ruarc' 2 Report post Posted January 13, 2008 From what I've heard Jacob's had a rough go of it thus far this year. What's the deal? I'm looking to those who actually take in the GR games. What are your accounts of the youngster? Any insight would be appreciated.
Grittzkey 1 Report post Posted January 13, 2008 His stats pretty much show you what your looking for.
ruarc' 2 Report post Posted January 13, 2008 (edited) I've looked, believe me I've looked at his stats. That's why I've posted this question; furthermore,I strongly feel stats can be misleading at times. Stats by the way; 2-6-8 -20. Negative 20! How is this possible? Does he see a lot of kill time? Who does he pair with a majority of the game? Are there other factors in play here? Simply...what's the deal!? Kid was highly touted coming in from Kitchner, hell he almost made the team out of camp last year. Where's he stand and what are your impressions of him as a player? That Grittz is what I'm trying to get at here. I rarely make a Griffs game and am hoping someone who does can enlighten me on this "regression" of sorts. Guess I'm looking for an explanation for these numbers. Edited January 13, 2008 by ruarc'

Guess I'm looking for an explanation for these numbers. Well, penalty kill time wouldn't affect the plus/minus. I don't see Griffins games either. But when the stats are as bad as they are, I think they transcend any issues like who he's paired with or anything. The only explanation I can see is that he's having a pretty rough time adjusting to the professional game.

I don't think those things matter as much. Listen, we all want him to pull through and replace Rafalski eventually, with Kronvall replacing Lidstrom, Lebda replacing Chelios, etc., but it doesn't always work out perfectly. Still, I say give the kid some time to get used to it. We're not in any hurry to get prospects up to the NHL. Also, I think killing penalties does affect +/-, where you get a minus if you're killing, but not a plus if you score. Rules may have changed though.
Coyote0106 2 Report post Posted January 13, 2008 I think Kindl has improved a TON since he started this year. He was slow, and out of place all the time. He's being more "sound" defensively. He needs to figure out how to shoot on the PP, but that comes with experience I guess. This team is just not good, so the players stats are going to be worse. Look at Meech. He's played in like 4 or 5 games for us since being sent down, and last I checked he was a negative 5 or so. Kindl, Quincey, and Ericcsson are all improving greatly in the last month or more of the season. Shame the team can't score.
ruarc' 2 Report post Posted January 13, 2008 (edited) Good to hear, hopefully the boys are starting to turn things around down on the farm. Kind of surprised to hear Meech is around that. I think we all thought scoring would be a little thin in GR this year (alot of new faces after all), but to this extent? Hate to look past this year, however it sounds like there might be a solid influx of scoring potential next season. Here's to knocking on wood. Keep us updated. Thanks for the post. Echolalia 2,961 Report post Posted January 13, 2008 aren't the griffins sucking pretty bad right now as a whole?
Coyote0106 2 Report post Posted January 13, 2008 aren't the griffins sucking pretty bad right now as a whole? Our offense isn't scoring, which doesn't get you far. We had two four goal games back to back, and we lost them both. We really can't score though, and those games aren't characteristic. Our defense is improving, but we have way to many turnovers. The first pass isn't connecting, which leads to turnovers, and the opposition is able to beat the goalie for a quick one. Toughness is another HUGE concern. This is the BIGGEST team we've had in a while, and yet we're playing like a bunch of pansies. We are being outhit almost every night. The coach is scratching Keefe (and now Clark) in situations where you need to have a tough guy in the line up. With the news of Ference being done for the year (he needs surgery on his wrist) our team toughness is going to drop like crazy. Last game Quincey and Tardiff had to be the guys defending us...and if you know them, that is NOT their role. This team just really needs to develop some sort of scoring touch (and maybe an actual Captain, instead of this revolving C stuff). As we are playing now, we'll be on the outside looking in come playoff time. It's time to kick out Stothers, and just let Paek do the head coach work until next year. ruarc' 2 Report post Posted January 14, 2008 found this over at Red Wings Central and thought it might be a good read. enjoy. Kindl Article taken from Red Wings Central. RWC REPORT: Twenty below, Kindl struggles By Matthew Wuest - RedWingsCentral.com / January 14, 2008 A total of 917 players have skated in the American Hockey League this season. Exactly 913 of them have better plus-minus ratings than Jakub Kindl. The first-round pick of the Detroit Red Wings and Grand Rapids Griffins rookie defenseman has a minus-20 this season, just ahead of Dave Schneider and Marc-Andre Gragnani (minus-21) and Dan Jancevski (minus-25). The next lowest Griffins player, Garrett Stafford, is only a minus-8, while career minor-league blueliner Tom Galvin rates No. 1 on the club with a plus-10. It's Kindl's first year out of the Ontario Hockey League, where he was a dominant defenseman with the Kitchener Rangers for three seasons. "It is definitely different hockey,†Kindl told the Kitchener-Waterloo Record earlier this month. "Everything is happening so quickly. If you make a mistake in junior it's not going to cost you anything, but if you make mistakes here there are better players who can score. It's hard, especially when it's your first year.†Kindl was selected 19th overall in the 2005 draft, the highest Red Wings pick in 14 years (Martin Lapointe, 10th overall in the 1991 draft). The Red Wings tout him as a top-four defenseman and power-play quarterback who plays his best with good players, but turnovers and defensive-zone lapses have been his Achilles' heel during his first season in the professional ranks. He has contributed two goals and six assists in 36 games.
Coyote0106 2 Report post Posted January 15, 2008 found this over at Red Wings Central and thought it might be a good read. enjoy. Kindl Article taken from Red Wings Central. Yea, I agree with that article. His turnovers just cost him. It's been that way for the whole team.

Coyote0106 2 Report post Posted January 15, 2008 Good article, I think Kindl should be playing with Chelios to learn new stuff. Why not try him for few games. You MUST mean send Chelios down to play with him. I can't believe you'd really think to send him UP to play with Chelios if you read that article. Why would we send him up if he is a liability in GR? You think he'd magically be better in Detroit because of Chelios?

Why would we send him up if he is a liability in GR? You think he'd magically be better in Detroit because of Chelios? No. But since we will be sure to go to playoffs, why not play him? If he played with Cheli, he would get so much experience, and yes, he would make mistakes, and he would learn from it. Even if his mistakes would cost us game or two, it would be worth it imho. Same with Ericsson though.
Coyote0106 2 Report post Posted January 16, 2008 No. But since we will be sure to go to playoffs, why not play him? If he played with Cheli, he would get so much experience, and yes, he would make mistakes, and he would learn from it. Even if his mistakes would cost us game or two, it would be worth it imho. Same with Ericsson though. Ericsson is much closer to being ready for NHL experience than Kindl. I wouldn't even put Kindl at a top 4 d-man on the Griffs right now. He has potential, but he has to learn the pro game before we can risk him in the NHL. Even with the wings record.
Reds4Life 51 Report post Posted January 16, 2008 I don't know, Kindl had outstanding last season, but is not playing so well this season, maybe he nees more time to get used to new league. Anyways, one or two games against weak teams can't hurt. If not him, then I really hope to see Ericsson playing few games this year.
datsyukian_deke 0 Report post Posted January 17, 2008 well he scored a goal and ended up a +1 for last nights game, a 4-3 SO win for the griffs... maybe he can turn things around for the 2nd half

ruarc' 2 Report post Posted January 24, 2008 Per Red Wings Central... It was a good week for defenseman Jakub Kindl (Grand Rapids, American Hockey League) in what has been an up-and-down rookie season. Kindl had a goal, two assists and a plus-3 rating in three games. Looks like the "Good News" front continues out of GR.
