An idea to boost Sammys trade value

Everytime the wings are up in the last couple minutes doubleshift sammy and give him easy chances for empty netters. even if he jsut gets like 3 it could make his goal production look just a little bit more respactable and since hes an "elite defensive player" babcock won't face to much oppostion of playing him.

Send him out with pavel and z so they can feather him passes.

if he gets say 5 more goals he may save us a late draft pick lol.

i like the idea, but i have a feeling that most GM's actually watch the games, not just the stats sheets ... now if we could convince sammy and hank to swap jerseys for a while then maybe we could inflate sammy's trade value and lower hank's worth so we can re-sign him longterm for less $ ...

contempt is such a strong word, i usually save that for things i take seriously ... i don't think sammy's bad, i just don't think he's a top 6 forward ... if he were on the 3rd or 4th line i'd have no problem with him, he's big, plays pretty solid defense, will mix it up, and can contribute offensively ... he's just not in the same league as our other top 6 guys, especially when it comes to the puck possession ... he's good at mucking for the puck, i'll give him that, but too many blind passes, turnovers, and cringe-worthy attempted spin-o-ramas just kill the momentum ... and he doesn't have much of a shot - his shooting percentage is the lowest of all of our top forwards, less than half of the next closest one ... if he would accept a 3rd or 4th line role i'd be happy to keep him around, but i don't think he'll do that happily ...

no, i don't think he'll be going anywhere either ... UNLESS ... if babs decides he's not top-6 material and sammy won't be happy playing on 3rd or 4th i could see them maybe making a move ... maybe i'm wrong, but i thought at some point last season babs dropped sammy to 3rd or 4th line and cut his playing time and sammy was upset about it ... does anyone else remember this, or did i make it up?

I could see Sammy being bumped to 3rd line. I think Cleary has earned a top six spot. So with Homer coming back who gets bumped? I could see it being Sammy. The lines could look something like this.

Franzen Draper Sammy

Kopecky Ellis Drake / Downie

Doubtfull, Montreal could easily get a young guy or a draft pick for Ryder, which would be mpre useful to them than Sammy

Bertuzzi also was scoring at his expected pace when his back went out ; and not everyone is as anally intelligent as the Boston GM showed on that day. Just because the media has fallen out of favor with Ryders play doesn't mean that Gainey will just give him up; they wouldn't accept our garbage for Ryder, bad stats or not he is still a better player than Sammy, regardless of what some people within this fine site choose to believe. When the Wings come a callin' the price starts going up.......

Samuelsson has (unfairly) become the whipping boy since Lang's departure. Give me a break. The guy makes $1.2 million...not $3.8 like Lang was making. He's big, he's decent offensively, and he's not a liability. Plus, he has a mean streak. For $1.2 million I don't know what you guys are expecting.

I mean, statistically, sure he was 5th on the team in playoff points, but regardless of that, he was one of the worst players. I constantly remember yelling at my TV, "WTF ARE YOU DOING MIKAEL!" Too many giveaways, missed opportunities, lack of hustle, puck hogging, and in relation to puck hogging... TAKING WEAK WRIST SHOTS FROM THE POINT ON THE PP.

For $1.2 million I don't know what you guys are expecting.

I'd rather have someone who costs a bit more and performs accordingly, especially if that guy is going to be given key minutes (i.e. second-line duty, PP time.)

Is there a possible way to keep all of the Sammy bashing to one thread, it is hard the morning after he has a good night to go around looking for all of you eating crow with so many threads.

Oh but that is right, none of you post after he has a good night. Only on nights where he stops a 5+ game point scoring streak and makes a bad pass.

Listen, the guy is a role player and doing his job. Some of you in these threads that berate Sammy were the same people dogging on Flip and Huds in the beginning of the season, have patience.

He makes 1.2mil and plays very well, I would assume (may be a dangerous assumption) that Babs has more hockey knowledge than any one on this board. His job is directly tied to the success of the team, why on earth would he put some one in a vital position like pp point if he didn't think he could do the job. More interestingly to me is that you guys think some one on the team could do better, yet Babs (remember his job is directly tied to the teams success or failure) doesn't use that person for what reason?

This team could win the cup and I guarantee you some or you yahoos (not all of the sammy bashers are yahoos) will be on here bitching that a sweep was too quick and there wasn't enough pims this year, or what ever other reasons one could think of.

Michael Ryder, yes because he is doing so much more than Sammy this year, and that definitely answers the issue on the PP point. Plus those trades were situations where the team was almost 100% certain that the player was not coming back the following year, not just trades because SJ called up the B's and said "Hey we will give you these three for Joe Thornton" and the B's said yes!

LOGIC It is your friend, use it, get to know it, love it even. Just don't love it too much then it gets all sloppy!!

Yeah, but his role is 2nd line and point on the PP... which is most of the problem. Take him off the PP, drop him to the 3rd line, and I have no issues whatsoever with him.

You can't get mad at fans because they want to see a weakness (no matter how glaring to you) improved upon. If we sat around and just started threads about awesome the team, Nick, Dats, Z, Ozzie, (insert hot Wings of choice here), was... this place would get boring fast.

Oh, and don't worry about eating crow... he has those "good" games every few weeks. You won't waste muchg time looking...
