T.Low 1,011 Report post Posted October 20, 2007 This might be helpful: Northern Michigan has a video feed for all of their home games and some of their road games. It's only one camera, but it's video and I've heard the quality is pretty good. They synch it up with the radio play-by-play. It's $6 a game, but I think you can get the entire NMU season for $50, which isn't half bad. http://www.b2livetv.com/seasonpassselect.asp If I didn't have my own game tonight, I would've purchased the NMU/Michigan game. I'm debating if I'll do it for tomorrow's game since it's opposite Michigan football, the Wings, and the American Le Mans race. Butcher had an assist against Michigan tonight. Sweet. Thanks for the hot tip. Will be an easy sell in my household as my wife was a solid stay at home defensemen for a few years and Matt and Garth both helped her out a lot. She adores Matt, and misses going to his games as well. Thanks again.

Skiing - Puck 0 Report post Posted October 21, 2007 Michigan State vs. Northern Michigan, Oct 26-27 Anyone likely to go? Skiing-Puck? Our hometown (Bellingham Wa,) rink rat Matt Butcher is now a sophmore at Northern Michigan. Son of NHL defensemen Garth Butcher. Matt was number 2 in scoring his last year in the BCHL while playing for the Chiliwac Chiefs. He didn't get much time as a freshman at Northern last year but his minutes are increasing and he has two assists in 3 games so far this season. If anyone is going to the game, keep an eye on him. I think they play UofM in Marquette tommorrow night. In the BCHL, everyone wanted a peice of "Garth Butcher's kid" so he's a decent fighter and power skates like a freight train. Maybe I'm a little biased because I've tryed to defend against him and his dad and he is a much better skater than his dad. Just an outstanding young man. At half my age, I'd beat on him and try everything and after he'd score with ease he would then proceed to tell me how great I was doing. Class act kid. Takes after his father, nothing but praise from all the locals here in Bellingham. I wish him well and miss being able to see him play. If anyone goes to the game, I'd really appreciate a little recap. Thanks I will be at the two games this coming weekend. I can keep an eye on him for the two games at MSU. Oh by the way Red Wing prospect Justin Abdelkader looked great this weekend. He scored two goals over the weekend, and laid out some huge hits. On the second game against Colgate he was the number 1 star of the night, and had the game winning goal. The best part of the weekend was when Jeff Lerg stoned a Colgate player on a penalty shot. mannysBETTER3434 1 Report post Posted October 21, 2007 What are you doing as an intern? Nice job by the Spartans to sweep Colgate. There was a banner raising ceremony on Friday as well. I do a number of things. My main job is to make sure the game tracker on CCHA.com & CSTV.com are up and running with the correct stats, play by play, ect. At the end of every period I print the game tracker, along with a shot chart I keep, and bring them to both team's coaches, and media. Overall it's a real fun job, but can be stressful if the CSTV network is down, or stats get messed up. Hopefully I will be able to share some good stories here later this year. I already learned Bob Daniels chews longhorn during intermission!

Skiing - Puck 0 Report post Posted October 22, 2007 Too bad they don't let you fight in college hockey. Why didn't he play in the WHL? Actually some of the best fights I have see have been in college hockey. The players know that they are going to be sitting out the next game so they go all out and get they moneys worth. Last season at a Michigan State game against Alaska the coachs were in each otheres faces and about half of each of both of the teams were absolutly pounding the snot outa each other, including one MSU player smashing an Alaska plyers head into the glass repeatedly. Packer487 3 Report post Posted October 22, 2007 (edited) Michigan teams in the latest USCHO/CSTV poll: Michigan #3 MSU #8 Michigan Tech #14 WMU (8th in "Also receiving votes") Other CCHA Teams: Miami #2 ND #12 tOSU #19 Not that I'm not thrilled about the start Michigan has had, but that's higher than I want them to be in the poll. I loved that they came in 4th in the CCHA, with almost no expectations. I don't want that target on our backs at this point in the season. I still remember 2005-06.... That said, I'm friggin' amazed at what they've done so far this season. The most impressive part has been the team defense. They've only given up like 79 shots on goal through 4 games. And when you've got a shaky goalie, that's the best way to cover it up. Don't give up anything defensively. We can live with giving up 3 goals on most occasions. It's giving up 4+ that kills us. And BC? Get a new ice rink already. There's no excuse to have games canceled due to power outages/fog in 3 straight seasons, including back-to-back years with a game on National TV. That's just embarrassing. Edited October 22, 2007 by Packer487

