It's called clearing $3.5 mill cap room to sign Corey Perry. Obviously they got ripped tho...

Wow...this came out of nowhere. The Blues got the better of this deal. Weight is in the twilight of his career. Where as Andy McDonald still has potential to reach. Bad move by Burke.

It's called not putting yourself in that position in the first place by making absurd off-season signings (Todd Bertuzzi anyone?)

Exactly.

This seems like a REALLY odd move.

Link anyone? I tend to be the guy who doesn't believe in these things till TSN reports it.

edit - is this Strickland guy credible?

No link yet - but TSN just confirmed it on 'Thats Hockey'.'

Burke is retarded - but it might not be just to make room for Neidermeyer. Selanne too?

Nevermind - McDonald makes 3.88, Weight makes 3.5. What a strange deal, that doesn't even clear the room for Neidermayer - he needed $ 880,000.

Burke is as overrated as they come.

Yes, he's so overrated he shouldn't even be wearing that 2007 Stanley Cup ring on his finger.

He knows how to build winning programs. He's proven that in more than one place now. He's not overrated. However, he is trying to maneuver after some questionable moves.

Of course I love Ken Holland and think he's a fantastic GM but anybody remember Uwe Krupp? There's been other blunders.

One trade does not a GM make.

By the way, Shawn Mattias just signed in Florida. 6-3, 215 lbs and playing for Team Canada in the upcoming WJC's I believe. I'm kinda wishing we still had him seeing as how Bertuzzi didn't exactly pan out. But hey, I wouldn't call Kenny overrated because of it. Likewise I wouldn't call Burke overrated seeing as how he's a proven winner and the current reigning Stanley Cup champ.

If this is true, there has to be some picks or a prospect or two involved here too, or the return is very puzzling!

That would be the motive i'd think....i dont think anybody actually believed Corey Perry would have 17 goals already at this point in the season. He could easily end up with mid 30's or even 40, which means he's going to command significantly more than planned. I understand the trading of McDonald, i just dont get the return at all.

I think Burke is pretty smart but I do not like him at all.

The more important thing, though, is that the Wings now have to face Kariya and Macdonald together 8 times a year at least.
