akustyk 84 Report post Posted December 31, 2007 every team that makes it to playoffs. Round 1 is for obvious reasons: low seeded teams often don't aim to go deep in playoffs but want to "show'em" and beat the better (on paper) team. therefore they fire on all cylinders and if your team is not putting all the effort (sparing some forces for later rouinds) this can get painful or end up with disaster. Round 2 is usually a bit safer because you face a team that is already more bruised and if it's one of those flukey teams it may also be less eager to win more. still, there's no easy win here Round 3 used to be the cup-winning round for strong teams in West. this doesn't have to be the case again but should Wings meet a "bold" team in WCF this is the ultimate moment to put all effort and fire on all cylinders. in this case healthy and motivated Wings are basically unbeatable. maybe the Ducks have some chance here but it depends on how they build chemistry before playoffs. for now it's the Wings. SCF: I think Wings win it if they get that high. at this level they're just to good and too experienced to lose. bruised Wings may lose to Marty Brodeur if Devils find their groove but other than them... it'd take a really hot and flukey team with some goalie pulling a Jiggy to challange Wings. sure, no one can be taken lightly at this stage but I'd definitely put my money on Wings once they go that deep. they have this mental strenght to reach for the ultimate prize not just win the West. Earthhuman 8 Report post Posted December 31, 2007 The Rangers can still pull their season together. Drury needs to get going, and then they have a Finals team. Their young defense is really shaping up. For the record, Drury scored to keep the Rangers in the game.

LeftWinger 5,153 Report post Posted December 31, 2007 ...who do we fear? No other team... ...Who do I fear? I fear our own team. I fear that we'll see another self-implosion like we are all too used too. Western Conference Finals won't do it this year, if we don't at least make it to the Cup final (and not get swept) then we had a disappointing year. This team can beat anyone, even itself, that is what I fear...
SouthernWingsFan 854 Report post Posted December 31, 2007 Who the hell knows how teams will be once the playoffs start in April, but in all likelihood my opinion will be of the same of any team with a hot goaltender. Generally speaking, the difference between the #1 and #8 seed (at least in recent seasons) has not been all that great. No series is a guaranteed 4-game sweep or easy 4-1 series win. That being said though, the Red Wings have obviously stood out in a positive way lately. Much like last year, I hope we've come to know them as not backing down or cowering from physical play like perhaps they have done in recent past. They aren't going to be the most physical team out there again in all likelihood, but if they have secondary scoring from 2nd/3rd liners in Samuelsson, Flipper, Hudler, Franzen etc. in the season that matters most, they'll have just enough of everything I think. They definitely have the offense/special teams to compete, a defense that should be able to keep up as long as you don't have too many speedy skaters on one team, confident goaltending in either Hasek and/or Osgood, and a willingness to not necessarily dominate physical, but to definitely take the punishment and even dish out some hits here/there. At least now I think, the Wings have one of the better all-around teams that can contend for a Cup. If they can just pepper away shooting at other teams and keep the opposing goalie on edge, good things could happen.
