Lidstrom willing to make a call to Sundin

Alfredsson knows the Sens aren't alone in their desire for Sundin. Nik Lidstrom said he'd be willing to make a call to Sundin to get him to come to Detroit and Vancouver's Henrik Sedin wouldn't mind if Sundin moved to the West Coast.

"He could help a lot of teams with his style of play and what he brings to the Leafs every day," said Lidstrom, the Wings captain. "I don't know what's going to happen. I know Mats says he wants to stay in Toronto, but he could be an impact player for a lot of teams."

I highly doubt Sundin is going anywhere. But if he does Toronto is going to want A LOT just because they know they can get it.It's kind of like a "Everything is for sale" thing.

well, Sundin, if he will be traded, will be only rental player. So your comparsion Sundin - Ovechkin is silly.

Is that because of salary cap?

Because if Mats does leave TO, he will NOT be returning, that can be guaranteed and has been mentioned by several analysts.

If we can get Mats to fit under Cap for next year, I would definitely not mind giving up a little more to get him and secure our playoff run.

Mats loves TO, his family is there and so forth and he doesn't want to move. That said, if he has enough pressure from Cliff to leave, he won't be back.

try telling the leafs that.. the price will be Filppula and a first. end of story... Hudler is not on any teams wish list i can guarantee that..

Yeah,...the window for getting the highest return on Hudler has definitely past now. When he was on his tear a while back it was possible he couldve went instead of Flip...but not now.

Anything more than draft picks and a prospect is too much!! The Wings better not trade away our young roster talent!! I Don't want this team to tank in a year because we want to win a Championship now! We were very close last season with the guys we have, there is no reason to trade them away for a loan!! :ranting:

We are tanking now; don't you remember all the posts from last summer about our lack of scoring and grit?

I don't think Sundin will bring the grit everyone has been wanting, I would rather keep our core in tact and get someone like Mcratton or neil

That'll be the day. I've preached that before, but Holland will never take that route. I honestly don't expect any big acquisitions. Hopefully Holland won't do anything stupid like he's done in past years.

Not a single one of our young players is so good that losing him would force this team to tank. If it came down to Hudler, a prospect and a pick, I'd pull the trigger in a heartbeat, as a 36-year-old Sundin is better than Hudler will ever be. Besides, this organization isn't about putting the future ahead of the present -- Holland knows as well as anyone else that this team is in the business of making a big push every season, and that picking up Sundin (for the right price) is just the kind of deal you make as a GM if you're really serious about going for the Cup and not deferring because "Aw shucks, Jiri just needs a chance!"

Personally, I'd rather Holland focus on Hossa. But Sundin (again, at the right price) would be an absolutely phenomenal pickup.

...Sundin would be a plus, for sure. Hudler alone would not get him. Which prospects are you willing to give up in order to rent Sundin? Lord knows Kenny is NOT going to be spending a helluva lot this off season, he has to save for 2009 when Zetterberg is a UFA...

...then again, maybe he'll take less to stay here! :P (funny how we always think UFA's love Detroit so much that they'd take less to come here...)

...which roster players would have to be moved? Hudler for sure, Sammy maybe. But, which prospect(s) would get us Sundin? Would any team be interested in Grigorenko's rights? Doubt it. Quincey is from Kitchner, not too far from Toronto. Is Jimmy Howard EVER gonna make the club or should we deal him? Rumor has it the Wings are gonna be shopping for big name Goaler this off season (if Dom retires(which I hopr he does.)) So, lets say they know they are gonna make a pitch for a Kolzig, do they deal Howard to try to get Sundin or Hossa?

...personally any GM that mentions Filpulla should be slapped! Kopecky I don't feel either way about, he can be dealt. Maybe a team is interested in Matt Ellis, would he and Hudler get us Sundin? Or is that too much? Holland will make the deal if it's good. Pav and Hank & FLip (if he isn't traded) are gonna be around for a long time, there are our top 3 centers. Does Oulahen, McGrath or Helm actually have a chance of making this club before it's too late? Emmerton is going to be our grinding center once Draper retires, and Drapes s signed through 2011, so when does Emmerton get his chance?

...offer Toronto Jiri Hudler, Joakim Andersson and 2 picks. That's it, done deal... Really what do we lose? Hudler? He's gonna lose his minutes to Brunstrom...

I really don't know the Leafs' situation too intimately, but I imagine they'd have an interest in Kindl. If the rumors about Blake's asking price (roster player + prospect + pick) are correct, they'll probably be asking for something along the lines of Fort Knox + The Second Coming of Jesus Christ + The Holy Grail. (So...something like Flip/Kronwall + Kindl + A pick or two.) Unless, of course, Mats has some sort of say (which I assume he would) and expresses a desire to not screw over potential resting places before he even gets there. He's a classy guy, so that's possible.

...wow, that's steep! All three of the guys you mentioned (not Jesus) are all way to valuable to our system. Kindl will come up next season as our 7th D-Man, unless Chelios retires, then he'll round out the top 6. Kronner is finally playing great and, well, Flip is just as important to this teams future as Pav and Zetts. Soon Emmerton will be our #4 grinding centerman and our centers will be set for the next 10 years, sorta like when we had Yzerman/Fedorov/Larionov & Draper for all the years in a row...

...I'm telling ya, Hudler - Joakim Andersson - 2 picks gets us Sundin. Even if he is just a rental, it'll really only cost us Hudler and he is gonna be on the losing end of the Brunnstrom deal anyhow...

...I'd give up Quincey and a pick for Blake, that's it...

Would you rather win the Stanley Cup this year and be great or just be very good for the next couple years without a Stanley Cup?

I for one would rather have the Stanley Cup. We need something to get us over that final hump... You have to take risks some time for it to pay off.

The kid is not even signed yet. It seems a little foolish to believe that Brunnstrom is guarenteed to take Hudler's minutes.

Whereever he goes, the team will be giving up a first round pick, u can guarantee that. Something more realistic would be Hudler, Andersson, and a 1st.

Personally i'd try Hudler and a 1st, then Hudler, Helm and a 1st.

Why is Sundin so eager to spend the rest of his career in Toronto where he knows he'll never win the Cup? If he goes somewhere as a rental player and doesn't win the Cup, then what is he going to do? Is he going to do this at every trading deadline by just going to and from Toronto? There's just too many loopholes in the system right now.

...worked for Doug Weight didn't it? Traded to Caorlina, WIN! GOes back to St. Louis, now traded to Anaheim, good chance to win, bet he'll re-sign with St. Louis over the summer...
