Wings tie mark of 95-96 team

Detroit, which has won 10 of its last 11 games, improved its record to 25-6-3 and tied the franchise record for fewest games (34) to reach 25 wins, set previously in 1995-96.

Do you think this years team could top 62 wins? I doubt it, but I wouldn't say never.

It's really just amazing. I remember that year when we set the all time best record. And I remember thinking that it would never be broken. In fact most of me still thinks it will never be broken. But if one team can break the Red Wings record, it's the Red Wings. And from the looks of things, it's very possible that we beat the record this season. Im not super confident that we will. But it sure is possible.

Meh...I just want them to do well in the play-offs. It's fun that they're always among the dominant teams during the regular season but I really want a Cup again and hopefully this is the year...

This is the shootout era so it certainly makes things easier. 4 of those 25 wins were shootout wins. Back in 95-96 those were ties. I certainly expect Montreal's point record to go down in the next few years now that you get loser points.

I'm actually scared that this team might break that wins record, and then we'll have even more pressure in the playoffs to win. The Wings have had the most points in the league the last 3 seasons and missed the finals each year. 4 straight years of this would just be too embarassing.

Exactly, the shootout era gets its own record separate from the non-shootout era. The 62 mark is set in stone for that reason.

Who cares how many games they win? Does anyone remember how bitter the taste in your mouth was when they didn't win the Cup after winning 62 games?

The more regular season wins without a Cup win, just makes it more disappointing.

I don't care if they win 82 games, if they don't win the Cup, it doesn't matter.
