Coyotes place David Aebischer on waivers

Rate this topic

Recommended Posts

According to RDS.ca, the Phoenix Coyotes have placed goaltender David Aebischer on waivers after he lost the Coyotes three-way goaltending duel.

Where are all those people claiming he'd be the next Patrick Roy? Maybe that got to him. Being compared to a world-class whiner can dent a guy's ego and mess up his game. ;)

Didnt they draft Luke Richardson instead?

Great move leafs.

Yep.

They were so set on Joe Sakic that they had even told Joe before the draft that if he was still there when it was their turn to pick, they were going to pick him.

Then two years later, the Leafs go to select a Soviet forward in the 4th round, but a very senile (and nearly dead) Ballard said again that they were not to draft that player because there would "be no *bleeping* commies" on his team. So instead of picking Sergei Fedorov, they picked Matt Martin. That worked out well.

They've got some decent goalies in the 'burg. They need a veteran. I think they'd sign cujo before they'd get this guy. Besides that sourbroaun kid played great against carolina

CuJo is holding out for Ottawa to move Gerber and that would allow him to slide in to the back-up spot behind Emery.

I would think that Pittsburgh would probably be his #2 choice.

True, that said,..i still say they're looking for an older goalie to mentor Fleury. It paid off well with thibault, but now all they have are kids. There's options out there for them. La however is in trouble

I agree that Pittsburgh's best fit is CuJo, as there's not much left in the way of back-up veterans who can push the starter.

However, the best fit for CuJo is Ottawa because that's his best Eastern-based chance at a Cup.

there is no way a guy like Abby will stay in the AHL. He already has about 3 offers from Swiss teams and I am sure he'll get offers from Russia and/or Sweden.

It would be beautiful if he where to end up or had ended up in Pittsburgh. That team is going places and he is the right age to be part of that

I like Abby, and hope he lands another job, pronto. Always felt bad for him trying to follow Roy's huge presence in Colorado, it must have been pretty tough.

LA definitely would profit from his services, but as it's been mentioned, he won't go without employment for long, either in the NHL or Europe.

I'm sure he'll do well in Europe. If he is serious about wanting to be an NHL goaltender though, playing for an AHL team for the rest of the season wouldn't be a bad move. He could be a veteran influence for a prospect and prove that he can still put up numbers. If he has a great AHL season, someone in the "N" might take a chance on him again.

Here's the deal on Aebischer from this side of the world...

Statistically speaking, Aebischer was the weakest goaltender of the preseason, while Auld was the strongest followed by Tellqvist. Apparently he hasn't shown at practice why he should be the number one, so they're going to send him to San Antonio (where there's 8 games in the next 12 days) so he get some starts and get back on the Coyotes roster. They want to get him some playing time, even in the minors, so he can have a second chance to reestablish himself as a starting goaltender. Considering the Coyotes are still working with LeNeveu and Tordjman as their minor league goalies, I don't see Aebischer being down there for long.

I still think Pittsburgh is going to go after Bryzgalov and Gerber will go to LA. Anaheim is not going to trade Bryzgalov to a division rival and there is no chance in hell that Bryan Murray is stupid enough to solve Pittsburgh's one issue.

As far as Aebischer is concerned, I have a feeling he is going to be going back to Europe.
