CHEVALDAE 0 Report post Posted January 8, 2008 I found this article on the web. http://www.realgmhockey.com/src_teamarticl...e_team_to_beat/ I found this part interesting, "If every player in the league was an unrestricted free agent and I had the first pick in the draft and my mandate was to compete for the Stanley Cup in one year, hands down my first pick is Nick Lidstrom," stated Red Wings' GM Ken Holland. I think I would have to agree with Holland. There are a few others I would consider. I would also like Crosby because he is fun to watch, but he is not a proven winner. Any coments on who you would take if you could?

OsGOD 3 Report post Posted January 8, 2008 Sergei Fedorov... For obvious reasons... to break his curse
GMRwings1983 8,804 Report post Posted January 8, 2008 I'd also pick Luongo. A goalie is more important than anything else, including coaching, defenseman, forwards, etc. We've seen goalies steal games and playoff series too many times to say otherwise. Rice 42 Report post Posted January 8, 2008 I'd probably take Luongo then Lidstrom. A goalie can carry awful teams (see Hasek and the Sabres).

He's a total *******, thats my main reason for picking him. He isnt as talented as Nicky but he has a physical pressance about him, that makes him that more dangerous. My mom told me that during the playoffs pronger had a minor heart attack when Stevie hit him in the chest with a slap shot...I think you know where I'm going with this When am I gonna be on the bloody third line? BeeRYCE 2 Report post Posted January 9, 2008 If the mandate was to compete for the cup ONE year, it'd be Luongo. If it was to build a franchise for years to come, it'd be Crosby.

You don't win without quality goaltending. Crosby is a great player, but he will never win a Cup if the Pens don't get a quality tender.

Maybe as temporary as they come, but can't complain with Ty Conklin right now. Also, Fleury hasn't had a sniff of the elite status yet, but it's very likely that down the road, he will do more.
