You want a positive from this game, even when we play like absolute and total s***, we can still score 2 goals against the best team in the East.

Yeah, I guess I hadn't looked at it that way...we were a couple minutes away from coming away with a point. No shame in that. Well, some shame in the first 50 minutes, but still... :P

I won't say I'm happy the Wings lost, but wakeup calls like this are what the team (and organization at large) needs more than anything else -- assuming they take them as wakeup calls, that is.

I've said it once and I'll probably say it a thousand times more: regular season dominance means jack. For the past 10+ years the Wings have shown a knack for failure on the big-stage when the stakes are high and wins and losses actually mean something. Unless changes are made to this roster, we're in for another postseason heartbreak, guaranteed.

Holland had better have a top-4 blueliner and/or a top-6 goal-scoring winger lined up come deadline month.

I didn't get to see the game tonight.

Did the Wings really play like crap? Or was it a case of a really good team making their opponent look bad?

They didnt play bad. If anyone did, it was hasek with the easy goals were used to. But yea im not gonna blame the game on him cuz thats not fair to him , but he shouldnt of let the last goal in i thought. I do think that detroit needs to make a move for someone at the deadline tho they need more attack.

Yeah I saw the highlights and that third one was from a really poor angle.

It's hard to tell exactly what happened from the replay though. Sometimes the puck just has eyes.

Hasek was the reason we were not embarassed tonight

agreed. hasek played lights out tonight. puck had eyes on the third goal, must of went through about 3 bodies not including hasek. can't blame this one on him. came out flat first two periods and started to settle down the final ten minutes of the game. unfortunately you can expect to win a game when you only play ten minutes of a sixty minute competition. penalty to "perfect nick" of all ppl put us in a tough spot late in the game. wasn't so much a superior team that beat us tonight. they came to play from the drop of the puck, we showed up a little too late for this one. congrats to them.

It looked like Hasek was screened and didn't see the shot. At least that's what I got from it.

IMO, the game was actually pretty even. I don't even think the Wings looked bad, it's just we are so used to watching the Wings dispatch inferior competition this year that we forgot what it looks like when a team plays on the same level as the Wings. Ottawa is a formidable opponent.

The Wings weren't as good for the first two periods, then for 15 minutes they played like they normally do and the Wings almost won. Bit of a wake up call for the Wings, no big deal.

they need some more grit...seemed to me as if the Sens were outhitting them by a wide margin tonight...I hate losing, but they aren't going to win every single one...they'll be fine down the stretch

The hits were 25 to 25 today. That wasn't a problem. Team movement was not there and and their passing was off a few crucial inches too often. The teamis in another slump, I think. Fortunately, their slumps were all very short ones this year. In a couple of games they will be back to normal.

Giveaways were 14 to 10 and missed shots were 13 to 8 in Ottawa's favor. The Sens were just a sharper team tonight. I wouldn't be surprised if Zetterberg wasn't the only Wing with a flu.

Khm, they did win 3 Cups in the last 11 (is that =10+? :P ) years. Lets not overreact here.

I have to completely agree, I thought he was screened too. He probably should have been down instead of standing up but thats easy for me to say as a fan.

That being said though, they didn't play a bad game. I definitely feel they could have played better but I'm sure they're okay with their effort. They lost to a good team and lost a non conference game, so no worries there. But I do agree with everyone who says we need another top 6 forward, we can't rely on Z and Dats in the last 2 minutes to perform miracles every time.

that's only like... a little under 30 percent. perfection required. :P power forward would be nice, i'm sure several other teams are saying the same thing. with that said, i don't think it's necessary.

You know how I am about everything, but fair is fair and Dom was screened. He played really well, if not for him it would of been much worse.

You cant blame Hasek for the loss. The wings looked confused at times and lost while the sens where skating circles around them. Especially in the first. And like other people said before you can tell that with lidstrom in the sin bin Versus a team like the sens you can not help but to have a bad feeling. And I dont even think hasek saw that last goal when it was shot. So bad loss for the wings but it wont impact them alot I can see them bouncing back next game VS the thrashers at home. And 2 bad about heatly.

game was not haseks fault, he kept us in the game. we gave up too many odd man rushes and breakaways.

the reason i really didnt like the game was Ottawa played the exact same style we perfected, but did it while being very agressive and hit anything in white. which really threw us off our game

It was, actually.

The hit numbers were equal, but the Sens were definitely getting more quality for their buck. Our guys didn't even initiate to begin so their checks were basically "returning the favor" - Ottawa definitely outplayed us on the body.

I had to miss the game because my band played last night. I was pretty bummed I wasn't going to be able to see it, but it sounds like I didn't miss much. Surprised the Wings didn't come out hard against Ottawa.

I was only able to see 1st period (which ended 1:40 in the night anyway)

and Wings looked pretty lousy. they didn't play their A game - if you compare

this game and i.e. recent Avs game that'd be two completely different teams.

now Sens seem to have been much better - more focused and playing with

more heart. they certainly deserved to win this game. I'm not sure if this

is the best they can do but they certainly looked sharp.

what is the reason why Wings didn't show up? I don't know. I think this all

comes down to coach (and team management) and I never ever considered

Babcock to be a guy who gives s*** about media hyped games. he's focused

on entire season and playoffs rather than making ppl on tv "buy" his Wings.

you have to give credit to Sens who played a good game and took 2 points

from this game. but if their fans think this makes Sens better than Wings or

if those fans claim Wings would not get 70pts in East (as some ppl on TSN

say)... you really need some reality check. if Wings brought their A game

to Ottawa those Sens would not necessarily have won.

Just watching the highlights over the internet this morning, it definately looked like Ottawa were outhitting us big style - both the frequency and intensity of the hits. Just further reinforces my belief that we need another physical forward (not an enforcer, just a guy that can hit, and can play a bit).
