auxlepli 17 Report post Posted November 10, 2007 DETROIT -- Where Michigan-Ohio rivalries are concerned, games involving the Detroit Red Wings and Columbus Blue Jackets will never approach the passion and intensity surrounding the annual college football clash between the Wolverines and Buckeyes. Hard to predict the future is. Who knows, hockey just might become the most popular sport in states one of these days. I can dream. IMO one should never say never. betterREDthandead 58 Report post Posted November 10, 2007 Michigan and the Poison Nuts only play once a year. The Wings and Jackets will play 6 or 8 every season, and would need several Wings-Avs-style playoff series to even approach that level. And even then, Wings-Avs flamed out somewhat. Michigan and the Horse Chestnuts play for Big Ten supremacy damn near every year - the parity in the NHL will definitely prevent that kind of dominance from the same two teams for 60 years the way it is in Big Ten football. LeftWinger 5,152 Report post Posted November 10, 2007 ...well talk about comparing apples and gold nuggets!!! One thing the author of that statement neglects. Also, BTW the NHL neglects the same thing, Michigan/Ohio State is one of the olderst Rivalry's in NCAA. Why? HISTORY, TRADITION, ORIGINAL BIG TEN SCHOOLS! In no way can a team that is barely a toddler in this league have a rivalry with an origianal 6 team. Hey Bettman, you want rivalry, move Detroit East, put them in the same division as Toronto, Montreal, Boston or NY, you want rivalry that sells arena's out? You want rivialry's that, well, rival Michigan/Ohio State or Notre Dame? ORIGINAL SIX!!!!! Damn you're so stupid!!!
Kp-Wings 3 Report post Posted November 10, 2007 That is such a horribly obvious statement.
Grittzkey 1 Report post Posted November 10, 2007 agree with statement. cbj/det never ever never hockey will never be the same. anyway, CHI/DET will prolly have an upcoming rivalry again for one reason.Kane/Toews will re-jevunate the hawks. one of our players "downeydrakekopeckymaltby" will really crack one of there heads in and that will spark the rivalry for years to come... i can hope right? Guest GordieSid&Ted Report post Posted November 10, 2007 Hard to predict the future is. Who knows, hockey just might become the most popular sport in states one of these days. I can dream. IMO one should never say never. As a hockey fan first and as an Ohioan, I can think of about 900 other things i'd rather do after watching hockey that come before watching college football. That being said, not much compares to a Michigan OSU tailgate weekend.

seeinred 1,488 Report post Posted November 10, 2007 The statement is completely accurate. QFT. I love hockey and specifically the Wings more than life itself, but no rivalry in American sports approaches Michigan-ohio state.
