The Red Wings are in another position to win 10 games in a row, hosting Edmonton, Florida and then the Washington Capitals in the next week. A day off in-between games, so there's a good opportunity here to continue WINNING, and a great way to head into the break (despite having 7 games left before January).

To be honest, I couldn't care less. They are going to get into the playoffs and whether they are in position #1 or #8 makes no difference to me. They may get a weaker opponent by finishing better in the regular season, but they have to get through the toughest teams at some point. If they go out in the 3rd round, that wouldn't be anymore satisfying than a first round exit for me. If they lose in the Finals, I suppose that would be a little more satisfying, but I think we all know what the goal is.

I'd be lying if I said I didn't care at all about the regular season, I love watching and I love tracking stats, but whether the Wings win 10 in a row, etc., doesn't really matter unless they are going to break some records, which I don't think is happening.

It's not about being too serious about this, its about it being unimportant. At the end of the year, whether the Wings win the cup or not, are you seriously going to care if they won 10 games in a row from the end of November to mid December?

I don't really care, and while it would be nice, I'd be willing to bet the players don't care about it that much either.

See, I feel differently. Last year's playoff series against the Flames and Sharks were both entirely more satisfying than the previous years 1st round series against the Oilers. Alot of big plays and found memories.

The NHL needs to get working to ensure what a team does in June is limited to contract negotiation, etc. (i.e. Stanley Cup awarded in May)

Actually, ten wins IS important. That would give the Wings some serious cushion in the standings, and allow some screw ups down the road without hurting anything.

Wow, you people need to learn to stay on topic, the OP definitely asked the Red Wings faithful if we believe the Wings could win ten straight given the next few teams we are playing. He didn't ask if it was relevant, he didn't ask about our recent playoff performances. It seems only Nephilim stayed on topic beside the first couple posters.

With that said, I believe the Wings can easily make it 10 straight, they also could be able to win their next twelve after that! With the bulk of the games against the Blues and Wild, and although they do play the Avs a couple times along with Dallas, but i think they are a lucky 16-12. The only team i see as a threat is Chi-Town and I can see us losing to the Senators.

You could say the same thing about Hank scoring a hat trick, or Ozzie getting a shutout, or if Downey beats up TooToo. Sure, those things aren't near as important as winning the Cup, but that doesn't mean they don't mean anything! All players want to play well, and they want to win as many games as possible, and they feel proud when they beat a record that has been standing for a long time.

Heck, if all I cared about was winning the Cup and nothing else I wouldn't even watch the regular season!

Personally, I think it's great whenever the Wings break player or team records. It was a lot of fun watching Hank break the longest scoring streak for a Red Wings player to start a season! You feel proud when they beat another record, because it means your team or player is playing extremely well. I love that the Wings still have the record 61 wins in a regular season. Sure, I would have rather them won the Cup that year, but at least we were left with something to be proud of!

Sure, its nice and it helps in the standings, but I was referring to this magical number 10 that the Wings have yet to attain. I just don't see it as this huge deal that some others do. I see number 10 as 20 points that gives the team some breathing room. Nothing more.

But just so Konnan511 doesn't go apes***, yes I do feel the Wings could win the next 3 and possibly more given their schedule over the next few games.

Shorten pre-season and start regular season earlier. There is also no need for 5 to 6 day layoffs that I have seen some teams go through. I know making a schedule is difficult, but surely they can put something together that gets 82 games in quicker, even if the start date isn't moved.

The obvious solution is to shorten the regular season, which makes a lot of sense, but I don't necessarily like it. I'm saying this from a fan perspective. I love stats and they wouldn't be as comparable anymore. Scoring 100 points a season in 70 games is more difficult than in 82 games. Of course, seasons used to be only 70 games in the not too distant past. Even 50 games if you go back far enough.

The thing that would really keep that from happening is lost revenues. While revenues may likely stay the same, or potential increase (I won't get into the logic), those running the league are probably too closed minded and they will look at "less games to sell tickets to = less revenues"

Last year we got an extra month+ of great playoff hockey. And the Red Wings, eventhough they came in top ranked, had to go through the three toughest teams in the playoffs, the Flames, the Sharks, and the Ducks, and they were a bounce, a call, and a flop away from putting the champs on the golf course. We watched Datsyuk step up after his contract, Lidstrom deny Grier on an empty net, Filppula blossom into a young star, and Dan Cleary become a bonified stud. Year before: we lose to a team of cheapshot artists while being heavily favored in the first round, leading to the retirement of the Captain and later the departure of Shanny.

I hear what you're saying, and I understand, when it is all said and done, a year without the Cup is a disappointment. But I would rather enjoy an entire season and post season of success than nay say until the final minute of the clinching game of the finals. We are lucky enough to have a team thats in the mix every season. Imagine being a Toronto fan, or Bruins fan, or a 1970s Red Wings fan. We are lucky and should enjoy success as it comes.