That used to happen at Yost before the remodled it. They used to have the players come ot and skate laps trying to get the air moving because the fog would get so dence that you couldn't see the other end of the ice. mannysBETTER3434 1 Report post Posted October 23, 2007 I agree U-M is ranked too high, but if Sauer can play consistant that team can beat anyone no matter how many freshmen are playing big roles.

I don't think I've ever really seen a fight in a college game, and I've been to dozens of 'em. Every once in a while I've seen guys get into glorified shoving matches, but I don't ever remember seeing anybody take off their helmets and gloves and square off. T.Low 1,011 Report post Posted October 23, 2007 Too bad they don't let you fight in college hockey. Why didn't he play in the WHL? Bare with me, here, the draft process for hockey and all the different leagues has always confused me. Matt Butcher was one of five 15 year old Americans taken in one of the drafts a few years back. He was drafted by Vancouver. Then Garth got him out of the WHL and into the BCHL so he could retain his NCAA eligibilty. A year or two ago he had a really good Prospects camp with the Canucks, but for some reason I don't think he went this year. Personally, I am not playing in the beer leagues this year, so I don't see Garth nearly as much. I do know that his 12 year son Ben has jumped up to play with the 14 year olds and is tearing it up. Looking forward to your review next week, thanks again. May try to catch it on the net.

Skiing - Puck 0 Report post Posted October 27, 2007 Thanks. I'm afraid I have to choose Wings over Matt tonite. Wings on Yahoo. Maybe I'll catch Matt tommorrow on the net.. What do you teach? Michigan State won the game tonight 5-4, at one point MSU had a 5-1 lead, but squanderd it away with sloppy play in the third. Butcher is very solid on his feet and had some good solid hits at the end of the game he was taking most of the key draws for the Wildcats, but I do not think that he regesterd a point. Tomarrow night should be a good game and Abs had a goal and assist as well as about three HUGE hits. Oh, I teach a class called Outdoor Emergancy Care. It is basically the equivalent of an EMT basic, but more geared for winter enviroment (which is why Ski Patrol uses it).

BlakChamber 8 Report post Posted October 27, 2007 UM looks like they're off to a nice start this year, at least on paper. I can't watch any of the games. Who's in net for Michigan this year, Sauer? Nice to see the Spartans win, even if they did give up a bunch in the 3rd. The W is what counts.

He's had a great year so far, but I'm still expecting him to start his up and down play again like the previous 2 years.

Actully OEC is also used by alot of white water rafting companies because it also deals with water rescues. I was looking at the score sheet yesterday and Butcher got an assist on NMU's second goal on Saturday. Ferris upset ND 3-0, and U-M swept Boston U! Yeah BU is really has got to hate CCHA, after all last season it was a number tree seeded MSU team that beat BU in the first round of the NCAA's last season. Icer 0 Report post Posted November 13, 2007 Big matchup this Thursday and Friday between #2 Miami and #3 MSU. Thursday's game is on Comcast Local so check it out. Nice to see the CCHA represented in the top of the weekly hockey poll. They've taken a back seat to Hockey East and the WCHA the last few years but the conference now has everyone's attention after MSU's national championship run. #1 Michigan #2 Miami #3 MSU
Packer487 3 Report post Posted November 13, 2007 I'm still almost in shock at what Michigan has done at the start of the season. 9-1-0, with only 4 home games. Gotta get through this weekend at LSSU so I can start thinking about the Showcase. I'm probably going to drive back for that one....we need to get that monkey off our back against Minnesota and I want to be there if it happens. Should be an outstanding weekend of hockey. #1, #3, #10, and #12. Woot!
