According to Aftonbladet, Niklas Lidstrom is close to signing a two-year extension with the Detroit Red Wings. The Norris Trophy winner has been in negotiations with the Red Wings and a deal could be struck soon. "I can a lot well intend myself to extend and to continue after this season. I know myself still fresh in the body and is motivated," said Lidström to the Swedish News Agency. Lidstrom's contract ends after this season.

Not bad. That would take him to the end of his career, no?

but then again what's to stop chris chelios from letting lidstrom drink some of the babies blood he uses to maintain his health at such an old age?

That's beautiful news. No suprise though. Nick will retire in the Winged Wheel. And we will eventually see #5 in the rafters. Im just glad he's not gonna retire any time soon. Hopefully he plays till he's atleast 40(if he still has his game that is).

Yes please, get Lidstrom, Draper and Cleary all locked up now, use the rest of the cap to improve the team later in the season. (Dont bring up Zetterberg, he still has another year after this one of his contract.

So your gonna wait til' the last minute to lock up Z?

I think not, Holland will be on that this summer.

Did I say I'd wait till last minute? No, I think focusing on a Stanley Cup this year is more important, we have all of the upcoming summer and next year to re-sign Zetterberg, and from what I've read, he'd like to stay too.

It was reported by Spectors that Lidstrom could ask for up to 8M. Personally, I REALLY hope he takes a hometown discount. Not saying he should play for 4M or less, but something with a cap hit of 6.5M would be nice. Maybe 7, then 6? I realize thats pretty low, but the guys recieved top dollar for so long now that it would be nice if he recognized that guys like Hank, who has been better than Lids so far this season, should get their due.

Yeah, I forgot about the fact it has to be the last year of the deal before they can negociate. I have a feeling there wont be much a negociation though. Holland: "So, 6.8 per for 6 years?" Agent: "Done, he gets more then Datsyuk now!" :P

Well, i'm thinking it'll be in between $7-8 mill

Igilna got $7

Thornton got $7.2

Heatley got $7.5

Crosby got $8.7

I'd lock up Z now too. Who knows what kind of money he will command after another year - he is already on pace for +100 season, in which case one assumes he will be asking for Dany Heatley like money, 8.5 mill.

oh. woops

Didn't Lids tell some Swedish newspaper he'd play for the league minimum just to stay in the NHL? Obviously he was joking, but I really hope he gives us a discount. Signing Zetterberg is going to break the bank in a couple of years, and we still could use a true right winger or power forward on this team. I'd be ecstatic if he signed somewhere between 5-6 million. I'm expecting 6-7 though.

I imagine Lids will take a little paycut. If not then whatever, as long as he sticks around a few more years Im happy.

Get it done Kenny!

He could ask for up to 20% of the cap. That is a little over $10 per right now. Seriously though, $4 per? Are you nuts?! That'd be the steal of the century!! No way Lids signs for under $6.
