WingNutt 12 Report post Posted January 9, 2008 (edited) This sucks, I was looking forward to him going again, Roberto is the man. if not then yeah Ozzie should go, matter of fact, Anyone except Kipper it better not be Kipper. so tired of his overrated-ass and I actually think Pascal Leclaire deserves to go as well. The guy has been playing great this year just as Ozzie. Edited January 9, 2008 by WingNutt

puckloo39 5,686 Report post Posted January 9, 2008 (edited) I assume it would default to LeClaire, if the fan vote counts for anything. edit: good for Luongo, put your family and your own well-being before the PR gig. Quadnational 3 Report post Posted January 9, 2008 (edited) But teams can have up to 6 players in the All Star, right? C'Mon, NHL, just look at the stats: Chris Osgood DET GAA 1.68 SV% .932 S0 2 Roberto Luongo VAN GAA 1.96 SV% .930 SO 6 Pascal Leclaire CLB GAA 1.97 SV% .928 SO 7 GO OZZIE!!! :colorbounce: Well, if Leclaire is elected but can't make it..... GUESS WHO'S NEXT... Western Conference Goaltenders Roberto Luongo Vancouver 263,221 Pascal Leclaire Columbus 180,381 Dominik Hasek Detroit 119,465 J-S Giguere Anaheim 102,051 Miikka Kiprusoff Calgary 84,416 Niklas Backstrom Minnesota 79,727 Evgeni Nabokov San Jose 58,434 Nikolai Khabibulin Chicago 53,217 Marty Turco Dallas 47,680 Edited January 9, 2008 by Quadnational

toby91_ca 620 Report post Posted January 9, 2008 Does it really matter who the starter is? Really? I think Leclaire will take that spot as he was 2nd in voting and Osgood will be there to play either the 2nd or 3rd period. Why does anyone really care who is starting the game? Being selected to the all star team itself means a little bit, but not much, being selected as the starter pretty much means absolutely nothing.

Fans only decide the starters. Nothing more. The goalies without Luongo in the west should be NABOKOV KIPPRUSOFF AND..... OSGOOD
Guest Jeremy88 Report post Posted January 9, 2008 I honestly wouldn't mind seeing Hasek in net if Leclaire passes it up. Hasek is performing excellent as of late, his last 2 games he had 2 shutouts, and he's performing how a starter should.

OSGOOD Yes, fans only decide the starters and since we currently don't have a starter, then I would think the #2 vote getter would be the next choice. Also, no way should Kipper and his 2.83 GAA, .896 sv% get in over Leclaire and his 1.97 GAA, .928 sv%.
toby91_ca 620 Report post Posted January 9, 2008 OMGNESS GRACIOUS! I like Roberto, but does that mean Ozzie is for sure in now? I mean he has to be. Right? Am I in bizzaro world?? Am I the only one that thought Ozzie would be one of the remaining 2 selected and whether Luongo goes or not is meaningless, Ozzie would have been there anyway? Whether he starts or not (which I am not sure about, but would think that position now lands with Leclaire) is meaningless. I can guarantee you Osgood doesn't care if he is the starter. I'm sure he cares about being selected, but not about starting. He'll be there regardless.

No, I always thought he would make it, but everyone's been so negative about it because of Dats, Lids, and Hank being in it already. But yeah Ozzie deserves to go. He has to! May have been a problem when they tried to represent every team, but not now. 4 guys there isn't a big deal.
puckloo39 5,686 Report post Posted January 9, 2008 (edited) Fans only decide the starters. Nothing more. The goalies without Luongo in the west should be NABOKOV KIPPRUSOFF AND..... OSGOOD My point was that the fans voted for LeClaire as second place. Since Luongo opted out as starter, I assume the guy voted in by fans would be LeClaire, whose vote total makes him next in line. But I don't know the rules for this eventuality. I'm not sure stats and numbers have a whole lot to do with reserve selections, or at least it didn't seem to matter last year in Dallas. Ozzie certainly has the numbers to vie for a spot, no question, if that is a decider factor. I guess all will be revealed tomorrow, when they name the rest of the roster, if not before then. If anything, Leclaire has a better shot at getting in over Osgood than Kipper. Goalies might be Nabokov, Kipper and Leclaire.

Goalies might be Nabokov, Kipper and Leclaire. oh, OK. So ASG voting only counts for starter in the case of the first place winner, and rest of the vote totals are meaningless, in terms of "who's next." Not that I really care in this case, but I didn't know that.
HockeyCrazy3033 168 Report post Posted January 9, 2008 I don't think it's fair if they just opt to who's was voted 2nd most. It's about who was voted #1 and with Roberto dropping out they should just go with the three goaltenders that deserve to be in the game and have played the best this season. That being Leclaire, Nabakov, and Osgood. Kipper has no business being mixed in with them this season.
GMRwings1983 8,804 Report post Posted January 9, 2008 Shutouts is all anyone seems to care about anymore, so Leclaire will probably get picked. Also, I bet you any of the players selected to the game could have opted out and gone somewhere with their families. I don't think that gives Luongo an excuse to miss the game, especially since so many people voted for him.

So ASG voting only counts for starter in the case of the first place winner, and rest of the vote totals are meaningless, in terms of "who's next." Yep! Look at 2007 when Vancouver made a campaign to get Rory Fitzpatrick in at the ASG. He finished 3rd in voting behind Scott Niedermayer and Nick Lidstrom. He was not selected to the ASG despite him finishing 3rd in defenseman voting.

I don't think that gives Luongo an excuse to miss the game, especially since so many people voted for him. Get yourself informed. Luongo withdraws from NHL All-Star Game CanWest News Service Published: Wednesday, January 09, 2008 VANCOUVER - Vancouver Canuck goalie Roberto Luongo today withdrew from the National Hockey League's All-Star Game Jan. 27 in Atlanta due to his wife's pregnancy. Announced Tuesday as the Western Conference starter, Luongo revealed his decision following the Canucks' practice today at GM Place. His wife Gina is expecting their first child in April and the pregnancy is being called "delicate." Gina has spent most of the season with her family in south Florida and Luongo will join her for the five-day All-Star break.
GMRwings1983 8,804 Report post Posted January 9, 2008 I was looking forward in seeing Bobby Lou, but good move on his part to be with his family on a meaningless weekend IMO As I posted above, every player if they felt like it, could take the ASG off to spend time with their family. That doesn't give him an excuse to abstain from the game. He's not the only player with a family. It's a big game for the league, and a good opportunity to market its stars. I'm pretty sure Luongo is more of a marketable star than Osgood or Leclaire.
