GMRwings1983 8,804 Report post Posted November 22, 2007 Well, for years they've had the best minor league team around, so maybe this new coach knows what the hell he's doing. They've been a huge disappointment so far after making what I thought were several good moves in the offseason. The NHL needs a good team in Washington, so I hope they turn it around. datsyukonethree 0 Report post Posted November 22, 2007 I was at the game last night and while I wasn't on the "Fire Hanlon" bandwagon before, I certainly was when I left. The defense made horrible decisions with the puck, Alex Ovechkin is a poor choice for powerplay quarterback, and the line combinations don't make effective use of the team's talent. Hanlon was great at getting the young guys to work hard, but the team's outgrown him. They need someone with a more disciplined approach, someone who can tell Ovechkin to be more mindful about turnovers and tell Kozlov to dish the puck rather than skate until he's run out of options. Trading players is not the answer here. The coaching change will definitely be good for the team.
Viperar 16 Report post Posted November 22, 2007 Mediocre goalie... mediocre coach. (not that the two are related... I'm just saying..) do you actually know that Kolzig is mediocre or are you just going by the stats posted on nhl.com? Kolzig is a more than capable goalie who can hold his own if they have a half decent team playing in front of him. Kolzig and Ovechkin are the only ones showing up for that team at this point. You wanna talk mediocre, lets bring up the defense, or players like Kozlov or Nylander who arent doing anything...Kolzig is far from mediocre
wingslogo19 281 Report post Posted November 22, 2007 I guess it was only a matter of time before he was fired. Best of luck to the new coach

Because I meant: Hanlon was a mediocre goalie (back in the day..) and now he's a mediocre coach.

12Newf 0 Report post Posted November 22, 2007 washington's defense is abysmal. i saw them play against the sens last year so i could see ovechkin and i ended up only watching the defense because it was the worst i had seen in years in the nhl. they have a pretty solid offence now with ovechkin, nylander, semin, and kozlov leading the way so there is no reason for them to be in last place. hanlon should have been fired weeks ago IMO. if that team doesnt start performing, ovechkin will be gone before too long.
