Turkey 0 Report post Posted January 2, 2008 TSN Story I think this is great actually. I've liked Babcock ever since we brought him in. Nice to see him get the honor.

JeeSpot82 10 Report post Posted January 2, 2008 It also means that he'll be able to participate in the selection of players who aren't voted in as starters, meaning that Osgood has a chance to appear as a backup. And if he wasn't hurt, Homer.

And if he wasn't hurt, Homer. Ah, but will he send his 1A goaltender to a meaningless game where injury is a worry, or will he keep as many of his players away from this game as possible and put key players of other playoff teams in the game? Oh, Babs, you genius.
gcom007 1,465 Report post Posted January 2, 2008 It also means that he'll be able to participate in the selection of players who aren't voted in as starters, meaning that Osgood has a chance to appear as a backup. And if he wasn't hurt, Homer. I don't think Babcock has a say in that sort of thing though I could be wrong. It's a shame because due to Lids, Zetts and Dats he probably won't go just b/c of team diversity issues. Who knows though...he certainly deserves it. Sure, he's playing in front of a great team and some nights he has to do little work, but so has Hasek and he hasn't put up close to the same kind of numbers or record as Osgood has this year. I'm not trying to knock Hasek by saying that, but it illustrates just how great Osgood has been this year. Osgood hasn't had a bad game and has basically done his job flawlessly. I think that's the biggest thing. I really don't think he's played a single bad game and there's been so very few goals he's let in that he should've had. Again, he's been as flawless as can be reasonably expected this year. I've always thought higher of him than most around here but even I'm surprised and impressed by his exceedingly great play this year and he just doesn't seem like he's doing anything but continuing to turn it up. It's going to be tough to ignore one of the most talked-about players of the season with the best record and as of now best GAA and SV%. Here's hoping they give credit where credit's due. The All Star game may mean nothing in the grand scheme of things, but it would be a huge honor and worthy nod for Osgood at this point in his career.
gcom007 1,465 Report post Posted January 2, 2008 P.S. I really hope they don't get impulsive with Babs if they don't win a Cup in the next couple of years. I'm no pro and I don't know the inside scoop on everything, but from my perspective, he's been a great coach and one that I'd like to see behind the Wings bench for a long time to come. puckloo39 5,686 Report post Posted January 2, 2008 Before a couple of other posters that have said this already about 40 billion times come in here and kill you guys.... ASG Coaches do not have a say in who plays and who doesn't. Alternates are chosed by NHL Hockey Operations. I wouldn't be surprised if the coaches and others are consulted, just due to the political nature and PR aspects of the game (ability and stats don't always count for much in the end), but don't be disappointed if Babs doesn't make this happen with Ozzie. I am glad for Babs, it's a nice honor, even though he said it messed up his plans for a ski trip.

The guy has been one of the best coaches in the league since he's entered it, and he's got a long, promising future ahead of him. I hope he stays with the Wings, Cup or not, because his work ethic is passing onto the players. The WIngs would not be known as the hardest working team in the league if not for Babcock. As far as I can tell from the outside this is the case and I agree with it all. I really hope he sticks around Cup or not. Something about him...he just looks like a Red Wings coach. Best coach since Bowman? Is that saying much considering that we had only 1 coach in between the two?
LeftWinger 5,153 Report post Posted January 3, 2008 (edited) The coaches don't have say in that decision. ...so how does the rest of the team get picked then? As long as I knew, the coaches picked the reserves. ...and when he does pick, Osgood will be going, but that is the last Red Wing, that will make 4... ...I hope he snubs Pronger... ...the other goalie should be Leclaire out of Columbus... ...as for our next coach, if ever Babcock leaves, Larionov will fit the bill nicely! Don't get baseball confused with Hockey, in baseball the manager fills out the roster, in Hockey as stated by others the League (NHL Operations) does it. So when he does pick Osgood, he will be going to the insane asylum because no one will have a clue why he is naming all stars, and then when he snubs Pronger he will be committed because why would he snub one of the top 5 d-men in the game. Listen I hate the guy as much any other fan that apparently is not voting for him, but he will be on the team.

But I thought he was an "Elite" player. No, you're wrong. Babcock will put him on the team and then we can see Sammy in the "most accurate shooter" contest.
