So with people talking about all the bad trades we've made, how come no one talks about this one??? Never mind he's played less then half the games this year and is now out six weeks with a hernia. So great trade KH. This way our young guys are getting a chance to play. Calder played ok while he was here and when he left it opened up spots for our young guys.

fact remains Williams just wasn't getting it done after that Torres hit last year...

he was a waste of a roster spot, so i don't really care that Calder didn't work out.

No one's talking about that anymore cause its of no significance and also wasnt a good trade. Are you calling that a great trade sarcastically? Im confused. Great trades have strong value as the end result. Wasnt bad either, it turned out to be a wash for the Wings. Calder did absolutely nothing in the playoffs, but it was time for Williams to go anyways. The dman the Flyers got i dont really know anything about, other than he does play on their big club. So if you're going to make an argument as to who won that trade, it would be one of those two teams and not the Wings.

Agreed. He wasn't evolving and didn't contribute enough to warrant a lot of ice time. Better that he left to seek a new and conducive environment.

Ken Holland could have traded Jason Williams for a pack of Double Mint gum and it would have made the Wings a better team.

Williams made the Wings worse just by being on the ice between his absolute FEAR of being hit, countless turnovers (he rivaled Lang in that department), his shaky play on the point for the power play and being another runt-sized player on a team full of them.

While he did have some skill when compared to Datsyuk, Zetterberg, Filppulaand Hudler who are for all inetents and purposes the same size player, Williams was BY FAR the worst of the five.

He is an average at best, and redundant player on a team that is too good to keep him around.

It got us out of his contract a year earlier than otherwise, and thereby gave the team more playing room to go after guys like Rafalski. Great trade for what it was designed for - allowing the youth to get more icetime, thickening the bottom six with grit, and giving additional financial flexibility.

Yeah, thats how i view it. A guy who wasnt worth much for another guy that didnt do anything when it mattered, a total wash. The simple fact they found a taker certainly doesnt make it a great trade. Just offsetting the mistake of re-signing him is all it did in reality.
