Lou_Siffer 1 Report post Posted January 21, 2008 God I hate Mike Goldberg...I was overjoyed when he left hockey, only to see him resurface in the UFC where he somehow manages to be even lamer than before. I like the Ken/Mickey duo, if they would cut back on the penalty-related bitching and not get overexcited about routine fights I'd have no complaints. Murphy was highly uninteresting at first but he's gotten much better, definitely getting the feel of broadcasting. The fact that Goldberg's voice will be forever linked to the Avs/Wings brawl is something i cant stand.
TheWestWing 71 Report post Posted January 21, 2008 (edited) My suggestion... buy NHL Centre Ice for about $169 and then you will appreciate just how good we have it with ken and mickey Be careful what you ask for - watch Strader and Panger - Strader is great on play-by-play and Panger's enthusiasm couldn't be more sincere (and he lives in the present). Makes watching Ken and GlutenBoy almost as bad as Terry Crispy et al on NSH. Speaking of which....are they cut the price in half for that or what? I mean seriously, i refuse to pay 169 for only half the year just based on the principle of the matter! Um, not half from what I read but down to 119 from 169 after 1/28/08. Edit: Actually, when we went to the DET-PHX game back in Dec., I wanted to do a sign saying Trade Panger for Redmond, but the fair maiden nixed that one. Hey Stevie, we know you lurk - bring ur bud over if you can get him off the links in Scottsdale..... Edited January 21, 2008 by TheWestWing

Strader and Redmond were a force to be reckoned with. But i will accept Kenny as a viable replacement
GMRwings1983 8,804 Report post Posted January 21, 2008 If you've ever heard the Blues, divealanche, Predators, or Blue Jakets announcers, you won't ever rag on Ken Daniels again.
2probert4 8 Report post Posted January 21, 2008 ahh you have to remember they all do that. did you watch/listen to the game last night with the sharks announcers? They did the same thing when we took back the lead after the tie. They brought up some stat from last year. And how many times did we need to hear about doms dive? really. just listen and they all do it. its the hommer coming out which they get paid to do. Who is the bald dude in their booth? He seems to know everything about the obvious. Did he ever play hockey?

Lidsyukerberg 0 Report post Posted January 21, 2008 (edited) Here's a view from a different perspective: I personally like Ken, and love the Mickey-isms, and I even like Murph and what he has been adding to the conversation (I even like his little segments watching the telestrator when he let's us know how the D-man blew the play). But I'll admit that I don't really listen to them all that much because I am too engrossed in the game so I miss a lot of the things Ken says (I do like the stats sometimes though). Anyway, back to my point, my wife is legally blind and can't see the game at all. She loves Ken and Mickey, and is always exclaiming what a great job Ken does at the play by play. Sure he throws in stats, but he always seems to keep up with the play. It is probably hard to realize it while we are watching because we pay attention in a different way, but take it from a blind lady, Ken is the best play by play man in the league. He really keeps her in the game. On a side note however, it does kind of bug me the way always puts the name after the action. "He passes up the center to Cleary does Chelios." That's kind of weird. Why don't you tell me who you're talking about first, then tell me what he did. "Chelios passes up the center to Cleary." See it's not that hard. But it's a small price to pay, he's great. I mean he does a great job considering "It's no place for a nervous person." - Mick edit: On a side note, I think the team is playing a trick on him. Has anybody else noticed that he pronounces Kopecky as Kopetsky? I wondered why he does that and then one day he said he was told that Kopecky likes it pronounced Kopetsky. However, whenever you hear any of the players or Babcock talk about Kopecky, they pronounce it Kopecky, not Kopetsky. I just thought it was funny. Yemack 1 Report post Posted January 22, 2008 I'm using Centre Ice to watch Wings and whenever I get Ken and Mickey that is my lucky day. They are so much better than the rest, and sound very professional. I would take them over Strader and Pang anyday. I thought Thorne and Clement was pretty good too. I mentioned the Blues guy (John Kelly) earlier. His ridiculous "Thank you Thank you Thank you!" call after the Blues score is the most idiotic crap I've ever heard. Kp-Wings 3 Report post Posted January 22, 2008 Wasn't he the same idiot who used to announce for the divealanche? Yeah, he did work for them as well. I remember seeing a video clip of the Wings - Av's brawl with his annoying voice in the background. His dad was a great broadcaster... I don't how that talent managed to skip a generation in his case though.

"He passes up the center to Cleary does Chelios." That's kind of weird. Why don't you tell me who you're talking about first, then tell me what he did. "Chelios passes up the center to Cleary." See it's not that hard. i think maybe he does that because he sees someone makes a pass and decides to announce the pass when he sees it rather than waiting to see the number and then calling it. *shrug* i noticed that too, but it doesn't bother me. since i'm such a ***** when it comes to talking like those around me, i've noticed myself starting to do that in real life sometimes, which is kind of awkward. "She passes me the salt shaker, does my girlfriend." but, yeah, i love ken. sure he's a homer, but they pay him to keep people watching the game. so if the wings go down by five and he has some stat about one time ten years ago when the wings scored six goals in the third period then he's going to say it, just to give people some shred of hope. plus, with all the obscure stats like that, he's probably not saying them off the top of his head -- somebody sitting at a computer is feeding them to the broadcast booth, i'd guess. tangent: the thing that bugs me is that vs. announcer, not emmerick, but the other pxp guy, who tried to make everything as poetic as possible, or use as many different words for the same thing as he possibly can. "save" becomes "squeezed," "vacuumed," "gobbled up," "frozen," "captured;" "pass" becomes "shoveled," "flipped," "shuffled," "directed," "tossed along," etc. etc. i mean, i guess there's something to be said for not just saying "save" "save" "save" all the time, but vacuumed? really? hasek has never vacuumed a damn thing in his life, i mean let's be honest. edit: grammer.
