Trade Deadline Thread

The Kings are asking a roster player, a first-round pick, and a top prospect in exchange for Blake.

Has this been confirmed?

If it's true, the Kings can go f*** themselves. That's just outrageous. Like Agalloch said above, Kenny might as well get off the Blake train altogether and go for someone who would actually be worth breaking the bank for, e.g. Hossa, Sundin.

Then again, Atlanta and Toronto -- hell, any team with high-profile trade bait -- could use Blake's asking price as justification for charging ungodly amounts for their stars.

Thanks, L.A. Thanks a lot.

That's not worth it for the Wings.

f*** the Kings. Do they think this is 1998 or something? Blake is worth s*** at this point in his career.

Honestly, what is LA supposed to say weeks before the deadline? "Yeah we'll take a mediocre prospect and a late pick for Blake". Of course not, as ridiculous as their demands are right now, they know how desperate teams can get and overpay like they do every year. At the very least, they're showing Blake respect saying they believe he's worth that much. Those demands will come back down to earth by deadline time.

Blake Injury Update:

Here is Crawford on Blake: "It's probably very similar to Brad Stuart. Stuart was kind of the same way though his wasn't broken, it was a deep bruise. We kept doing the same thing with Brad in getting it re-X-rayed. We got Rob re-X-rayed a couple times and nothing showed up. It's not uncommon that a couple weeks later something shows up. He told me after the Islanders game that it wasn't getting better, so we got him another MRI and then it showed up. On the positive side, these things are very treatable and usually take two weeks. He should be back when we come up to L.A. hopefully."

There's talk out of LA that Blake has a undisclosed fracture around his ankle. If this was posted elsewhere, I apologize.

The way that everything is looking right now with the asking price for Forsberg and Blake makes me think Holland is going to make a big push to get Hossa here...

Why on earth would he do that, given the price?

Honestly, I think the trade deadline will be a bust this year. Why? Because dumbass Bettman doesn't understand that when the cap is bringing teams into closer contention, the trade deadline needs to be moved LATER, not EARLIER!!!. I really don't understand the motivation for moving the trade deadline even earlier in a system that is meant to encourage closer competition. It makes zero sense.

True, the trade deadline should be moved later. And moreso true, a lot of struggling teams are still in it... stalling trades. I think a big trade or two is needed to spark the rash of deadline trades. Who knows, maybe Selanne and Forsberg's (soon to be) return is already enough? I think the Flyers will be bigtime players at the deadline, maybe even Ottawa if Emery craps out.

What about Janne Niinimaa and Anson Carter? They play in Europe right now so would only cost money right? Two big guys and veteran players. They both have good playoff experience.

Niinimaa is DONE with a big "D". Carter is about as lazy and unmotivated as it gets.

Finally someone with some common sense..LA can tell the media what theyre expecting back. That doesnt mean theyre gonna get it...especially now that 1) Blake may be injured past the deadline and 2) he has a NTC AND only wants to contend for the cup

I'm guessing the Wings will get a guy who is off the radar for the most part. This is not to say they won't get a big name player, but I bet they will be looking for more than a rental this time around.

If the Wings add Blake, I could see them getting a name like Radim Vrbata and Vaclav Prospal, or possibly a guy like Holik or Vyborny if they think they only want some more depth scoring. With the way Holik has played so far this season, I wouldnt mind seeing him on the 3rd/4th line instead of Drake..

Of the longer-term options, for some reason I could see Detroit making a pitch for Cammalleri.

Why would a rebuilding team like L.A. trade a 25-year old player like Cammalleri?

Hes already been rumored to be available at a price and from all accounts that Ive heard, they dont expect him to re-sign with the team after this season, which makes sense given the trouble they had in re-signing him in the first place..I dont think they expect Cammy to be in their future plans.

I wouldnt be surprised to see them trade him for another young player who is similarly re-signed and has a few more years left to be an RFA, unlike Cammy.

I just read on http://www.thefourthperiod.com/news/van080204.html that Foppa's agent will be recieving offers this week. Says Foppa wants a 2-3 yr deal for $5 mil per. Is it just me or is that way to much money for broke foot Forsberg?

Haha. By all means, let another team bite on that contract. I dont care how good Forsberg is, thats way too much cap space tied up in a guy who might not even be healthy when you need him most..

According to the all knowing Eklund. Detroit is interested in Brad Stuart. E-3 LMAO! If it is serious what kind of d-man is he? I would like to see a hard hitting d-man. Is he the guy?

The only way I wouldnt mind seeing Brad Stuart is if we already traded for Marian Hossa and couldnt afford to give up something big for a defenseman. I wouldnt trade more than a 2nd/3rd rounder OR (not both) Derek Meech for Brad Stuart with the way hes played this year..
