Datsyuk Article

Good read!

If he can keep up this conditioning and strength training, I can really see Dats becoming consistent 100 point scorer for the next few years. Pair that with the defensive ability that we know he has, and this guy could potentially be one of if not the best overall players in the game. Of course, Z is always gonna have something to say about that...

Damnit, I love that we have both of those guys!

i remember how much that guy suprised me last playoffs. I never really knew it, but he was in the corners, getting hit (hard) and taking it. My favorite part of it all was he was damn near impossible to knock off the puck. Guys twice his size we taking him on, yet couldnt take him down.

Bigger? Well, he looks the same size to me... :hehe:

I'm impressed with Datsyuk's play this season. He really did a great job carrying the play and the team when Zetterberg when was hurt at various points in the season.

Amen to that my brother! Too many people get caught in the "which is better" thing when having both of them beats anything. Datsyuk has been doing it all and just watch the numbers of anyone on his line - he is making things happen all over the ice. Drat, I think last night was his first game in a while without a point. He was also getting a little feisty with those penalties.

He's definitely improved his strength and conditioning, especially in the lower body. His balance is phenomenal, and he's definitely earning his paycheck.

Did anyone notice Datsyuk put Mikkah Koivu in a headlock after he tried taking exception to Homer being in front of the net?

Not very Lady-Byng-ish is it! :-)

I saw that in the highlights, I really think he is a poster on here and listens to what we say.

Dats needs to be tougher!

Dats needs to get more points!!

Dats needs to not be so Lady Bingish!!

Well I think most people, including myself, wanted to see Dats get a little stronger. If we wasn't going to, it probably would have been better if he was traded.

I'm happy to see Datsyuk hit the weight room. I've thought for a few seasons he needed to bulk up a bit if he wanted to get to the next level as a player.

so your saying you'd still prefer Shane Doan over Pavel??

Pavel will never be a physical player, he has so much talent he don't need it, he leads the league in take-aways, can deke anyone out of their jock, and is quick on his feet and a extremly inteligent player who sees the ice well.

So he really has no need to be a muscle, he can take the puck with his talent no need to smash into the guy and risk personal injury.

I'm not saying a team doesen't need a physical presence just saying your goal scorers and playmakers don't need it.

Noone says these things about Zetterberg and in my opinion is less physical than Pavel is, they both are just so talented.

another good example would be Nick Lidstrom the best Defensman in the league and one of thee best if not the best of all time, and he is not that much of a physical player either, he shuts down people with his talent. same as Pavel and Hank.

The funny part of that is that he is on pace to shatter his single season point mark by ...

Oh wait he is only 9 points ahead of his normal pace.

But he is on pace to set a new high in goals scor... nope he is just on pace to tie his last season's mark.

Oh but for sure his plus minus must be better than it was before right?

Well while yes it would be a career high for him to be +37 (his pace) it would only be so by 1.

Surely he must be on pace to shatter one personal single season record, yes I found it....

SHOTS!

His previous high was 207, he is on pace for 280.

Good thing he hit the weights it really has taken him to that next level!!!

Go Pavs get bulked up dude!!!!

Nah, I think most people who were down on him wanted him to be 6-5 and from Moosejaw. Obviously any player that doesn't keep up on conditioning and aren't trying to continously improve whatever the weaker aspect of their game might be should be traded. Nah, to me he simply suffered from a scapegoat syndrome from basically two sub par post seasons (although he was still doing things well, there just not put on the score sheet, so most don't notice them) while excellent seasons were pushed aside. Cause after all this is "hockey town" and nothing matters to most Wings fans except goals and stanley cups. I've refrained from any "i told you so" and "where you at now" posts, especaily after this past post season and will continue to do so. I get enough enjoyment of watching him let his play do the talking for him, no matter if some fans still continue to undervalue what he brings all around to the team.

I'm sure I'm not the only one who's noticing he's not getting pushed around as much as he used too. I've been impressed seeing him and Zetterberg getting more involved in the forecheck and play in the corners.

We all know in April the games get more physical, so adding weight and getting stronger will help him, and everyone else on the team in the long run.

I've tried to do this as well, but my will power must not be as strong as yours, this thread brought it out in me. I just think its funny how many people change their opinions from night to day. One minute half the forums hates the guy says he is over-rated trade him now, then a season later is is one of the Top 5 favorite players on the forums, I'm not complaining I love the fact that people like him now and see how talented he really is. but fact that half the people that were bashing him now, back-pedal and say NO I never said that I simply said he needed to work on some things.

with that all the way, its good to see all the support Pavel gets now, and is starting to receive some of the much needed credit he deserves. Hopefully I will be able to say the same thing about the other players on the team that get used as a scapegoat.

sorry about the vent everyone, carry on

Physical strength in hockey goes way beyond just being a physical player. I guarantee you that Dats was not hitting the weights harder in some retarded preparation for a gooning match with Chris "closeted homosexual" Pronger. Being in better shape makes you skate stronger, be stronger on the puck, have better balance (all things mentioned in the article). And the more he continues to work out, the better he'll be with all of these things.

I see your point, but The context of what the other poster above was saying was more about being a physical forward.

All the players condition and lift weights, its part of getting in shape staying sharp through the season. I'm just stating that Pavel lifting weights is not because he is trying to be more or need to be more a physical hitting player.

I know what your saying and thanks for pointing out the difference, I agree its always better to have strength training but don't expect Pavel to be slamming people around out their, he will continue to play his game just the same.

O ya, totally agree. I mean, thats just a matter of genetics right? He is not naturally built to play that way. And, know what, I love watching the guy play and I don't want to see him change a damn thing!

Well being more physical means players can take hits better, go to the net without being thrown on thier ass, keep the puck longer, etc..

Why would Datsyuk start smoking guys, and why would anyone suggest it? It's not his game.

Noone suggested him "smoking guys" but that is what people implied by saying he needs to be bulk up more, and my point was, conditioning aside Datsyuk isn't a physical type of player, he is pure talent.

I still say I have to disagree with you, Pavel doesen't get thrown on his ass as it is now, he gets knocked around just like every other Red Wing. I don't know if it would be possible for one to hold on to the puck any longer than Pavel does, he usually has 3 guys all over him and manages to maintain possesion of the puck.
