Everyone who said Ellis shouldn't be up full time

If memory serves correct, he played last night on a line with Kopecky and Samuelsson when he scored that goal. Neither one of them strike me as grinders.

No skill? Yeah, guys with 4 pts and a +5 rating get there by being luck, right? <_<

Sorry not NHL calibre skill, and 3rd liner AHL skill. Did you not see the goals, one was a random backhand from that half boards, the other was being in front of the net and reaching behind him to tap it in. So yeah, I think luck has more than something to do with it.

GREAT! He EARNED it then didn't he? Probably after working hard in practice, impressing the coach and players and got his shot. We get it, you like him, we all have our favs, but nobody on the team did it without working hard. Ellis didn't cry and say I won't play in GR. Meeks isn't crying (that we know of) People don't seem to being take larger cheap shots on our stars because of Downy and Drake. We've all heard how good Grigs could be, now it's up to him to show us. As the current captain said "As with any rookie, you have to prove yourself to the team, coaches and management," Lidstrom said. "He has to work hard, that's what the other young players have been doing. He has to show he belongs here."

i didnt say grigs earned a spot...im just sayin that he deserves a shot at getting a spot, if he plays s***ty then i dont want him on the team, i would rather have downey fighting someone then

I've always liked Matty. Always. Thought he should of been a regular a few seasons ago. He plays his ass off with the very limited time he gets and thats really all you can ask of him. Babs will play him more and more if he continues to play the way he has.

Lucky goals or not, the guy still scored. Don't hate him for putting the puck to the net and having good things happen as a result.

Goals aside, he's still got two assists and has shown that he isn't a defensive liability with his positive rating, something that further accentuates that work ethic, not luck, is the reason Ellis has been working out. He's not Pavel or Hank, but at a $475,000 salary, I believe he's doing well for himself.

Part of the problem is the stupid waivers rule. I think that teams should be allowed to develop their players without having to worry about other teams stealing them in transit to the minors. I know the players union has that in place to try to get their players as much money as possible and to make it to the NHL, but if a team owns your contract, they should have the freedom to send you to the minors without someone snatching them up.

For instance, you get Franzen back and want to send Ellis or Downey to Grand Rapids, next thing you know they're on a Bus to Columbus and your investment is gone. I don't like it. The rule might be positive for the players, but it isn't for the teams.

It's too bad players couldn't voluntarily opt out of waivers. I think the only way you can is if you're a Group III Free Agent who signs a two-way deal.

Well, some guys are just lucky. Look at Robataille, for example. Do you really think his play reflected his stats?

Of course, I still haven't seen one damned Wings game all season, so my comments aren't really all that valid. <_<

I'm not hating the fact that he is scoring, I'm just stating that he isn't that talented, and IMO we have more talented guys in GR than him. I never said he wasn't a hard worker, but a hard worker with no talent is just a hard worker.

you will never,..ever,..ever,..win a stanley cup with only guys who are pure skill.

Every Stanley Cup champion dating back as long as I can remember had one guy on there who did nothing but work his ass off every shift.

Ellis plays playoff hockey in October,..if he's still doing it in June, he should have a place on this team.

Ellis does have talent. He's a pretty good skater now and a decent shot, it takes ALOT of skill to make the NHL, I dont care what anyone says, to be in the NHL you have to be talented, goon, superstar, 4th line plugger, they all had enough talent to make the NHL.

Huh, and yet Dino "the garbage man" Cicarelli made a whole career of it.

How does a topic about Ellis all of a sudden have something to do with Igor.

I don't think there's a thread in this board that hasn't been hijacked in some way.

I say give the kid his due. He plays hard and has some skill. Who knows, he just might be this years surprise scoring threat. :)

And a small add on to what you are saying, seeing you avatar made me think, was Homer really that much better than Ellis in his first couple of years. I know Homer has become a great player in our hearts and minds, but let us not forget what he was before he got to this point. Playing with the professor helped him some, but playing with D and Z took his career to a new level, and the confidence he got from playing with them is starting to really show the player that Homer really can become.

I expect Homer to have a career year this year. But the point is, you never know what this guy can become if he has the right people around him and he develops a little confidence. I would love to have another Homer type player development story.

Good for me though because I picked him up as a FA in my fantasy league.

But you need guys that work hard with skill. I'm not trying to knock the guy. I just dont think we need to develop ANOTHER 3rd liner. We have like 8 of them right now, we need a skilled hard worker who is a 2nd liner.
