Flyers willing to trade J Carter for defensive forward

Darren Dreger reports the following:

- The Philadelphia Flyers might be using forward Jeff Carter as trade bait for a defensive minded forward, and might be interested in Vancouver Canucks forward Ryan Kesler, whom they attempted to sign to an offer sheet in 2006. It's believed however the Flyers also want more in return but if they're seeking one of the Canucks top prospects then Vancouver GM Dave Nonis won't bite.

Spector's Note: Carter presently sits fourth in Flyers scoring with 11 points, and his 942K salary is half as much as Kesler's and certainly affordable for the Canucks, provided of course the Flyers aren't seeking too much else in return. Now it remains to be seen if anything comes of this but at least this rumour is a plausible one, the first one of this season

i cant believe theyd even consider this , this cant be true ..... if it was though i would go after this kid so fast

daniel cleary and derek meech for carter, would that even be a possibility ?? i know clearys been awesome but to get something good you gotta give up something good , carter is only 22 .... cant give a maltby whos career is over

anyways what are your thoughts , would you want jeff carter ?

Unless Carter has inoperable brain cancer I don't see him going for Kesler.

Jeff Carter is a great, great young player.

If the Flyers are truly shopping him around I certainly hope the Wings are looking into acquiring him.

If Kesler is someone that interests them then I would hope that Filpulla is a viable option. Maybe even a package with Franzen somehow.

Carter has 90-100 point talent. He just needs the right ingredients around him. And I for one would absolutely love to have this kid on my team. He fits the mold as far as the Canadian offensive player I've been praying for the Wings to grab.

Cleary and a prospect or pick for Carter? WHERE DO I SIGN?

I love Danny Boy but let's just look at it for a moment.

Scoring=they're about equal

Defensive play=Cleary is older, wiser and a better defensive player. However, when you can send out Datsyuk, Zetterberg, Filpulla, Franzen, Draper, Drake or Maltby to play D and kill penalties, you can afford to give up Dan Cleary.

Potential=Carter is 22, 'nuff said.

Plus, Carter is a big boy, 6-3, 200 lbs. He'd be another nice young centerman to go with Filpulla as Drapes is getting way up there in age and Dats will be 30 in July. Be nice to have 2 NHL level centerman in their early 20's to pass on the torch to.

From what little I've heard/read about him he's got the potential to be a top-notch forward...Holland won't do anything since he's in love with Draper, & Maltby (not that Philly wants these 2, but you get my point) <_<

Unfortunately, yes.

I understand what Holland's thinking. You don't want to break up a successful core.

But in my opinion (and it's entirely possible I'm wrong) most Wings fans want a young North American kid to hang their excitement on. I think Carter can be that player. He's only 22 and I believe he has more offensive potential than Filpulla (debatable).

But I'd love to have him on this team.

We're so weak in center prospects it's sickening. I guess Carter's kind of past being a prosect, but there needs to be something done youth-wise at that position in the near future.

I think too much emphasis gets placed on trying to maintain the status quo when things are going well. Any good GM, if the opportunity comes to make a deal that can make your team better, you do it even if things are going well. Creative people, smart people, people who are winners don't rest on their laurels. They keep digging under every rock and pursue any chance no matter how remote, to improve their situation.

The Wings aren't too bad at center. It's the RW that's in need. LW is in good shape.

Eh, I don't know. Past Filpulla who is there? I wouldn't bank on Emmerton. Andersson is intruiging, but he's too young to tell. You're right though, the right wing needs some help too.

I agree with this statement. I predict Fillpula to be a carrear second liner with some defense awarness a la a faster michael handzus, while carter may one day be a 30 goal 50 assit guy.

Noooo... Not Filppula!

I waited for a long time to see fellow Finn play in the Red Wings. After years of watching Russians and Swedes, Valtteri made history. And you guys can't wait to trade him away for Jeff Carter of all people. <_<

I know I'm biased, but it's my right to be like that. I've paid my dues, having to listen my friends accuse me for rooting "team Sweden" in the recent years.

And btw,I thought every player (besides the obvious ones like ZDH,Lids & Rafalski) had absolutely zero trade value.

Let's keep it that way,at least in Filppula's case. No one would want him.

Filppula, Franzen, Kindl, and a 2nd round pick for Carter.

It may seem like a lot, but Jeff Carter is what this team desperately needs: a big, physical player with scoring potential. He's a perfect example of an up-and-coming power forward. The Wings need a player like him, and he'd be someone that I wouldn't mind giving up a lot for.

Here's hoping something get's worked out with the Wings and Flyers. He'd be a great fit here.

Franzen, Filpula, Kindl, 2nd rounder, Ryno for Carter, Richards and Coburn looks like a pretty good deal to me :D

Bobby Clarke is in love with Kesler, he says that he's the "shutdown" forward that the Flyers need.

I'm starting to hate trade proposals as they always seem to include your favoruite player. Why would people want to trade Flip, does't make sense to me. I know you've got to give to get but I hate the idea of it. Thankfully Babcock rated Flip so highly so he'll never let him leave. :D

Uh... we have way too many centers on this team.

dats, hank, Franzen, Draper, Kopecky, Filp... Hudler and Cleary were originally centers as well iirc but its been a while since they've played it.

Anyways, Carter is a good player, but I wouldn't give up too much for him. We have a strong core and we don't really need another center in any case. Filp for Carter might be acceptable, but anything more than that is iffy. Filp has already proven himself to be an extremely responsible defensive player, and you can see the offensive talent starting to emerge.... I guess I just don't like trading away a player that I know is pretty good and has a lot of potential for a player I haven't seen nearly as much. But perhaps some of you folks with center ice know better than I do in this case.

I would love to see Carter in the Winged Wheel. But there's no way I would give up Cleary for him.
