have their fighter now in Downey so it's all good. That position has been filled, time to go back to expecting someone to stick up for everybody instead realizing it's a team philosophy, much like Anaheim. One day they'll learn, probably as they're being bounced out of the playoffs again. MAC can't get here fast enough. esteef

They all need to see a plastic sergeon to get some work done on that ghostly outline where their balls used to be, because this is getting ridiculous. I thought things we're better this year, but obviously it isn't, and it's just going back to all those disgusting St. Louis matchups last season. Liberties taken, while everyone stands around and watches. It was that game where Ryan Johnson ran Hasek that I lost all respect for Lebda. Johnson, like Lebda, is a small guy who's not a fighter, yet Lebda stands around and does nothing to stick up for his teammate. Ridiculous. Oh... and by the way, I've had it with Lilja. I can't believe anyone would still like that guy after the way he's played lately. This "PAIN TRAIN" stuff is all a funny joke, but lately, it hasn't fit him at all. He plays like a damn flower out there. He was on the ice when Ott was taking liberties, but did he do anything about it? No. Of course not, this is the Red Wings we're talking about... the only team in the league that doesn't respect their own teammates enough to actually defend each other... I don't know how many times i've been bashed to death here for questioning our team's toughness or size. The "H" people will talk about how fiesty a guy like Cleary plays or how big a game Franzen plays or that Kopecky can hit and yadda, yadda. Then all you have to do is watch us get beat 5-1 and nobody does a damned thing. Go watch the Flyers or Ducks get beat 5-1 and see how their guys react. Or Cleary mans up and fights Pronger. That's all well and good until Danny gets injured and had to miss time while Pronger never missed a beat. And as far as physical play goes not all hits are created equal. You ever watch Cleary or Samuelsson or Hudler or Flip throw a hit? Every once in awhile there may be a connection like Cleary on Phaneuf but most of the time our guys hit simply to impede somebody. That's okay in a sense that if you break up the play then you've been effective. But when Phaneuf hits you he not only breaks up the play he might hurt you. That's what the Wings lack. A complete inability to hurt and or otherwise make teams think twice about roughing them up or taking liberties with them. I'll never understand why we have to be the team that always man's up to the bigger, tougher teams. Like we should be content that our guys stood up to the Ducks. f*** ALL THAT. I want to be the team with the bigger, stronger, nastier guys that other teams have to man up to. I'm sick of being the underdog. Just once I want an opponent to come in thinking they're going to have their hands full physically with the Wings.

He's had trouble finding takers since everyone he fights just wishes to grab and hold on for dear life. I don't blame him for being discouraged. With Barch and Winchester being scratched, Lilja didn't see any reason to fight, and probably didn't want to take liberties with Ott, although I agree that he should have jumped him anyway. Lilja is just too noble of an enforcer right now. He needs to show more of a mean streak. Hopefully tonight he'll shave that beard right off Scott Parker's face, so don't get discouraged Kp. It's hilarious watching even knowledgeable hockey fans here cite hit stats to illustrate that the Wings are matching up physically with other teams. For one thing, the hit stats the league keeps are kind of a joke to begin with. The home team's scorekeeper records them, so they're not much better than the 3 stars of the game. And the point of hitting isn't just to separate the player from the puck, it's to wear down your opponent. Your points ring true, GST.

Detroit # 1 Fan 2,204 Report post Posted February 21, 2008 Iginla and Ott just went. Calm down, Jarome took off the shield. I'd say win Ott only because Iginla lost his balance and just like the douchebag he is, Ott swings about 3 or 4 uppercuts while Iginla was down. Only a couple landed. Iginla, ala Captain Visor, is a douchebag as well, so don't stick up for him. Remember in last years playoffs he was trying to get Zetterberg of all people to drop the gloves with him? Anytime Iginla get's his ass kicked, no matter what the case, I'm happy. I hate that guy so much. The fact that Ott hit him when he was down just makes me even happier, since you know that Iginla would do the same thing (while hiding behind his visor as well). The headhunting Calgary did in the playoffs last year, orchestrated by the coach and Iginla made me lose all respect for Iginla. To headhunt in a game is unacceptable, no matter what team. Even Anaheim doesn't headhunt the way Iginla was ordering his team to.
